Development / Allow Strikethroughs in Messages
« on: October 15, 2018, 02:11:56 AM »
As the title says: allow words to be striked through. It adds a fun bit of RP to what are supposed to be hand-written letters.

Dwilight / The End of Ecclesial Sanguoastroism

Hello all,

Suddenly, ESA is without a priest and the religion is crumbling, yet nobody is saying anything about this internally. Any news on this development?

Seems to me like the fringe realms need to refocus themselves. If greater density is required, realms on the outside should either move or refocus their efforts and forget their westernmost regions.

imho

Feature Requests / Re: Expanded Exiling or Outlawing

Exile, as it is right now, is a crappy feature. That's why I'm suggesting we change it.

Coding would be a nightmare with this sort of change. And yes, I'm looking at is as sort of a reverse-rebellion. It's the last straw that a ruler can pull to try an reign in an uncontrollable lord. Use at your own risk...

Feature Requests / Brainstorming: Expanded Exiling or Outlawing
« on: October 27, 2016, 04:36:31 PM »
Dear Devs,

I have been a really good boy this year, and would like an expanded "exile" option for Christmas.

The idea of being exiled in BM is equivalent to the medieval idea of outlawry. Basically, a person is declared an "outlaw" when the King (read: ruler) declares a particular noble to be "no longer protected under the kings peace" or "outside of the law" which mean that any and all actions against that noble is now legal, i.e. looting his estate/regions, attacking their units, even arresting without cause. This is not equivalent to banishment, whereby a noble is permanently removed from a realm and stripped of all titles. Being made a outlaw does not strip a noble of his titles, because he holds them by ancient rite, not by the will and pleasure of the ruler (think more early middle ages).

I would also like it to be adjusted so that if a lord is made an outlaw, all of his vassals are outlawed as well. Ergo, we could have an interesting power dynamic between powerful dukes and their rulers. A duke could be coerced into 'towing the line' of the ruler by his vassals if they are more loyal to the realm than he. However, if a ruler tries to make a power-grab and declare a duke an outlaw, or if a duke has the undying support of his vassals, a ruler would have to think long and hard about declaring him an exile.

As for exiling a noble or a region lord, obviously there is a bit more leeway in favor of the ruler. This will be countered by the approval or disapproval of the realm, which will surely protest loudly if the action was unjust.

Tell me what you think!

Dwilight / The Dwilight Daily has Returned!
« on: October 07, 2016, 03:57:22 PM »
Hey Guys!

I revamped and reopened the Dwilight Daily! It's now the only active newspaper in BM, everyone should pop in and have a look! I am accepting applications for journalists of all types, though they must be from Dwilight and non-Zuma (those guys are weird).

Special thanks to Vita and Calinus for helping me make it look good because my wiki-edit skills are subpar.  8)

Also, does anybody know how to install a view-counter on the page? I need to know what kind of audience I'm getting!

Obviously, my character is now a nudist. I think most others will follow. Everyone should join us in being nudists!

A roleplay was sent out in Ibladesh, granted a 10k boost to the city's population. Unfortunately, the portal unleashed militant nudists that are intent on destroying the vileness that is clothing. This may, or may not, affect our foreign policy...

In Swordfell it looks as if the Monsters situation has calmed down significantly within the past few days. Although we're still getting monsters assaulting our outlying regions, they're not having the devastating effect that they used to have. They tend to be quickly beating by standing militia.

Bronnen may be able to corroborate my story.

I've got news for him....

Does the same apply if a ruler appoints himself to that open position?

I have to agree with Feylonis. I find it odd that the Devs consider utilizing aggressive NPCs a viable solution to forcing realms to go to war.

The Devs do seem to understand that humans are risk-averse and that detracts from the fun of the game. They also seem to understand that character density is the solution to the problem. However, I feel that they are missing the mark by trying to use NPCs to create that density. Human population density is controlled by passive, geographic factors; not aggressive waves of invaders. Historically, when you get external population pressure, the people in the area either die or move somewhere else (i.e. German invasions of Ancient Europe, Hunnic invasions after that, Mongols after that, Indo-Aryans before any of them). Whereas when you limit land as a resource, people will begin to fight over it (i.e. Ancient Mesopotamia and the Levant, Egypt, Scandinavia sort-of, Scotland, etc...). Though land doesn't have to be the only resource in this case.

The problem I see with Dwilight is that the cities are spaced too far apart for anything to be done about it. Dwilight is massive, and there are few reasonable ways to limit people's ability to expand only at the expense of human realms. As I look at the map, only 3 out of 11 realms are trapped in by human realms and, guess what, the only human-human war is between one of those realms and Swordfell. All the other realms don't need to go to war to expand their power base, they just need to kick out a few resident monsters and their problem is solved.

I think the best solution in this case would be to adjust the statistics of the regions so that no single city can support itself with only its surrounding regions. Make it so that an exorbitant amount of food is required to sustain a realm. Then, make it very easy to maintain a region once it is taken. Ergo, no realm will be able to sustain its cities without taking land from every available source, including human realms.

Just some thoughts.

tl;dr from other thread...

Players have no right to complain about this game. It's awesome.
