I think I'm just another fool who thinks this situation is handled poorly like Max, we're both Swordfells.

First of all, MTYL, I just found this thread and sorry if I decided to quit on you. I just read your OOC letter to me in game but it was a little too late for me to reply, 2 letters and 1 notification that Max has been deleted.

Let me just say that from my POV, it seems like the punishment doesn't accomplish what it intended to do. In other games, when you are cheating you get suspended or permanently banned depending on the gravity of the sin. So for discussion sake, let's say Crixus did cheat.

The Strategic Secession
Somehow people in Swordfell has been talking that the secession were planned from the time Astrum we're planning to install a new realm there. If so this has been months before the war but I don't have evidence. Let's just say that this is confirmed as actual strategic secession. The first punishment is a good wakeup call for him and could even be suspended from the game for a week!

The Hoarding of Power
I seriously can't find anywhere in the Wiki where this is written.

And if it's there somewhere:
Why remove him from the positions he was elected on? Are there evidences, that he coerced every Swordfell player into voting him? Why aren't people running against him? Is he threatening them in-game too?

Wouldn't overthrowing him in the game through rebellion and war be more awesome in experience and history stand point? Swordfell is a republic and I don't think Crixus will be there in position if the nobles under him don't want him there. Are there people in the realm dissatisfied with it? Then they aren't doing enough to battle the norm and yet we punish those who work to keep that power in there. To me, if I favor Crixus, it just feels like someone powerplayed and took the opportunity to get what intended all along with the help of a titan decision rather than plotting, scheming, and working with other people.

Repeated Offence
I've also heard that Crixus has been crossing the rules repeatedly already. Then wouldn't it be more sensible to just ban him outright so he can't try to bull!@#$ his way out dragging 5 nobles out of the game/realm with him because of some OOC message?

note: People here can't believe how the nobles of Swordfell live under the rule of Crixus. I play Purrcious of Vix in EC (democracy), Spindel of Fronen (republic). Swordfell's tyrannical environment was a really different way of playing especially knowing all the ruckus Crixus has been putting SA into. In all the games I played, I learned one thing important. Don't expect your fun to be the same fun as the others. I have paused nobles who've been jumping realms before Swordfell, Dwilight needed a war and Crixus was the villain we needed and now he's gone. RIP.

TLDR: I'm confused and disappointed but moving on.

In the end, will Purrcious witness EC turning into a democratic continent achieving Vix's dream...

And then implode with war against allies and each other. Offspring realm devouring their mother realm all in a glorious giant explosion of egos and betrayal?

Purrcious could only dream  ;D

Purrcious heard that people actually liked the debate on TO though.

I wonder why it was changed in the first place. Was it to make heroes die more likely? I mean to be honest, heroes just don't die often :D Maybe more dead heroes would be better. But then again, Hero class itself is pretty underwhelming despite putting your life on the line.

Purrcious couldn't agree more!

Purrcious sacrifice all hard work for a chance to die in the battlefield, Purrcious can't be efficient in commanding horses. Purrcious can't perform civil works or police works. But you know, it's alright because Purrcious knows this before hand but what's disappointing is that your only perks which are Morale boosting by Storytelling and Recruiting anywhere isn't always available and when it is...it isn't even impactful! Heroes needs their stories written and told, else how are Heroes to be known!?

Purrcious would like to see atleast an option "Nearby Regions" not just "Current regions"

Or maybe turn the Letter option to checkboxes instead of a hyperlink to the intended audience?

☐ - To a Religion
☑ - To all your Realm
☑ - Current Region
☐ - To a Guild

If you're trying to add more than a certain percentage of your realm to a message group, to the point that you're hitting the message group size limit, then you really need to be asking yourself, "Why does this need to be a message group? Why am I not just sending these messages to the entire realm? Why am I deliberately and repeatedly excluding a very small number of realmmates from these messages?"

If you can give me a very, very good reason, that is not due to a highly specific weird thing you're trying to do with your realm, but generalizable, I will consider adjusting the message group size limitations.

This only tells us what we need to do when we hit the number and then asks us for a reason.

If you want a Lords only senate message group then create a guild called "Senate of Fronen" in the capital city and get the lords to join it. If you're talking roleplay considerations then surely having a dedicated senate "building" in your capital is even more appropriate than a message group anyway?

But again, in my experience, locking regular knights and nobles out of important realm discussions is a great way to bore them and make them apathetic to the realm.

You can also create lords only referendums if you want to vote on something, or have votes cast publicly within your guild.

This actually tells us what we can do in our current predicament. Thanks!

One Scenario, If you are in a True Democracy government and all the discussion (military and economic) are held realm-wide then you are open to spying (though one can argue that it doesn't exist in this game or in this small playerbase) but then with a huge Message Group you can include the whole realm and gate the newly created accounts (while still having him see the standing orders) for a time until you're convinced he can be brought to the message group. Again, one can argue that this is the inherent weakness of that type of government and can actually be worked-around again with building a guild. Not mentioning the role-playing reasons.

So yeah, Purrcious guess building a guild is the answer and inevitable.

The question that needs to be asked here is What is the design intent of Message Groups and why does it have a limit on numbers. What is achieved by limiting the member count of message group?

Purrcious just like to repeat points discussed in IRC with Wimpie.

BM needs to improve the new player experience so that recruitment can be translated to player retention.

More Discussions here is highly encouraged:

And finally some stats:
As of September
BM registered players: 419
Weekly Activity: 256
Daily Activity: 124

Text-based browser games has been in decline the couple last years, playing a lot of them and everything seems to be suffering in playerbase. This is probably highly affected by the fact that most people trying to kill time has now mobile games at their disposal.

More stats:
/r/browsermmo : 591 subscribers
/r/pbbg : 441 subscribers
/r/webgames : 93,579 <-- this are games with graphics though

A lot of the pbbg & browsermmo play games that doesn't have a limit on the time you can spend on them which is mostly called stamina or timed which battlemaster is; so we're really looking at a very niche market now.

This isn't a post to sound pessimistic but more about how to approach the matter more intelligently.

Battlemaster might have to really innovate or adapt to break to other audience.

Spindel was on 12 hours, forgot how much after turn change. Will keep an eye out if it happens again.

Spindel Gungnir might be bugged.

Spindel Travelled to Tindle from Dyomoque which said 6 hours to Tindle (good roads) no battles, not injured, only 50 MI and I didn't arrive in the location.

Ignored that I didn't arrive in Dyomoque from Weghie too yesterday.

Can't figure out what's causing it and gonna keep an eye if it keeps happening. As if the Daimons infestation weren't enough...sigh.

Purrcious have a question which is relatively related in the context of this thread. Is it possible for a realm to march 5 days worth of destination as a target for a war? Purrcious looks at Dwilight and all Purrcious can think is that's a really huge map that can't attack each other because of inconvenience and heavily favoured defensive mechanics in the game.
