Title: New button for single-duchy dukes: "Seize the Throne"

Summary: Basically, dukes of the last duchy in the realm are actually less directly powerful than if there were another duke: they can be banished, bullied or whatever and can't have any recourse. While it is understandable that seceding the duchy is destroying the realm uselessly, there is a middle ground: just let the duke take the throne, instantly getting rid of any banishments, making him the king of the realm and letting him keep his duchy. This incentivizes rulers to either distribute power among multiple dukes or be forced to trust their single duke implicitly. The old king would still be a royal and wouldn't be banishable, giving him an opportunity to rebel and take both the throne and instantly banish the new king should he win. Dukes should be attempting to expand their domain, not shrink it so that they can still hold some form of leverage. The current system makes no sense.

Details: When dukes are otherwise prevented from forming a new realm and are the only duke left in the realm, they may seize the throne, bloodlessly becoming the new ruler.

Benefits: Balances the game a bit more. It doesn't really make much sense for the final duke in the realm to be unable to cripple the realm to the extent that a less directly-powerful duke would be able to. These kinds of people shouldn't be able to be bullied and making your realm single-duchy shouldn't be an insurance against treason.

Possible Exploits: It might be that some dukes would use this as an alternative to a rebellion, but the fact that the ruler wouldn't be instantly banished is a downside that might prevent that.

Would anyone be down to play a game of DND 3.5e, presumably using a combination of Skype and some online board? I can DM if necessary.

Other Games / The Resistance
« on: February 20, 2013, 03:57:54 AM »
Here's a game very similar to Werewolf/Mafia, with some key differences, the major one being that nobody dies and everyone will be able to play until the end. If there's enough interest I'll develop a story and all that so that you can RP to your heart's content.

Rules (credit to Wikipedia):

At the start of the game, one third of the group (rounded up to the nearest whole number) are randomly and secretly chosen to be Imperial Spies, while the rest of the group are Resistance. One of the players (either a Spy or Resistance member) is selected to be the Mission Leader. The Imperial Spies are made aware of each other without the Resistance members knowing - the only thing the Resistance members know is how many spies exist, not who they are. Nobody may discuss this game in private - all discourse relating to the game must take place here.

During each round of the game, the player to the left of the previous Leader becomes the new Leader. Depending on the stage of the game, the Leader needs to select a certain number of players to send out on a mission (the Leader may choose to go out on the mission himself). The amount of players necessary for a mission depends both on the turn and the number of total players, which will be published once we know how many players there are. All of the players then discuss the Leader's choice and, simultaneous and in public, vote on whether to accept the team make-up or not. (To simulate simultaneity, everyone will PM me their votes and I will reveal them publicly). If a majority is not reached, leadership passes on to the next player to the left, who proposes another distribution of plans. This continues until a majority of players agree with the current Leader's distribution of plans. If the plans are rejected five times in a row, the Imperial Spies automatically win the game, because there is too much discord within the rebel team to function properly.

Once a mission team is agreed on the players are then sent on the mission. The result of the mission is then determined by the participating players: Resistance members will secretly PM me a "mission success" PM and spies will secretly PM me either a "mission success" or "mission failure". This is in order to prevent metagaming by gauging activity levels. If all PMs show success, the resistance team earns one point. If even one PM shows failure, the spy team earns one point. I will say how many of each PM type I got publicly but will obviously not tell anyone who sent what.

The game continues until one team accumulates 3 points.

I'll be setting up mission leader order randomly. There will be no time limit on turns or anything of that nature but I will replace people at my own discretion.

I'll be taking a maximum of ten people but we will also need substitutes when people inevitably lag the game behind.

Anyone interested?

EVE and BM are pretty similar games and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of overlap. Any other players here?

I'm Slapsticks ingame, used to be part of TEST but not a big fan of bloc warfare. Mostly into small-scale PVP, trading, and scamming/corp infiltration.

Summary: As requested by Tom to formalize, make a list with all of the estates in a realm with its calculated current (and maybe also theoretical 100% production) income, including taxes.

Details: n/a

Benefits: More competition for best estates, allows realms to better optimize, makes sure newbies don't get totally screwed and get crappy income.

Possible Exploits: n/a

Helpline / Changing character name - allowed?
« on: December 14, 2012, 06:49:43 AM »
Hey, I want to emigrate a character. However, a character already exists there with the same name. Am I allowed to change his name (maybe adding a number, so from Gilbert to Gilbert II) in this instance? Or it is really exclusively for inappropriateness?

Title: Removal of prestige requirements for council elections

Summary: Let people with less than 10 prestige run for council elections

Details: ^

Benefits: Allows for newbies to get into the game faster, the restriction is often seen as unfair and arbitrary.

Possible Exploits: Potentially more incompetents would be elected.

I've noticed that advy gear costs different amounts depending on where you are. Is this related to gold production, region type, or is it random?

Note that these rules are fairly different from the ones that you guys are used to. They're ripped from mafiascum.net. You can expect the games to be much slower paced and much more about logical deduction and discussion than shooting in the dark. This game needs 9 people and I will be taking you on a first-come first-serve basis. Do not subscribe to the game if you do not intend to post at least once every two days. Yes, this game will have a theme and roleplaying, the details of which you can find on some later post on this thread.

We have enough players now. Should you be interested in subbing in the future, PM me and I'll put you in as soon as I can.

Living [7]:
Lefanis
Ketchum
Velax - Vanilla townie, puddlized by the mafia night 1.
Fury
Indirik
Lanyon - Lynched day 1, revealed to be Vanilla Townie

Other Games / The Hunt
« on: August 27, 2012, 08:53:49 AM »
With the recent interest in Werewolf, maybe you guys'd be interested in a lighter game with similar themes.

THE HUNT

A game of Social Interaction and Strategy. Prisoner's Dilemma meets Survivor. Cooperation and Deception. Survival of the Fittest.

Where does power reside? The free men say it resides with the people, the fascist with the force of arms, the priest with the voice of God, the 1% with mountains of cash. Varys says it resides where men believe it resides.

They are all wrong. Power truly resides with meat. Piles and piles of juicy, juicy meat. Love doesn't make the world go 'round, unless it's a specific kind of love. Love for a bloody raw sirloin. Mmm.

Do you have what it takes to be powerful?

HUNTERS:
Cren - 32

Barek - 16

Zakilevo - 4

Ketchum - 0

Ross - 0 - DIED DAY ONE AFTER A VOTE

LGMalpha - 0 -

Penchant - 6

Ehndras - 4
----------

HISTORY:

----------

Here is how the game works. Each Round you will select which animal you will hunt. The list below informs you of all seven animals, what is required to successfully hunt that animal, and how many points that animal is worth.

Cheetah - If only one person hunts this animal, he/she will be successful and earn 16 points. If more than one person attempts to hunt this animal, the Cheetah will be scared away and all hunters attempting to hunt this animal will recieve 0 points.

Lion - If two or less people attempt to hunt this animal, they will be successful and will each earn 13 points. If more than two people attempt to hunt this animal, the Lion will be scared away and all hunters attempting to hunt this animal will recieve 0 points.

Hippopotamus - If six or more people attempt to hunt this animal, they will be successful and will each earn 12 points. If five or less people attempt to hunt this animal, there will not be enough hunters to hunt this animal and all hunters attempting to hunt this animal will recieve 0 points.

Elephant - If five or more people attempt to hunt this animal, they will be successful and will each earn 10 points. If four or less people attempt to hunt this animal, there will not be enough hunters to hunt this animal and all hunters attempting to hunt this animal will recieve 0 points.

Rhinoceros - If four or more people attempt to hunt this animal, they will be successful and will each earn 8 points. If three or less people attempt to hunt this animal, there will not be enough hunters to hunt this animal and all hunters attempting to hunt this animal will recieve 0 points.

Giraffe - If three or more people attempt to hunt this animal, they will be successful and will each earn 6 points. If two or less people attempt to hunt this animal, there will not be enough hunters to hunt this animal and all hunters attempting to hunt this animal will recieve 0 points.

Zebra - If two or more people attempt to hunt this animal, they will be successful and will each earn 4 points. If only one person attempts to hunt this animal, there will not be enough hunters to hunt this animal and the hunter attempting to hunt this animal will recieve 0 points.

Warthog - Anyone who hunts the warthog will automatically be successful and will automatically earn 2 points.

Each round you will have the oppurtunity to hunt one animal. This will then determine how many points you will earn. Your points stay with you throughout the entire game and will continue to grow (unless of course, you continue to get 0 points each round). Not all seven animals will be available to hunt each round, I will inform you ahead of time which animals are available to hunt during that round.

After each round there will be an elimination. I will roll a die, the result will determine how the elimination will occur. There are three possible ways for the elimination to occur.

Vote Off -- Each person will cast a number of ballots equal to however many points they have. Whoever recieves the most ballots will be eliminated. (For example, if you currently have 6 points, you will be given the oppurtunity to cast 6 ballots). The person with the highest points is immune from recieving any ballots. If multiple people are tied for highest points then nobody is immune from recieving any ballots.

Dictator Decides -- Whoever currently has the most points will get to decide who is eliminated. In the event of a tie a dice will determine which one of the leaders gets to eliminate someone. If there was a tie, the leader may not eliminate anyone who has as many points as they do.

Weakest Link -- The person with the lowest amount of points will be eliminated. In the event of a tie, the person who recieved the lowest points in the most recent round will be eliminated. If there is still a tie we will go back a previous round, etc. If a tie continues to exist then the current point leader will get to decide which to eliminate.

The game ends when only two people remain, and both will be declared the winners.

If you miss a deadline during a hunt you will do nothing and gain 0 points. All choices will be made in private, via PM, to me. Rounds last 24 hours. Communication is allowed inside, and outside, the thread. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will be accepting a maximum of 10 hunters and a minimum of 7 hunters. Best of luck! In order to apply simply post in the thread. First come, first serve.

BM General Discussion / Concisus Numinis

Hey. I've been working on a religion for the past little while, you can get a good rundown of it here, though it's not entirely complete:

http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Concisus_Numinis

Any creative feedback or advice? Also, any tips on where I can found this sucker? Preferably somewhere on Dwilight but I am amenable to alternatives.

Edit: Some credit where it's due: a lot of stuff was inspired by the various faiths of A Song of Ice and Fire, the real life zoroastrianism and from the western monotheistic religions. Arundel also helped with some stuff and a lot of previous feedback's been given by the guys at #Pyrism.

Would anyone be interested in playing a succession game of CKII? Changing the player of the save file every time there's an actual succession ingame could be quite cool.

List of players:

1. Slapsticks
2. Adriddae
3. Telrunya
4. Loren
5. Arundel
6. Draco Tanos
