Helpline / Religion Est. Followers?
« on: July 13, 2020, 03:15:12 AM »
So, if you look at the Order Locations option when at a temple for a religion, it tells you all the temple locations and gives you an estimated follower count.

When you choose the Religion Option "Show Spread", it shows you the estimated followers of each region, and a total estimated follower count.

My problem is that there is a 30,000 follower difference between the two.

So which one is the "more accurate" estimate? I am assuming it would be Show Spread, since it uses gold and hours...

BM General Discussion / Prophet Fame Points
« on: May 07, 2020, 05:36:18 PM »
So I am currently trying to figure out what the requirements are for the Prophet Fame Points. I will list what I have done/what has been debunked, as well as speculations. If anyone has started a successful religion or thinks they have gotten the Fame Points, I would be thrilled to have your input!

The strikethroughs are what I have already done, and did not result in the points. I will list what I have done in chronological order of them happening.

Done by the Pride of Leandra:
*Having 10 nobles and a region converted more than 50%
*Having more than one temple
*Convert a noble via private sermon
*Have more than one priest
*Have a level 4 temple
*Have a level 5 temple
*Have nobles in more than one realm (3)
*Have temples in more than one realm (2)
*Have three total priests (Zakky has had three priests in his religion, and didn't get the points)
*Have level 3 temples in more than one realm (I have been told this is not it, but will leave it to disprove it anyway)
*Have priests in more than one realm (I have been told this is not it, but will leave it to disprove it anyway)
*Survive six months

Remaining Possibilities:
*Have 10 regions above 25%
*Have 5 regions above 50%
*100,000 followers
*Survive one year
*Convert 100% of a region
*Hold a Government Position (I have been told this is not it, but will leave it to disprove it anyway)
*Have four total priests
*Conduct an auto de fe (I have been told this is not it, but will leave it to disprove it anyway)
*Claim a Region (RTO)
*Have a Theocracy created from your religion

Current Stats
*Current followers ~89,176
*Founded 18 Jan 2020
* Total Regions Touched: 56
* Total Regions above 25%: 10
* Total Regions above 50%: 6
* Total Regions above 75%: 3

Questions & Answers / Graphic RP Feedback Thread
« on: April 19, 2020, 05:08:26 PM »
In an effort to build an all-inclusive game atmosphere, we are working on creating a graphic RP warning system, which would warn players that a certain RP contains themes that might be offensive or disturbing to some.

Until that rolls out, we are needing players to put something like "Out of Character Warning: this roleplay contains graphic content." at the top of these RPs.

In this post, we would love to have some feedback on these ideas, and for anyone to pose any questions they have regarding the subject.

Feature Requests / Rejected - Priest Perform Miracle
« on: April 12, 2020, 10:22:18 PM »
Title: Miracle Healing
Summary: Allow Priest to be able to attempt to save a killed hero.
Details: Make an option where if a Hero is killed in battle, a Priest can attempt to heal them. I imagine a very tight timeline on this, perhaps two turns for the priest to get to the hero, and then have a rate of success based on the priest's Oratory skill.
Benefits: A previous feature request got me thinking about how to improve the religion game in BM. What does it lack? A reason to have faith. Being able to perform something that is generally impossible to all others (while not being game breaking of course) would go a LONG way in motivating players to be more faith orientated.
Possible Downsides or Exploits: If the rate of success is too great, it might be impossible to kill off heroes. However, given the low volume of priests, they would have to be lucky enough to be in range, and then win the roll to succeed at healing. This would do nothing to give any real edge in combat or realm strength, so I think the downsides are pretty minimal.

Feature Requests / Priest Game Upgrades
« on: February 14, 2020, 03:06:08 AM »
Title: Priest Game Upgrades

Summary: Some minor improvements to further integrate priests and religions into the realms: Offer morale "blessings" to units to raise morale, allow priests to gain honour/prestige.

Details: I did a search for this first, and it seems both were talked about years ago (circa 2011) but nothing really came of it as far as approved or rejected. If there was a more recent discussion, I couldn't find it and I apologize.

First, the blessings: Allow a priest to bless the unit of any noble who is a follower of their religion. This would simply give the unit a small morale boost based on the priest's Oratory skill.

Second, in much the same way as Courtiers, when priests do their Religion actions, give them hon/pres every once in a while.

Benefits: Blessings: This would further integrate religion and priests into the realm. Armies would actively want priests around, especially on long-range missions where morale begins to become a problem. People would be able to see a result from their chosen deity, rather than just fancy words. This is a huge problem IMO with the current priest game, as there is very little buy-in from game mechanics.

Hon/pres gain: Generally speaking, the higher hon/pres a character has, they are afforded more respect in a realm. Given that high religious positions in history have always been prestigious, it makes sense that priests in game would gain it as well.

Possible Downsides/Exploits: The blessing mechanic would have to be scaled so that it doesn't become OP. While a priest with 100% Oratory should be able to make significant improvements to an armies morale, a single priest should never ben able to completely restore an army's morale.

Helpline / Ancient Documents
« on: January 31, 2020, 04:44:55 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten more than one set of Ancient Documents with a single Adventurer? It seems to me that pretty much every Advie I have made has found them extremely early in their career, and then never again.

Were they introduced to make becoming a noble slightly easier, so that you only need 2 recommendations? Or is it possible to find more than one set?

Feature Requests / TODO - Adjust Buying a Region Mechanics
« on: January 28, 2020, 05:59:21 PM »
Title: Adjust Buying a Region Mechanics

Summary: Currently, when a region is taken over, a different realm can buy the region if it is lordless within seconds of the turn change. This has resulted in what people call "click wars". Given that the game prides itself on not punishing inactivity, it really doesn't make sense to have a mechanic that forces you to be clicking refresh on your character at turn change unless you want to lose your freshly gained region. Furthermore, any one ordering a Duke to do this to appoint a lord is violating the Dukes IR for activity. So how do you defeat it? You can't, really. Which is why I propose a grace period. One turn after the region is taken, the administrators still haven't returned to work, and there is no one there to bribe. That way, the gaining Duke has one turn to log in at their leisure and appoint a lord. After that one turn, it is still a free for all.

Details: Include a restriction that prevents the purchase of a lordless region for one turn after the region is taken over.

Benefits: There will be MUCH less frustration from players losing regions they worked over a week taking over, only to lose it to something they can't control. Since this affects both sides of any war, everyone experiences less negativity and bitterness over the mechanic.

Possible Downsides or Exploits: I am making this request to combat an exploit. The only downside I can think of is for realms with hyper-active players that have huge family fortunes being upset that they can't indefinitely prolong a war by constantly winning the click war. Honestly though, that doesn't sound like a downside.

Feature Requests / The Adventurer Upgrade Request List
« on: September 29, 2019, 04:42:54 PM »
•   Title: The Adventurer Upgrade Request List.
•   Summary: Many players have noted the lack of depth in the Adventurer game. This post would serve as a collection of ideas to the devs that can actively be approved or rejected. Reply to the thread with an idea, and once approved or rejected I will add it to this post to collect ideas.
•   Details: Anaris has mentioned a desire to make changes to the Adventurer game, in the hopes of making it more fun and contribute more to the game. This is a community effort, as different people play differently.
•   Benefits: Making the Advie game more fun is the goal.
•   Possible Downsides or Exploits: Downsides/Exploits will be described for each item.

Approved:

Rejected

Pending:

1)   Sellsword Advies: Allow Advies to provide mercenary work to a Noble’s unit and fight alongside it, perhaps giving an extra 50CS or so. Option should only be available to Advies who have a certain amount of prestige, to avoid players making Advies with the sole purpose of unit-boosting. Also, restrict players from joining their own noble’s unit.

2)   Dungeons/Quests: Opportunities where an Advie can engage on a quest or dungeon, perhaps with other Advies which would increase chances of success. Rewards of gold/items/scrolls could be made for completion, given the difficulty. Possibly as a text based adventure style mini game.

3)   Adventurer Message Group: Instead of writing to any Advie within vicinity, which fluctuates constantly, perhaps introduce my consistency with allowing Advies to write to all Advies within their realm. Also, allow Advies to send realm wide (to include nobles) messages that are restricted to RPs, to allow more people to enjoy the “story” of Advies.

4)   Revamp Sages/Wizards: Provide static wizards in key locations that do nothing but repair Items. Sages/Wizards can give Advies a “quest” which will log what ingredients an Advie needs for a Scroll/Item.

Feature Requests / Reply All
« on: July 13, 2019, 02:02:45 PM »
Title: A Reply All Message Function

Summary: We have already taken a great stride in the messages with the "Reply to List" function, but I would like to propose adding a "Reply All" function.

Details: All too often, a letter is sent out to three or four people who are not of a specific group. To reply to all these people, you have to individually select them every time you want to send a letter. It becomes a nightmare when the number goes up. Just like an e-mail service, we should implement a "Reply All" button, which takes you to a new message addressed to the addressees of the previous message.

Benefits: Saves time, saves frustration, prevents people from getting missed in group correspondence. Streamlines the message system.

Possible Downsides/Exploits: It is pretty low-impact gameplay wise, so I don't think there would be must to abuse.

Feature Requests / Marriage Diplomacy
« on: February 02, 2019, 06:40:29 PM »
Title: Low level marriage diplomacy.

Summary: Allow individual characters to get married. Married characters would automatically be neutral observers for any battles with their spouses realm. Marriages have been an RP thing in the past, but if we include a mechanics aspect of it with consequences that can't be avoided, it could be used much more effectively. This would be for as long as the characters live, no divorce. Marriage would not be an IR for characters. Rulers could forbid marriages, and if the character follows through with it, they will have the wrath of the ruler on them.

Details: An option would be added where if two characters were in the same region, they would have an option to propose marriage to another character. I see this mechanically happening similar to trading a unique item. One party proposes, the other receives a message where they can accept. If one character leaves the region before complete, it will be canceled. A warning message would have to be included stating that it is permanent and that they will not be able to take up arms against their spouses realm. Characters would have a line added to their Character Page below the line stating their position, like "Married to Sir XXX of Realm X on DATE".

Benefits:
1) Increase RP availability. There is RP of the wedding, but also if a spouse is killed or wounded, it would involve drastic vengeance plots. Also allows for "Romeo and Juliet" scenarios.
2) Diplomacy. All through history royals were married to other royals as peace deals or alliance builders. The same would be done here. It would require commitment from rulers, and could get delightfully awkward if relations between realms fell.
3) Lower level politics could be utilized. Marriages could support not going to war, or an assault on a loved one could push a realm to join in on a war, giving more cause than "hey we are at peace let's get in on this".

Possible Downsides or Exploits: I can see this being done arbitrarily and regretted, especially when it is first introduced and the novelty is high. However, I think that will pass quickly, especially if there is a warning message that it is irreversible.

Marketing / BattleMaster clothes
« on: January 16, 2019, 11:52:03 PM »
http://www.cafepress.com/trademaster

I stumbled upon this quite by accident. Didn't even know it was a thing! So I went ahead and bought some sweet BattleMaster swag! (No, sorry, I couldn't bring myself to buy the thong!)

My review:
Ordering was super easy, and shipping was surprisingly fast! (to Canada). I got the package and pulled out a terribly cozy sweater, ready to rep my favorite game. I slid it over my head and the first thing I felt was the sensation of heavenly clouds caressing my skin. The inside is so soft, it makes baby lambs feel like steel wool.

Not only is it raising awareness for BattleMaster, it is also a total babe magnet! My wife hasn't been able to keep her hands off of me ever since I started wearing it! She won't let me wear it outside the house because I will undoubtedly be mauled by a mob of women overcome with desire.

An excellent hoodie with a dope AF logo on the chest. Thumbs up!

Helpline / Holy Man
« on: January 16, 2019, 12:36:14 AM »
In the Information tab, under Fame, and Deeds, there is a ranking for Holy Man. Two of my characters have founded religions, but one is at 50 and the other is at 100. Both religions have about the same number of nobles, and the character whose Holy Man is at 50 definitely has more followers.

Anyone have any reason what the cause could be for the difference?

Also, the one with 50 is on Dwi, and the one with 100 is on Colonies. Perhaps religion is more dominant on Dwi, so the new religion doesn't stack up as much as the new religion on the Colonies?

East Island / Greatest Sword Fighter on the EC?
« on: January 02, 2019, 04:18:31 PM »
I was just looking at Svetlana's fame, and she is in the 93 percentile for SF. I am curious if she is tied with someone else on the continent, or if someone else is higher than her. Anyone else have exceptional SF skill?

I wish you could determine your actual skill past 80%...

I am being completely serious here. Lately in BattleMaster, I have been noticing a TON of crybaby antics when things don't go a players way, or when adverse events happen to a player.

It is honestly ruining the game for me. Should every realm just sit comfortably, just battling back and forth over one "war" region? This is a political simulator!! Realms die! Conspiracies are made! People play straight shooting characters, people play psychopaths, people play liars!

But instead of what I would expect to hear like "Hot damn, that guy really got one over on me! I am definitely going to get him back!" I hear a bunch of "Abuse! POWERGAMING! OOC OOC OOC! YOU ARE RUING THE FUN OF THE GAME!" What fun? Yeah man, it is super fun letting you sit as ruler, not interacting with the realm at all. My bad.

Get real. I am spurred to write this because today a player accused me of powergaming. Me. I publicly have state that I don't go on Discord for that very reason. I only engage in discussions on the forum about either game mechanics, or events in the past. I don't play here. I don't conspire, or manipulate. I do that all IG, and IC. And yet, I am still accused of this. Weak.

I don't know. Maybe it is just a reflection of society. And I understand, this a rant and I don't have any solution. I am sorry for that.

I just really don't know how much longer I will play this game if whiners and crybabies keep trying to take the "shake it up" fun out of the game. I didn't come here to play PeaceMaster, and I am not interested in just clicking orders for my unit twice a day. I came here for the player and character interaction.

Helpline / Question about Skill and New Fame
« on: August 11, 2018, 04:11:02 PM »
I have a character who, under the New Fame tab, has 38 Sword Fighting. Now, my understanding is that is my percentage relative to whoever has the highest of that skill on the continent, correct?

But at the Academy, his SF skill is 50%. So does this mean someone on the continent has a 135% SF skill? The numbers don't seem to add up for me.
