Helpline / Dissolve Duchy after secession
« on: July 18, 2015, 10:48:36 PM »
So Madina currently has a duchy consisting of a single rural. No Lord, no Duke. How do I abolish this Duchy/attach the region to another Duchy?

Also, should it even be possible for a single rural to be a duchy?

Dwilight / What Lies West II a.k.a. The Cause
« on: July 06, 2015, 05:18:36 PM »
So after the secession of Fissoa, Madina will be looking into a new avenue: PvE combat!

There's a whole lot in the works (realm system inspired on Siculo-Normans, new Faith, Order based on Saint-John and much more), and to make it work we'll need a lot of people to join. But that's all for later!

Right now I want to know just one thing: is there any technical/game rules reason a human reconquest of the West is impossible? I understand hordes of monsters roam about, that staging an amphibious assault will be a nightmare, even more-so to capture/hold a city against onslaughts of monsters. But is there a concrete wall we cannot pass? In the same way that the sea zones southwest of Dwilight have their access restricted?

Tl;dr: I always liked Dwilight for its frontier atmosphere and want to bring it back through a human led (probably catastrophic) counter-invasion of Western Dwilight. Is it technically possible?

Edit: so waiting for replies I read through the other thread, and there seem to be no technical reasons other than sanity that would prevent an attempt to retake lands to the West.

More to come soon!

Helpline / Placeholder Rule
« on: December 28, 2014, 09:31:04 PM »
There's a rule against placeholders for titles. Am I correct to believe the rule does not prevent Regencies?

And that it is rather intended to prevent Duke Kepler to safeguard his title from losing it through, say, captivity by having Lord Kester claim it - who intends to step down and see it returned to Duke Kepler at a later date?

Dwilight / Luria Nova vs the rest (bis)
« on: November 26, 2014, 12:00:11 PM »
Hey guys. In Fissoa there was a bit of discussion going on today on the current conflict. Many players feel the war doesn't provide any entertainment or inspiration, and some are even frustrated by how things are developing on an OOC level. Claims of unfair advantages in Luria Nova become more frequent, and though they might be unfounded, they express a very real disappointment in what is happening at the moment. I also have to admit the whole conflict has been the most boring I have been in in BM, though that's also because Skyndarbau is old and slow nowadays. And how are things for players in Swordfell, Morek, D'Hara, ...?

Anyways,
I was wondering if players in Luria Nova feel the same way. Are you enjoying this war? Does it provide interesting storylines, fun battles or memorable events? Of course the whole LN vs the World is more interesting than Fissoa's 'let's try for weeks to get a joint strike coordinated and then travel for a week with no result', but still - I am genuinly curious.

Consider this to be an open question to create some new dynamics. Feel free to contact me IG through IC or OOC means if you want to set something up.  If nothing changes, I fear half of Fissoa's nobles will leave the realm or worse the game at some point, so if the same is happening in other realms, now seems a good time to take action.

Other Games / Game of Thrones
« on: July 11, 2014, 11:31:37 PM »
Has anyone been playing the board game yet? I can very much recommend it. Any thoughts?

Seems a little unbalanced, at least for us novice players though, in favour of the Iron Islands. So far I have only played three full games, and Pyke has taken the win every time. Lannister seems to be in a tough spot from early on. The Starks are pretty solid, defense-wise, but unless they risk everything in an amphibious assault they are locked in up north. Baratheon usually gets a lead early on, but gains the attention of Martell/Lannister/Tyrell because of this and gets stunted in it's growth.

So far, I have almost won once with Tyrell - only one combat strength in battle short for the ultimate castle in the final turn. Can't wait to play Pyke some time!

Questions & Answers / Roleplaying issue
« on: March 26, 2013, 04:07:49 PM »
Hello.
Stickies in this section state that the Courthouse is meant for (possible) violations of the social contract and the IR. Does this mean I should take cases regarding roleplaying ettiquete (basically things that violate http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Roleplaying imo) elsewhere?

I would like to ignite discussion regarding the roleplays of a certain character. What is the appropriate board to do so? I'll add that if a transgression would be attested, I would like to see the RP rules/guidelines inforced, so that's why I came to the Courthouse.

Helpline / Appointing a Duke
« on: March 05, 2013, 06:35:15 PM »
Hey guys. Today I ran into a problem appointing a Duke. Several people of my choice are not in the shortlist. Could someone explain what determines selection?

I can rule out:
H/P
Time in realm
Already holding an estate
Not present in the Duchy Capital
Not Present in the realm

Reappointing the previous Duke is not even an option...

Quick reply would be appreciated as to not undermine the war effort :)

General Talk / Picture Request
« on: November 08, 2012, 12:14:18 PM »
Hey guys. I have a somewhat unusual request, but because I know several members of this community are adept in digital arts and crafts I figured I'd give it a go. I posted this to Reddit.com yesterday, but to no avail. As I've seen beautiful work with coats of arms and such on the Wiki, I'm hoping someone will help out :) I don't think there's any precedent for it, but I'd even be willing to pay with in-game gold if that's possible (and allowed?)

So here's the deal: I'm a leader in a local scouts group, and this year the kids will be presented with a giant puzzle/riddle/treasure hunt throughout the year (something in between Lost, Assassin's Creed puzzles and the Zodiac Killer). The idea is that they can gather clues on a weekly basis, where these hints regarding the location of the treasure (still to be decided what that is) will be seamlessly integrated in our other activities

For the kids it will be clear when a hint surfaces because it will always be accompagnied by a monogram  (a bit like the AC Logo is hidden in the AC puzzles. http://images.wikia.com/assassinscreed/images/1/15/Ac_logo_3.png). It is this monogram I would like to request.
The monogram should consist of the letters J and G in a composition like this (http://i.imgur.com/5Mk3N.png). As you can see I can only work with paint, hence this request. I'd like the logo to look clean (like an actual symbol), so not with too much textures or detail; but I also want it to look legit, so with not too straight edges etc so it remains interesting. Also in outline, so it can be coloured.
The monogram will be used for the clues, as a graphic on a sweater/T-shirt and (hopefully) a signet ring.

Influences we found interesting, apart from AC were http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51clsk7hm-L._SL500_AA300_.jpg and http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110814001824/tintin/images/0/01/Kih-oskh_opium.jpg[

Helpline / "RP list"
« on: June 26, 2012, 11:37:49 AM »
On http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/RP_Primer it says, on the bottom line:

But look over what you've written in the past (the RP list is good for this, since it's all archived) and think about what you might do differently next time.

What is this RP list and where can I find it (if it still exists)?

Development / Showing some code
« on: June 10, 2012, 11:29:41 AM »
This is a request to the Devs.

Often when people ask for features for the game, we get the reply 'it is too much work/too difficult to code'. That is usually the point where I back down, because I don't know anything about coding. Would it be possible to show us a tiny fraction of the code Battlemaster is built upon, with some generic explanation and an estimation of the time invested to write it?

This might help me and others to appreciate what you people do for this game, and make the whole 'code' concept less abstract :)

EDIT: in no way does this have to be anything 'classified'. I'm sure you have plenty of boring/obsolete coding lying around? Also, perhaps elaborate on that elusive 'transition to doctrine'?

Other Games / Tribes:Ascend
« on: May 02, 2012, 08:28:27 PM »
This is a free FPS of excellent quality. As earlier games in the series, the gameplay revolves around shooting and skiing.

Basically you're in a suit of armor with a jetpack, and whenever it's downhill you can ski without any friction. This allows for high speeds, above 200KPH is not uncommon. Luckily the maps are ranging from gigantic to humongous.

Three armor types exist (Light, Medium and Heavy), each divided into three classes covering all aspects of gameplay. The main game mode is CTF, though Team Deathmatch (with a twist), Arena and ranked matches are available.

At the start you only have 3 classes available. You can or purchase gold and unlock all other classes (and extra weapons + slight powerups), or gather XP and unlock things more slowly. In general I hate games where free accounts have a disadvantage, but this is no real issue here. The gameplay is heavily reliant on skill, because most weapons use projectiles (so you need to estimate where your enemy will be, again, at high speed).

So far I've played a few dozen hours and unlocked the Pathfinder, Juggernaut and Soldier (3 default), the Sentinel (sniper) and Raider. They all offer very different gameplay experience, and each have a unique role on the battlefield!

This game is fast, and relies on skill as well as teamplay. A great overall FPS! And FREE!

Anyways, let me know if you're up for a game, and add me. Shizzler :)

Feature Requests / Judging messages while in prison
« on: April 18, 2012, 07:53:03 PM »
I have a character in prison, and received a request for peer review. However, clicking the link leads me back to the 'prison portal', keeping me from doing what is asked. Though this isn't a big issue, I wonder if this is intentional? I'd think peer-reviews are on an OOC level, and should not be made inaccessible by IG events. My guess is that this problem just doesn't occur often enough to make fixing it worthwhile?
