EC used to have one of the more active newspaper industries remaining in BattleMaster.

For awhile we had Fontans, Sirion's, Caligus's, and OIs...  Then Sirion's and Fontan's died around the same time, but the New Westmoor was created.

Then after some time the Caligus paper dropped from the scene and OI's became more and more uncommon.  But then Nivemus made theirs.

Now it seems only the New Westmoor is relatively around.

What happened? :o

I enjoyed reading all of them, personally.

http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Ethiala#Out_of_Character_Rules

The realm of Ethiala on FEI had a clause at that link.  I'll repost it here for those lazy. :P

QuoteEthiala is considered a serious roleplaying realm and so requires that all players choose appropriate names for their characters. At an absolute minimum, characters are required to be aware of the [[Serious Medieval Atmosphere]] guidelines, and are also recommended to familiarize themselves with the [[RP Primer]].
There are no 'RP Police' and only the most blatant out-of-character behavior (such as an inappropriate name) will result in an OOC ban. For everything else, just be aware that advancement is usually rewarded to characters who contribute to the medieval feel of Ethiala.

So, I'm wondering, was this legitimate?  Could realms dictate this sort of thing at one time?  Could they still with it not being viewed as an OOC Ban abuse?

Does anyone know if they ever actually used such force in-game, or was it a hollow threat?

Helpline / Title Systems
January 16, 2013, 11:45:19 AM
QuoteSimple
The simple system is very easy:
Dukes are Dukes
Lords of Imperial regions are Viscounts
Lords of other regions are Barons
QuoteClassic
This is the system we used for 6 years; many players grew used to it, so we keep it around. Titles are based on the region type you command:
City or Stronghold: Duke
Townsland: Marquis
Woodland/Rural: Count
everything else: Baron
Alright.  For Simple...  Are there still Viscounts?  Are city/townsland lords called Viscounts instead of Barons or Margraves?

For the Classic system...  Are lords of Cities and Strongholds Margraves or Dukes like the wiki says?

Helpline / A few questions...
January 08, 2013, 12:07:30 PM
1.  Are message group sizes limited by the number of members in a realm? (example:  In the new realm I created on BT, only 3 people can be added to a message group)

2.  Is there any logic behind titles anymore when realms secede?  I ask, because the titles of my new realm, a monarchy, are Pontifex, Paladin Primus, Haruspex Maximus, and Banker.  They were used by the realm we seceded from.  We also had a default message group called a Duma made when we were created.  That got deleted fast.  Sounds...  Less monarchy-like.

East Island / A Lost Realm?
December 16, 2012, 11:00:03 AM
On some pages, I've read something about a realm called "Omsk" that inhabited Kazakh and the surrounding regions.  Does anyone know anything about it?  I'm curious, as it's not on the Lost Realms portion of the wiki for this continent.

Development / A "the" checkbox option
October 14, 2012, 04:55:28 AM
While not a priority obviously, how difficult would it be for religions (and maybe guilds if needed) to have a little option to include the word "the" in messages dealing with it?

For example:  You hear reports of a new temple of Church of Humanity that has been erected in Ossmat.

Doesn't sound quite right, does it?  This would ideally be included to work in titles.  Example:

Michael T. Turner
Emperor of Old Grehk
Ambassador of Old Grehk
Duke of Northern Bay
Margrave of Ossmat
Priest of Church of Humanity

Helpline / Religious Spread Maps
August 16, 2012, 01:28:59 PM
There are some religions (generally older ones) that have religious spread maps not like those offered by the game (ex. http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/File:MAE_Religion_Spread_2.png ).

From my understanding, there was some tool in the past that created these.  So I have a question.  Well, two questions.

1.  Is it still on line/available for use?

2.  If not, does anyone still have contact with the creator?

BM General Discussion / "Elves"?
August 07, 2012, 11:11:50 AM
I've been wondering, which character(s) are ACTUALLY grandfathered in as elves, and which are simply humans who hacked off parts of their ears to make them pointy?  Is there any actual record?

Helpline / RTO Question
July 27, 2012, 09:57:44 AM
My priest, Benedictus, is a noble of Perdan and currently is practicing in Clermont (a territory of Perdan).

Anyway, I get this in the region:
QuoteThings you can not do:
Claim region - you cannot declare a religious state where there is no government.

Is this popping up because it's a territory of my realm (and therefore is just a poorly/wrongly worded message) or is it due to a bug?

Just want to check before I open a bug report on it.

East Island / Largest Temple(s) on EC?
July 22, 2012, 08:53:49 AM
I'm curious, what is/are the largest temple(s) now that the Ibladeshi temples are gone?

I know that the Church of Humanity has two "magnificent temples" (size 6).  Any toppers of that so far?

Helpline / Referendums?
June 14, 2012, 01:06:58 PM
Quick question, as I get "You must be a lord or a member of the government in order to initiate new referendums." when I go to make one, is it intentional that dukes who do not hold a lordship in their duchy cannot make referendums?  Or should I chalk this up to oversight/bug?

Development / Convert! Or be put to the Question!
April 24, 2012, 12:17:00 PM
Maybe it is just the roleplayer in me, but I would love to see an option similar to this:

If a Judge is also a priest, s/he gets another option when someone is in the dungeon.  Call it Forced Conversion or whatever.

Judge clicks on it, it opens a page to write out an RP, just like any other Role Play.  Basically, this option will give the imprisoned character a chance to "find redemption" and convert to the Judge's faith.

For flavor, perhaps a checkbox under the message window that, if chosen, will automatically have the prisoner tortured if he declines.

If it IS accepted, the prisoner should be removed from whatever religion they are currently in and placed in as a starter member of the Judge's faith.

I apologize if this seems...  A bit all over.  6am and still need sleep.  Just would like to see some thoughts on the idea.  Would fit theocracies perfectly, IMO, as well as any other realm with strong religious influence.

So Battlemasterra, the planet on which the game is played, orbits a star called Som (much as our sun is formally called Sol).

Has it ever been officially established if there are other planets in the system?  Do we have one moon?  Two?  Three?  None?

Helpline / Following Orders
January 13, 2012, 10:01:56 PM
I have a question, since some are saying it's against the IR/can't be done:

Can nobles be punished (fined, banished, exiled, refused promotions, etc) for not following orders from the Marshal/General?

Not something like "Head to regionx as late in turn as possible!"  but rather "Rally in regionx" and be given multiple days to do so?

Helpline / New Estate System and Religion
November 10, 2011, 11:12:33 PM
Traditionally, when a lord/duke formed a new religion, they gave up their landed nobility titles.

With the new system, what happens?  Would a duke lose both a lordship and his dukeship?  Would he lose his lordship but keep his dukeship?

I was thinking about this the other day and couldn't find anything that said it either way, so was curious as to how it was taken into account.

Helpline / Protest Options?
September 19, 2011, 05:28:43 AM
New local lord appointed   (25 minutes ago)
Gregor Relak, Duke of Westmoor has appointed Arica as the new Countess of Hagley.
[protest options]

This is more an idle question, but I've noticed it for awhile.  Why is there a protest button when you cannot protest anyone but the members of the Royal Council?

East Island / Standardization and EC Culture
September 04, 2011, 09:46:16 PM
So, I've been thinking about various things in the East Continent.  Regional names, cultures, heck...  Even a name for our continent beyond "East Continent" or "East Island".   I'd love to see this continent, the oldest, have a real history that makes Dwilight's pale in comparison.

Let's start with something simple:  Nationality names.  Honestly, I'm uncertain what some realms call their citizens.  I'd like to see what the "correct" terminology is to be truthful.  Let's start off with current realms, then work on historical/fallen realms later.

Caligus - Caligan
Fontan - Fontanese
Ibladesh - Ibladeshi
Obsidian Islands - Not sure here.  I've taken to call them Kalmarans, though some have called them Islanders.
Perdan - Perdanese
Sirion - Sirionite
Sultanate of Asena - Asenan
Westmoor - Westmoorian

The wiki lists some geographical features, the so-called "Major Geographical Features".   But who named them?  Why?  What real world/historical/fantasy cultures are the various realms based on?  Westmoor, for instance, I've always seen as closer to England or Brittany.  Perdan I see as more French.  So many things to look at.

Feature Requests / All Roads Lead To...
September 02, 2011, 03:40:12 AM
While I am not proposing allowing new roads to be constructed per se, I would love to see two options added:

1.  The option for region lords to invest money in road maintenance.  This would marginally increase all roads in the region.

2.  Allow knights to order their units to reconstruct a one way road.  Ex.  Westmoor to Troyes.  It would function similar to civil work, units would lose morale but the only change is that a road condition would improve.

thoughts?
