General Talk / Favourite book?
« on: July 03, 2012, 07:45:34 AM »
I was surprised this topic has not come up before, or maybe I just didn't go far enough down the necropost.

Many of us here are avid readers and intellectuals, so what's your favourite book (and why if you care to offer)?

I'm a Moby Dick man, I suspect because it was the first real book I learned to read and grew up by the sea.  There is virtually no topic to which Melville does not apply, and it is far more respectable then my love of Wuthering Heights.

Okay, this may be overambitious as a project but one of the main things in making sure any player is happy in their new realm is making sure that they fit.  Battlemaster in the Far East is a collaborative story so I'd like to start up a topic which is not a recruitment drive but instead tells players what sort of realm each realm is, who would fit and who would not.

There have been a lot of changes as the rulers have turned over and not every new player is going to ask "Why X and not Y?" or get unbiased advice.  Theme and "what can be expected," strike me as things that often get ignored.

Feature Requests / Starve Prisoner Option
« on: July 13, 2011, 08:10:47 PM »
This would be way down the list, but an option to simply put someone in an Obliette or the equivelent.  Basically torture without gaining information, for those times when you just want to make someone suffer.  It could do less damage then torture, but be less detectable.

Torture, as it has a use, doesn't convey as much malevolence.  As mentioned, there's probably only a few realms that would do so, so it's not an important alteration.

Development / The ability for leaders to invite
« on: June 27, 2011, 05:22:02 AM »
It would be cool if leaders could invite people from lands they are at war with so there was no worry of arrest.  Just set a flag that a ruler can turn off or on.

Feature Requests / 'Ask' command for special forces
« on: May 16, 2011, 08:02:35 PM »
I haven't seen this specifically requested, but it would be really nice.  New players have enough trouble figuring out what's what without having to play at the guessing game with special forces abilities.  It doesn't have to be specific, but it doesn't make any sense that we don't know what those troops we spend 10 gold a piece training are good at.

Even if it's just a list of lines like:
Attack:  We train everyday to defeat X (Archers/Infantry/Cavalry/SF)
Defence:  X won't break us
Assaults:  Walls?  We can handle walls.

And so forth.  I'm guessing there can't be more then five or six different types.

This is just a wonderment I have, especially as to the spread (literature/movies/history).

Here's mine...

Ciann-  Abdul Haq (Afgani warlord)
Widden- The Medici family (the Fraochs as a whole were imagined as Celtic Medici's)
Gog- Crocodile from One Piece.  Only with an ax and a hook hand and he can't turn into sand.
Solips-  Frankenstein, almost whole cloth, some alchemical theory regresses to circa 1300, but otherwise pure Frankenstein.

So where did everyone else get their mojo, or am I just less creative?
