Spoke with Laststar Family (Cody on Discord), Haguns Family (Haguns on Discord) about additional problems we discovered, specifically with the global RP channel.

Once an RP is viewed, it is no longer viewable once off the page.  Similarly, attempting to access prior posts using the time filters (last week, all dates, etc.) result in Syntax errors, and the posts cannot be accessed.

The errors were:

Yesterday:

Quote
SyntaxError: Unexpected token in JSON at position 1316

Restoring 60 bytes from yesterday 3...

Last Week:

Quote
SyntaxError: Unexpected token in JSON at position 1311

Restoring 60 bytes from week 3...

All Dates:

Quote
SyntaxError: Unexpected token in JSON at position 1310

Restoring 60 bytes from all 3...

Additionally, it seems like there is a problem with viewing messages from other realms in the global RP channel.  My character in Perdan can see the post that Laststar (also in Perdan) made, but cannot see the post that Haguns (Yssrgard) mentions that he made recently as well.

Edit:  Haguns seems to be able to see Laststars, the issue may be that Haguns posted his a day prior to my viewing, and thus does not load for me to see.  An issue of timing rather than of realm.  This has already been reported to the bugtracker.

Hey!

First off, love the look of the new reader and the new features are very cool.

I noticed a couple of things just in my cursory glance through.  The first is that marked messages aren't appearing correctly.  There is no tab in the new viewer to easily reach my currently marked messages.  As well, marked messages seem to be removed from the "Today" tab once they are marked.  They re-appear once unmarked.

The other thing that immediately jumped out at me is that the filters "All types - messages - reports - events - orders - OOC" are missing.  This was a super useful tool to quickly find relevant messages and I hope it will be included again soon.

I'll keep looking around and messing with it and update the thread as I find anything else worth mentioning.  Excited for this and the new writer to launch!

Exploit could be avoided by not granting prestige, but instead limiting or negating the prestige hit from protesting.  This should be a reactionary only option, having no effect unless there are currently active protests going on.

This Forum / Introducing: Your new moderator
« on: May 10, 2016, 05:29:58 AM »
Hey so I've been roped into being the new moderator of this forum.  I still probably won't post much discussion-wise, but I do intend on lurking and making sure the Forum Rules of Conduct is followed when I'm around.  So this is just a heads up that there will be some more moderation in this forum and not to be surprised when I do pop up and give you a warning/delete your post for acting like an ass.

Many of you probably already know me, I'm Jim` on IRC and Kingsley family in game.

I guess that's it, if you have any questions about it, feel free to ask.

Be nice to each other please.

Development / Re: War Island Realm Flavours
« on: May 17, 2014, 08:37:47 AM »
I should mention I'm intending on starting in Taselak, and I was kinda hoping that it would be something that isn't a republic.  That being said I do like the idea of having a national tradition of strength.  Sort of a less centralized chiefdom type Monarchy, since Taselak does inhabit the colder, southern end of the island.  In addition I like that the General is the leader of the realm.  An interesting take on the council positions that really fits the war island feel, and especially with the theme of the strongest survive.  I think the Wolf motif is a bit overdone in other realms, but it makes sense and works well in this context, so I'm pretty much fine with it.

Maybe it's just me but I find republics horribly boring and slow.  Besides, what is there to vote on besides positions?  They make more sense on bigger islands like Atamara, Beluaterra, etc. where realm policy is more complicated, but on War Islands, everyone is just fighting everyone, and the struggle is survival, so I feel republics are a lot less dynamic and will be not as fun and lead to perhaps even a disadvantage for Taselak.

Anyway, that's just my two cents.

Anaris, isn't that Taselak banner actually the old Ikalak banner?  Why wasn't the old Taselak banner used?

BM General Discussion / Re: Closing Islands ?
« on: July 31, 2013, 08:51:56 PM »
There's a lot of talk about moving realms and cultures over from one island to another.

The problem is that the islands that are being moved to are already saturated with culture.  Sure a realm could emigrate together, and all move to the same realm.  But whatever realm they move into already has lands, and a king, and lords, and history and culture of its own.  You cannot keep both.

It's impossible.  Just something to think about since we're jumping onto the island sinking so fast.

As far as losing history and culture etc. being a concern, and Dwilight being brought up.

Compared to the other islands, you would lose less from closing Dwilight than the other islands.  Dwi has only been around for a couple years, compared to some of the others which have been around upwards of 10 years.

Dwilight is unique in this case because it was released long after any of the other islands.

I would rather we not close an island, but it's another factor to consider.

Thalmarkin is like the Persian horde of the north and Melhed are like the 300 Spartans holding in Thermopylae aka Bil Havil-Tepmona. Be part of the horde or be a grizzly spartan BAMF.  8)

We all know what happened to those 300 Spartans...

Maybe you could submit a form providing an in-game reason and then Tom could approve them all himself?

Just a thought.

Atamara:

Minas Leon has finally broken the walls of York and defeated Minas Ithil.  Sidd Kingsley, King of Minas Ithil was killed in the final defense of his realm.  With no ruler, and the capital under Leonian occupation, Minas Ithil seems to be in her final hours.

King Raoul of Minas Leon has offered sanctuary to any Ithilian noble who wishes to join him, with the exception of traitors to Minas Leon during the civil war.  In a speech today he mourned the loss of King Sidd and the inevitable end of his former realm.

Infiltrators showing up on region/scout reports defeats the entire purpose of the class.  The whole point is to infiltrate.  ie sabotage without being seen.  If the enemy knows who did it, what's the point?

This is going a little off topic, but since we're discussing problems with player mentality I feel it's worth mentioning

My character with 500 gold is considered rather wealthy at the moment, at least that is what it seems like with the lack of anybody else giving funds  to others that often.

Why is that not normal?  I see this everywhere "Send gold requests to the council."  Why is it the norm for dukes and rulers to be giving their wealth away to lesser nobles?  That doesn't make any sense to me.  Knights get taxes from their lords.  If they don't get enough to pay their soldiers, perhaps the knight should find a new lord that can actually pay them what they deserve.

I get spreading that wealth around makes your realm's army better, but it just never made sense to me IC and I'm pretty sure it didn't use to be like that.
