BM General Discussion / Re: What we need is young blood
« on: December 22, 2014, 08:47:44 AM »
I don't think the problem is getting new players in. I think the problem is, and always has been, player retention. BM loses more than it keeps, and until things change, will continue to do so. Thus - the steady decline.

Dwilight / Re: How to help Dwilight.

Perhaps the single biggest imbalance at the moment is the vast size of LN's cities. If their population and gold was reduced then it would go a long way to creating more balance on Dwilight.

There was a continent wide region rebalance done not long ago. It increased the population and gold of all of Luria Nova's cities, and increased the food output of nearly all their rural regions, while most other realms saw a large nerf across the board. More rebalancing like that would turn 99% of every region outside of LN into a wasteland.

What Dwilight needs now is to just be sunk. The same goes for all of the other islands - sink everything but one island, centralize play there, start over afresh. These half-assed measures killed Dwilight, when it had been doing pretty alright beforehand.

Let me clarify, then.

For everyone not in the admins' favorite realm, it was a bad idea.

It was a bad concept implemented badly that had - unsurprisingly - bad results. It was a bad idea. I don't think anyone was arguing anything otherwise.

Not really. Cody's a devout follower of the Immortal God-king.

To be fair, being outnumbered by Taselak almost 2 to 1, Ikalak's only chance to win is absorbing what's left of the Sandies. It's easy to ban immigrants when you're the largest realm by far and are winning decisively. You play Cody, right? A brigand who was consecutively banished from both Taselak and Sandalak for not following orders, not playing in team and even spying.
Now you're doing the same in Ikalak and it's actually fine and dandy in-character, but why mislead people OOCly?

Wasn't banned from Sandalak, as that character /was/ following orders when he defected. Chew on that.

I really liked Melodia, before it that OOC rebellion ruined it. Also liked Fontan a fair bit. Is it still around?

The nobles of Ikalak's orders were to sit in the capital, and anyone who attacked the other realms was threatened with immediate banishment.

...This, on a War Island.

Have you seen the monster CS chilling out in almost every single coastal region in western Dwilight? Candiels and Candiels Field had around 140,000 CS between those two regions alone.

It'd be ironic if the death of Jonsu was what brought all these warring states together in a moment of peace.

To, you know, celebrate.

Hasn't it always been this way?

I've had no problems finding big monster groups as an adventurer.

I've seen this happen to other adventurers lately, too.

Dwilight / Re: The relentless monster hordes

We lost Candiels because there was a sudden, consistent, unannounced increase in monster attacks. We went from one battle a turn with about 6,000 CS of monsters vs. 11,000 CS of militia, to 100+  monsters attacking every single turn with over 15,000 CS. It was unsustainable, but then I imagine it was probably the result of a code tweak by developers who wanted this exact outcome.
