Feature Requests / Re: New Mentor
« on: May 06, 2014, 10:33:18 AM »
The old mentor system had mentor points rewarded to mentor characters.
They could spend those points to gain certain special information that you would normally not as easily access.
I think the information included foreign realms tax days and possibly details on their food stored.
Then there where some other options for your mentor points that i can only vaguely remember as useless.

I think the mentor points where accumulated by completing the mentoring of new characters.
New player characters could choose a mentor and at the end of the course fill in a mini survey, if the survey was positive the mentor got points for it.

It never really worked as mentors where not really out to get new students, as the rewards where not very high and also because there was no one responsible by nature of this system.
The responsibility was diffused over the few mentors that where part of usually, only larger realms, nor did they generally cooperate.
I remember kind of abusing it just to get constant tax day information from the enemy as a young player.

I think the idea to assigning an individual as responsible by an in game system, to help new or even just less experienced players is still potential.
Yet we have to incorporate a good top down responsibility hierarchy to make sure every single individual has their own specific task/responsibility, without taking way part(s) of the free, player driven character of the game.
Something like our feudal system, where a duke appoints the lord positions(responsibilities).
Where we can have for example a government(judge or ruler?) member assign mentors to students.
The same old system with the mini survey can be applied on this for the students to rate their mentors work.
Our top responsible, the government member whom assigns students to the right mentors, can see the total score of these mentors based on the surveys from the students.
If the top responsible doesn't assign (certain) students to a mentor, he gets reminded and perhaps a score can be held of how fast characters where assigned including the average ratings of the realms mentors.
This info could be public realm information, also when creating a new character or immigrating to a new continent, but also for the titans of that continent.
Rulers/realms who ignore the system can be asked to do more to help integrate our new players by those Titans if scores drop considerably.

When the survey is filled and thus both student and mentor have agreed that the basics are mastered, one can always keep or change their mentor for rp flavor.
Especially if its easily publicly accessible by many other characters, it can be an interesting social status for a character to be mentored by the King and other highly respected individuals, or even better; mentoring the King your self.

Feature Requests / Re: Political power score
« on: April 26, 2014, 09:51:47 PM »
Another attribute of powerful people is the ability to influence elections, so the votes of high-power nobles have more weight.

Isnt that basically already in place under some government system elections?
check here: http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Election

Things like number of knights aligned and prestige matter in elections for most or certain government positions.
Depending on your government type.

BM General Discussion / Re: Number of Players Lost Since Glacier?
« on: April 19, 2014, 10:58:52 AM »
Perhaps a silly idea, but how cool would it be if the current effects given to realms effected by the ice/monster invasion, where given to every realm in the game with a fairly extreme player density.
Those rare situations where a realm is so crowded that tax shares are so low only a few can pay for a unit, for example after being seriously reduced in size after a war or something else.
These effects will give that realm a boost to be able to for example migrate to the together side of the map or simply start a war against their a little bigger neighbor.
Why? because we normally see these realms just slowly bleed out noble for noble, without any realistic chance for conflict.
Its like a last chance for potential, small realms to not only survive, but to remain fun and grow.

Perhaps equally, the opposite effect could be given to realms with an extremely low noble density, slowly increase their unit costs, more morale penalties for marching away to far.
This will force bigger realms with low noble counts to fight wars only with direct neighbors or just reduce in size, preferably both.
Preventing big realms to become police realms of the continent, marching anywhere to include them selves in every conflict.

I understand there are already other mechanisms in place, but i really see potential in this effect on the game in general.

Beluaterra / Re: Enweil & Ally vs Riombara
« on: April 14, 2014, 05:28:20 PM »
One is always more likely to complain then to cheer on the internet.
People actively expressing their opinion on the forum are more likely doing so because they dislike something.

Also, if your realm is losing nobles(not saying that realms lose nobles to ice necessarily; Fallangard is still gaining more nobles), it is no argument at all to support the assumption that players are leaving.
Maybe they paused and created a new char, or just moved their char somewhere else in the game.
Both examples are a desired effect of these events, to increase overall noble per region density.

I definitely agree that most people seem to dislike it, in fact that would be logical.
Yet it doesn't say if these actions are good or not.
Perhaps in due time it will either improve the general experience of the game or even create a lot of fun int he future thanks to these radical changes.

We don't know if where losing players over this, and if we do, then perhaps we still improve the game with it.
(Call me mad, but i do believe so)

Helpline / Re: Glacier Event Unit Payment Bonus
« on: March 30, 2014, 06:26:36 PM »
If you have not paid your unit since before the bonus took effect, you will still have to give them the pay they accrued before then.

When should the bonus take effect actually?
In Fallangard we already lost one region and two more are affected, yet no reduced unit costs.
Brutus payed his men every day since the first cold took grip of tota.

I also noticed some odd migration, perhaps intentional.
But peasants fleeing from the cold en mass in neighbouring regions only.
Once there they only emigrate further due to over population.
But this is usually about 30 peasants in total(daily), while between 5000 and 8000 peasants keep coming in(also daily).
It also looks like all peasants who don't flee in time are lost(died).

Also, will regions receive more income from all these new immigrants?

BM General Discussion / Re: When will the Ice settle?
« on: March 26, 2014, 09:37:57 PM »
More land, not necesarily more regions.
Nice extra flavour, but perhaps alot of work for a minor gain.

What your saying immplies what has been said before: every option would hurt.
We will see what the real effects will be in the player statistics.
If we do not see a considerable drop i believe we can start looking back at a major event causing long term, in game developments and great roleplaying.

This event doesnt have to just draticallyeffect your realm, it could also inspire your character(s)
its faith, behaviour, loyalty, intrests or alignment.
In some timewe might look back at this as incentive for great interaction, stories and battle.

BM General Discussion / Re: When will the Ice settle?
« on: March 26, 2014, 10:04:17 AM »
At first i didn't quite understand the devs plan/idea with this ice.
Or perhaps i didnt want to understand, like many others here.

But after some time, i start to see how this is ging to work and what it is settings in motion.

Its sad on one hand that some ongoing developments have come to an abrupt stop by this gm intervention.
It simply removes realms and its politics/diplomacy like mostly unknown to BM.

Most of us, i think, agree with the notion that we either need more nobles or less regions.
The devs had many options but this one certainly is going to destroy the least in game history and developments.
Where it destroys this with one hand, It also creates allot of new developments.

Some realms are migrating enmass with peaceful intend, accepting some deal with a major realm on the other side of the continent.
Other realms band together and simply try to take the lands from their arch enemies in a leap of faith, hoping to take a new capital before their army is destroyed.
Other realms like fallngard, who had fought since its begining for its survival, enough food production and land for its nobility, have recently gained what they sought and fought for.
The ice however will take away atleast the three regions they started from and by doing so, putting the realm back to its former position: overcrowded with nobles and in a (violent) search for land.
Fallangards quest to carve out a worthy kingdom by military force will continue, thanks to the ice.
Without the ice, atleast that story would have come to an end.

So basically the ice giveth and taketh away.
Destroying old stories, but also creating new ones, or even causing a good story to actually continue onwards.

BM General Discussion / Re: T Minus 28 Days

General activity, amount of border wars and noble density is and have been higher in the south then in the north of the ec.
Both fallangard and Eponllyn have atracted more then average noble counts as well as prooving to be a intresting source of conflicts , developments  both diplomatically, and culturally.

Things are starting to become intresting since a long time as players gather who simply want real wars instead of conserving some kind of horrible status qou.

Ifanything should freeze its sirion, perdan and those useless islands we got since last gm event there.

BM General Discussion / Re: Great Game
« on: February 28, 2014, 09:00:54 PM »
It took me some time to get 'in' the game.
I believe it took atleast two weeks to get used to the basic concept, a few weeks later i found my self complety sucked into its world.

Nice to read about new players like yourself.
Looking forth to meet your characters in game.

Development / Re: Abusing diplomacy
« on: January 28, 2014, 01:06:25 PM »
If you want to attack, alone, sure, you can pull this off. If you want to be part of a coalition, or to defend someone else, you are likely to just watch your allies fight before taking your turn against the common enemy.

Not if you ally your self with them.

Development / Abusing diplomacy
« on: January 28, 2014, 10:18:08 AM »
I noticed that the diplomacy system can be abused quite easily.
If you wish to fight another realm, you can simply join in without declaring war against anyone.
You could defend your allies land by signing an alliance, fight your enemy anywhere even loot enemy regions rogue, without declaring war.
Now there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion per ce.

But it does help you circumvent diplomacy game mechanics, where your peasants would protest against wars they don't like(which is a quite powerful feature).

As long as relations are on neutral, aggressive or murderous settings will be enough to engage the enemy alone, thus allow you do anything else you'd be able to WITH a war declaration then without.
I've seen that its definitively worth it to circumvent these mechanics as they can cause allot of trouble.

East Island / Re: Perdan vs Caligus and Company
« on: January 26, 2014, 10:11:02 PM »
With Caligus gone, Fallangard could travel far north to fight Sirion.

That would be fun once or twice.
But not for long.

Fallangard will eventually get itchy for reall war again.
Perhaps perleone, epponlyn or even Perdan or caligus again.
Who knows. ( i seriously dont)
