Dwilight / Re: Tol Goldora vs Westgard War Name
« on: November 29, 2018, 01:07:00 PM »
Distance from realm penalty causes more problems for a large army out for an extended period of time than a single individual or small group.

Also, it wasn't about the threat they were now, but what they threatened to become. A raiding realm built directly on our borders without even a hint of discussion beforehand says we're facing a realm with no interest in cooperation or collaboration. And regardless of their status as 'threat' or not, that still ignores the incredibly important fact that Westgard relies upon those rogue lands for it's economy. Keeping a mobile monster-fighting army mobile isn't cheap. TG looting in those lands would cause peasant uprisings which are costly on many levels, and bring them into inevitable conflict with Westgard simply due to their proximity. Their *capital* was right on our borders. That puts us at obvious odds regarding expansion, and TG would no doubt intend to expand.

Check a map? You must have missed Westgard's mentions of Knyazes and the fact that Golden Farrow, a new realm's capital, is a mere two regions away from our borders. Anyone who's been paying attention will have noticed, by virtue of our land acquisitions, that Westgard's armies range over hundreds of miles. Golden Farrow was one of the next goals after Knyazes in part to alleviate 'too far from realm' issues with our army movements to the south. As I understand, Selena even mentioned our intention to take the city to the other generals only a few weeks before TG took it.

As far as many of us in Westgard are concerned, TG is a direct assault upon it's sovereignty. A new realm established itself in a city we'd announced intent to take, with their capital a mere two regions from our current borders, and sharing a ferry lane. Particularly when said realm is self-described as a raiding realm, that's very understandably concerning to a neighbor.

Westgard didn't go out in search of people to attack. People needing attacked presented themselves just outside it's borders, lol

East Island / Re: The War

A lot of people are getting bored with the Alara-Perleone war. Perleone is steamrolling now, and Robb decided to give people a choice after he lost his King title to being wounded: fight to the death or seek peace. Peace won by a single vote, and Robb wanted nothing to do with that (it wouldn't make sense for the character of Robb, and the player would have no fun trying to make it work). So he said good luck and left.

Also, Perleone was trying to backstab their allies before this 'backstabbing' by Alara/Minas Nova, thats why they decided to 'backstab' their allies who weren't supporting them against Perleone in favor of Deklan who'd  been there for them (despite his outspoken rejection of war for the return of his kingdom), but hey :P (Obviously not a great tactical choice for them in hindsight, but what they believed to be the right choice)

But now to see if Bracka can actually bring about peace before everyone else jumps ship too.

Development / Re: Family Homes

I don't believe any of my non-Hero characters have ever had the option to move the family home, Lord or not. My Hero, however, pretty regularly had the option of moving the family home to his continent, and still occasionally sees the option when he moves to the capital from his own region (where the family home is currently located).

Feature Requests / Re: Remove magic from EC (Stable)
« on: May 25, 2018, 10:10:49 AM »
I'm fine with magic in Battlemaster in general. But it was my understanding when I joined that EC was the low-fantasy island. And I think that players should have at least one continent to choose from that is low-fantasy. I personally don't particularly care whether uniques stay or go, I'm even okay with some limited scrolls, though I think those should be rare at best on a low-fantasy island.

I have, admittedly, not had much experience with portal stones prior to this incident. They've generally occurred far off (except one humorous incident that lead to one of my lords in Perleone declaring his region - Ar Raqqah, I believe? - a nudist colony when the effects of a portal stone caused everyone to get naked and have some fun). However, prior to this incident, I'd never seen them used as anything more than a bit of RP flavor here on EC. Perhaps I simply haven't been paying attention, that is entirely possible. (EDIT: In fact, based on some discussion in the other thread on Magic in Bescanon, it's been brought to my attention that the portal stone that caused those 'humorous' events in my own lands also ended up with Isadril nearly emptied of population, I had forgotten that bit as it didn't particularly affect me)

However, so long as portal stones are capable of affecting game mechanics on EC in such a major way, I think they should be excluded from EC. If EC is intended to be low fantasy as I had always had the impression, portal stones should either be removed, or they should provide very minor buffs or debuffs to a region at best, sort of like some sort of 'divine blessing' or 'divine wrath' that slightly increases population growth or production or slightly decreases morale or something. (And to be clear, I'm not speaking of the CoH Divine, hence why it's not capitalized. Was just a possible explanation for the source of the effect for a low-fantasy continent, I'm sure there are other options)

BM General Discussion / Re: Discord

I tried Twitch streaming for a while, got into Discord for that. I also use Discord for my Clash Royale clan and my Rust clan. I haven't used IRC since the days of Star Wars Visions with Jor.

Kallimira may have been ruler of Perleone in title during the war against Perdan, but that family is (and was) more inactive than not. Cassandra's been leading for quite some time.

Yes, that solved my issue. Thank you, I now get to begin working on slimming down, apparently.

I just submitted a bug report on it. I cannot play. The only option given me is to pause or delete someone.

Thank God, that ice was the worst idea ever. Until this one, that is.

So, the post says the changes have been rolled back, yet I'm still unable to log in to any of my five active nobles (not counting the war islands character) without pausing someone. I get no chance to wind down my existing characters before pausing? Since absolutely NO notice was given, which is absurd.

All six of my characters are frozen. Two priests spent 12 hours preaching last night out of a full timepool, check in a bit less than 12 hours later and they're both still sitting at 4 hours of time available. Haven't seen any battle/turn change/etc notifications in a while now, either.

This is stupid. Unless you are American or not-English, it's Tas-a-lak.

I'm American, using proper english (ie.- not adding extraneous 'u's in places they don't belong), and it is Tas-a-lak, like you say.

How so? I'm just going by the old standby that if two vowels are separated by only one consonant, then that usually means they have the long vowel sound. It doesn't work all the time, but is a general enough rule for everyday pronunciation.

I've never heard of any such 'standby'. However, I could concede that a long a is conceivable, in the vane of 'laser' or 'base' or 'wave' and similar. However, in all those cases, the 'e' is not made long. It is silent or short. I still go with Team Tassel, it makes more sense of the spelling given.

Also, I think you're mistaking us for the sandals and the ikkies, Indirik.

Going by the spelling, there's no reason for a long a in the first syllable, and certainly not for a long e in the second.
