Newbie Board / Re: Wiki Errors/Confusion
« on: June 12, 2011, 01:21:36 PM »
Don't really know where to post it, but I once began writing http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Newbie_Guide. Being a mentor in Ibladesh (and having many new players join us frequently), I always tell them to read a little there to get started. Most of them seem to find it a very good starters guide.

The idea was to keep building on this guide through questions posed by new players: I think it is the best way to help new players. Answer their questions. Make a massive faq, that is divided in clear chapters, and helps them in different stages (early beginning going to advanced playing). If anyone is interested in helping me out with it or whatnot, feel free to add to the page.

I am very impressed with Perdan. Caligus, not that much. It's really Perdan being a pain in the ass for Ibladesh right now.

I might (finally, after 8 years) donate after this summer... when I cash my money for a month's work! The thing is though, I hate PayPal. Any other solutions (I can use pp if needed, I have done it before, it's just so.freaking.slow.).

Zbartivlast, the Void

Zbartivlast was not sure if his eyes were opened or not. Everything was dark, pitch dark. Yet he could see. Sense. He was aware of his surroundings... which was a nothingness, with a rare object in it.

"I am! I am! I am!" He shouted three times, in joy, thrilled by the idea that he was, and is, something. "If I am... I must be!" And so he formed his shape, which he had, or perhaps hadn't since the beginning of time (he was not aware when the beginning took place). He took form as a rather hollow "man", an image that was portrayed into thin air, casting no shade in light, and only visible when watching closely. Zbartivlast could make minor changes to his image, depending on the mood he was in. He was aware of his shape.

Wandering through the endless Void - was he doing it in his mind, or physically? - he approached a spherical object, accompanied by another something, which transmitted a ray of "being" and "power". He came closer, and from a safe distant he whispered, the Void not killing the noise over distance"What do we have here?"

What university? I'm in Ghent, taking a history minor. (not that I'll try to find you or anything ^^)

The only university better than Ghent. You know it.

Beluaterra / Re: the conflict looming
« on: June 11, 2011, 11:44:56 AM »
well then, join the club and join the fun!

I might... I have actually been looking for a good religion on BT. This continent is really the only continent I play on that lacks a decent religion that offers player involvement and clear goals. Most are just "hanging around", waiting for spontaneous participations... and as far as I know, none have managed to control a state yet (which is a huge requirement for a religion, in my opinion). Then again, I have been absent from Beluaterra for quite a long time, so I might have missed some history.

Where will it be founded?

I suppose it's because people don't perform maintenance on PC's. Over time they slow down, and instead of fixing it, people just buy a new one "because it got too damn slow".

Consoles don't really need that, do they?

+ computers are used way more intensively than consoles. I mean, you can only play games on a console, while there is so much more to do on a computer...

Feature Requests / Re: Simple request: male/female symbols
« on: June 11, 2011, 10:52:16 AM »
I'm not a big fan of this option. I actually like giving the wrong gender to people. It's an aspect of roleplay. I mostly don't check the userdetails for the gender of the character involved; I rather base their gender on their name. It sounds female to me? Then you're a woman. If you're not, I'm sure you'll let me know.

I think it was part of roleplay (I made these mistakes in Ibladesh all the time)... wouldn't mind seeing this option removed again. Won't complain either when it sticks around, but it will, in my opinion, take away a very tiny aspect of the game.  :)

Beluaterra / Re: the conflict looming
« on: June 11, 2011, 10:49:14 AM »
but it will go to war, do you think the concept is so perfect that everyone will just join? :P
no there will always be others out to destroy it and lots of em.
And if you read threw the lines, war and victory threw military conquest or a fight is what set devine events in motion and warriors belong to the highest peasant caste there is.
uniting all beluaterra is quite difficult, it's not as simple as it may look like.

Shae, my characters whos founding the faith is one of reason and logic with a great military career, those who support her are all centralists(imperialists) mostly with a military background.
It is actually founded with the intention of war.
A quite intense one to.

I just based most of my "argument" on the title of your religion (I assume you will change it?). In any case, I would advise getting settled in a realm first. Preferably having that realm completely converted to your faith (you can do this partially by force, within the realm). Then pick a smaller realm, but do not destroy it. Instead, force it to join your faith and convert. It's what I always wanted to do...  :D

Concerning that religion, i have been thinking about it for quite some time now.
This is what i have until now: http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Beluaterranism

I think your approach might be a little off, while I applaud the creation of a new religion. But try not to create something with the intention of it dominating Beluaterra (as a prefix to your religion). Instead, I'd go for creating a religion that does not necessarily has full dominance in mind, but will try to achieve it through war. Much.more.fun.  8)

Quote
Name: Zbartivlast, The Insane
Played By: Fleugs
Symbol: A Kingfisher.
Home: The Void
Domains: madness, fear
Favored Weapon: mace
Divine Powers: Warrior, Divine Intervention
Artifact: Bane

While Zbartivlast mumbles his own title as "The Emperor", all Gods know that he has gone insane. His insanity is guided, though. His favourite activity is luring others into insanity. Next to that he tends to exploit his own madness to scare off his enemies, either in battle or before. As a self-punitive decision, he has spent many of his years blindfolded. This gave him better hearing and improved his other senses, but he has a weak sight when he is in a bright area.

Zbartivlast is a dark personality, wearing scruffy black-leather clothes and dragging his bloodied mace with him wherever he goes. Some say that Zbartivlast is more than one person, all inside one body...

21 year old male, Belgium (that one country with no government), study history at university (bachelor). Main interest lays with either pre-columbian Latin American history or post French Revolutionary European/World history.

Medieval history is fun but I have a strong dislike of it because of the complete catholic domination in it. Not a fan of real life religions, really, but you can find me in the game as a religious fanatic! Must point out though that the "Dark Ages" is probably the worst name ever chosen for that period.

Background / Re: Town or Camp?
« on: June 10, 2011, 11:09:01 PM »
I realize it's been over a month since this thread was active, but:

Standing armies did not exist in the middle ages. Armies would be assembled in times of war and they would set up in "camps", either surrounding a fort where the nobles could enjoy a rather luxurious shelter, or on the field (where nobles and sometimes the common soldiers would enjoy tents for shelter).
