Like the hidden noble one in Whiterun - you can sell her out or kill the assassins. That one was hard for me to decide. My gut instinct is that both sides are a pack of liars. :-)

I've heard quite a few people say they struggled to decide what to do there.

What did you decide to do?

EDIT: Figured some of you might like to see this: http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/video-comparison-of-skyrim-on-ps3-xbox-360-pc/

Dwilight / Re: Southern War of Nobility (Civil war in Madina)

In fact, when the colony started and Everguard threatened it, Madina completely disassociated itself from the new realm, saying they had nothing to do with it.

Not true for all of us. Halicos likes to think of all nobles in Madinan colonies as Madinans, as long as they ask permission to leave first (yes, that's my get-out clause for Aurvandil and I'm sticking to it). He welcomed the Caerywnians back, and he'd welcome the Fissoans back. He wanted to help out, but... umm... my history is hazy on what happened :S

and one horrible defeat when I tried killing one of the mammuts. I was kind of expecting that one, though. :-)

This is what happened when I tried to kill one. The Giant guarding them got rather angry :P

My Conjuration Breton isn't doing too well, mainly because I went off all over the show before getting many conjuration spells. I could raise the dead and summon a wolf and they're not too great against most things :P Got myself a few better spells now, so all should be good :D

I'm hearing that lots of people find it very playable so long as you use a game pad :)

Yeah, when I played it at Eurogamer it worked really well on a game pad. But not having a 360 myself, it means I'd have to go out and buy a pad just to play Skyrim - I'd rather not.

For those on PC, a nice little feature I was told about is setting your field of view a bit wider. Press ` then type "fov 90". I'm on a widescreen monitor though, not sure how it'd look on a regular one.

You seriously believe a 6 year old machine, that can't even take advantage of Direct X 10 is going to stack up against a new PC

This.

A lot of menus are broken or obtuse, where either you can navigate only by keyboard or only by mouse. The AI for switching weapons and spells is also annoying. In spite of this, the game is still awesome.

AI for switching weapons? You mean UI, right?

I really want a pre-set system so that I can say pre-set 1 is my bow, 2 is healing & sword, etc and then have the ability to swap between them. That would make things so much better.

However, it doesn't impact on the game so much that I think "y'know what, sod this". Not yet anyway. Maybe when I get further and need to keep switching between spells, weapons, etc I'll get annoyed.

!@#$ my computer can barely handle this monster!

Everything on ultra, go me! I get lag in really odd places sometimes. I was in a temple and I got ridiculous lag standing near an arcway, move back and it's gone, move forward a bit and it's gone. Other than that, plays smoothly.

I went for a Breton btw, focusing on Conjuration and 1-handed weapons. Keeping my health up is difficult at the moment, but should get easier with better summons.

General Talk / Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver?
« on: November 09, 2011, 10:44:41 PM »
As to the original question, I would look at what format those images are in, it is entirely possible the screen saver feature in XP is unable to load that particular format.

I was going to suggest that, but then I re-read and noticed Bael said they all load at least once :P

Also, I'd presume they use the same code as the picture viewer to load images, so should be able to load any image you can with that.

LCD's experience damage without screensavers as well, no? Zones that display the same items for too long get them 'burned in'. I'm not much of a hero at those things, though :)

Depends on the quality of the screen. Most newer screens have very little burn, whilst a lot of older screens can burn easily. The best thing to do is have a screen saver that's all one colour (so either power save mode or a single colour full-screen image) set to come on after a short amount of time, that way your screen shouldn't have time to burn.

As for the original question, I have no idea. It could be failing to load the pictures, but then, I don't know why it wouldn't. Perhaps it's a scaled up problem of the same thing that causes thumbnails not to show properly when you look at all the files in a folder of images. As for a solution: no idea.

Too much trolling potential if the planets can'T be attacked, imo.

Agreed. Personally, I think a vacation mode in a game like this is definitely a no-go. The current system of "society stops growing" is the best, tbh.

Hey Dave, if at all possible, could it be made so that if someone goes inactive for a certain amount of time, their upgrades become inactive?

Nooooooo. If someone goes inactive for a while and they know they won't be back (e.g. if I go on holiday for a month and won't have internet access), I don't want to come back to all my planets gone, despite having PD on all of them, with many overlapping. Or if I get bored and want a bit of a break, it'd be nice to come back to something rather than everything offline.

As for boarders, perhaps just use influence maps? So it's not predefined, but rather works off how close you have a planet to someone else's planet, possibly tweaked for the society level of the planet.

I'm not ENTIRELY happy to have you so close to my expansion area in the core, its true.

:(

Does anyone use Slingshots? The upkeep seems rather expensive. I could see using them on my few core high production military planets but other then that I don't know that they are worth the cost.

I've got them on a few planets. Mainly ones that my merchants visit often.

At the moment I use routes to delineate the border

I use routes to point to other BM players' home planets.

I've never played the dream

It was a nice little game, and I'm fairly certain you can still play it even without a character on Bel.

Don't worry Tom, you are about the only one of my neighbours NOT on my "list"

Considering you have a few BM player neighbours, me being one of them, I'm a tad scared :(

Terrans will complain regardless.

I mean, do you remember when people though of the muta "magic box"? Terran players were whining all over the forums "OMG, I NEED MORE THAN 1 THOR TO BEAT 20 MUTAS NOW! IMBA! FIX!"

BUT THEY ARE IMBA! :P

There's a map knocking around that gives you access to the HotS units. They use the wrong models, the animations are broken, there's probably a few balance changes not in there and likely doesn't have the right tech tree, but it gives you an idea of what the units will be like. I've found that leaving a Swarm Host near expansions (both yours and ones your opponents might take) is rather annoying: forces a little retreat when they attack your expansions if they don't have detectors giving you time to come down with some units and if your opponent isn't watching, it can cost them an expansion.

EDIT: Put Lurker instead of Swarm Host, silly me.

meh...
they are all losing money from regional gov... i'll need to scrap a lot of stuff around the home planet

My second main got it's regional government today. Brought in 2.4mil :P I put taxes down to 0% like someone (Vellos?) suggested and I can make more money due to the excess resources I'm making - just as long as someone buys them, that is.

I got myself another 5 planets in the centre of the galaxy today, those 5 were set up with 2 arcs each (back when arcs were 500 pop), so I decided to build an arc at each of those and take 5 more planets, plus sending one out from the existing planet there. Giving me a grand total of 12 planets in the centre of the galaxy in the next few turns :P

Also, slightly confused: One of my planets has Drilling Subsidies and Trade Incentives, it's selling Hydrocarbon for 93 per 1. Another planet has neither and is selling it for 91 per 1, despite having a lower stored amount and producing less. They both have the same tariff and tax rates. So does Trade Incentives up the price for hydrocarbons despite it being in great surplus?
