I think it is because Tom has the misfortune to be located next to some aggressive expanders.

Totally not me too...... I'm probably not going to expand to my east much soon. My friend who joined us up there needs a few more planets, so I said he could have the ones between mine and his territory. Whether I stick to that promise depends on how bored I get

Hopefully some of the trading changes will make maintaining your planets more of a focus.

Amen. I'd quite like to see planets change hands fairly frequently because of dissatisfaction, but then that doesn't play to the style of the game so it won't happen :P

Anyone noticed that fleets of the same ships can have different acceleration speeds? I've just seen an Arc with 0.335 acceleration, two of mine have 0.33, one at 0.324, eight at 0.325, with the rest on 0.35. Each of those speeds comes from a different planet. So perhaps planets have set speed modifiers they can apply to fleets? Perhaps based off society level?

EDIT: Seems so. Built an arc at a SL1 planet and got 0.251 acceleration. Built one at SL123 planet and got 0.35 (same speed for SL111 planet). Got varying speeds for planets in between. Next highest was 0.33 at SL80 planet, so I'm guessing it caps shortly after that? Educated guess would be maxing out at SL84, which is when food stops.

EDIT EDIT: A friend suggested (0.25 + soc/1000). Seems to fit for me, everyone else too?

Wow, just took a peek over at Tom's territory. Suddenly: ARCS! EVERYWHERE!

To be fair though, with the movement we DID get, it would have been a disaster anyways.

Weekends, 'nuff said :P

To be honest, if we'd have had everyone move at the same time, preferably in time for tomorrow morning's turn, we'd have had a good chance at breaking through the walls.

I'm just rather miffed as a player. We sit on our arses for weeks, then orders come at a silly time of night (I only just got them before going to bed), then we turn around (again at late notice). So now the foreseeable future is "sit on your arse, the battle will come". But Halicos is happy for now so y'know, no complaining from me :P

It is one turn from Candiels to Tower Fatmilak. What is causing the attacks in waves?

Because the mighty military genius in Vallyn decided to have one group of people run through Candiels and up to their northern regions, hoping the army would follow so the remainder could walk into Candiels. Then he decided that it should be a full day movement from The Tower to Candiels, despite even Halicos with his 6 hours a day and 140 archers could make it in a single turn.

To be fair, we needed something different so the first thing I can excuse. But a full turn move was silly.

However, with half our army dead, the other half over recruiting, I think we may be sitting on our arses for another month ¬¬

SM General Discussion / Re: Summon and Control

I think it's the effect level that you need. So if you have a summon with effect 3, you need a control of effect 3 or more to control it. 3 would be able to give it suggestions and it might do them. 4 would mean (almost) full control of it. Which means without a ritual, you can't properly control an effect 5 summon (which is fair enough, that's a fairly powerful beast).

My favorite mistake was planets that have hit 75 society level, but have rubbish population. Must have used those ones for arc-jumps early on.

Ahh, I've only started to do that recently, so I can expect some crap planets later on? Awesome >.< I didn't think they'd have a really low population though. By the time you can build an arc, you'd only be losing about 8% population, so it's not a great loss considering you get ~21% increase per turn.

Well technically... The war between SA and Caerwyn, Averoth, and Madina was a "World War" so far as Dwilight is concerned... a very one-sided one though.

Pardon, what? I don't remember that war :S

Oooo, Dave's fixed taxes. It now shows you the real production of your planet for your current tax rate.

Although to be honest, I don't see much point in setting things to less than 20%. The knock you get from is only 0.5% per 1% of tax rate. So 20% tax means you get 90% resource production. This is only really an issue for steel because everything else is in abundance, but 1k steel less for a massive increase in Quatloos income? I'll take that and just buy in the steel instead.

It might make a difference around the mid-80s, where you're about to start making a deficit of food.
Also makes a difference for colony jumping: building an arc from a planet as soon as you can. Means you get those few anti-matter you need later, so takes a few turns more to jump the arc around.

If there's one thing I've seen over the years with SC and SC2, it's that Blizzard works hard to make sure the races are balanced.

I'm not worried over a few early previews of units that won't even appear till next year.

Oh yeah, I have full confidence in Blizzard to balance it. I just wonder if they're balancing for the experienced players and that those of us who don't know all the best strategies or don't know all the best counters might just get totally screwed over by some of the new units because we don't know what we're doing.

That looks pretty nice.

My only concern is that the southern island looks a little bare. I know the desert is supposed to be bare which makes up a lot of the island, but it just seems lacking in some way.

Will there be cities/realm boarders/named things on the map? Or are those for us to make up as we go along?

Same, but haven't had much chance to play much / do multiplayer games yet (Few placement matches, then left). I would probably be pretty low in the league placement. So if you don't mind a casual gamer with just a basic understanding, sure, I'd be interest in playing sometimes :P Though I'm on the Europe server.

Not a problem, I'm not overly great myself :P I'm also on the Europe server :D

Since you're a Zerg player, any team your in can probably place quite well. Zerg tend to do quite well in team games because you can harass easily whilst your team mate builds up a decent attacking force.

The new units, I guess, will really depend on how it exactly works.

You seen the videos for the new units? Thread on them at Team Liquid. Shows how they work, but how they'll work in a real game is still anyone's guess.

I wonder how things will change with the expansion.

I'm not liking the new Zerg units. I already struggle to hold them off most of the time, now they get something to spawn units and run them into my base. <insert rage here>

And is this the Hierulf from Dave's Galaxy we're speaking to?

Aww, now we can't secretly plot to bring down his empire :(

EDIT: I'd also like to point you towards War Islands, a lovely turn based strategy game made by Tom. I think a lot of DG players might like it.

Figured I'd bring back this thread, see if people still play.

I play on request of my friends, mostly. Occasionally, I do get bored and wander into custom games for a night. Doesn't happen often though.

I've started doing the same. Custom games until friends come on. Currently unranked 1v1 (I've done 1 placement, got destroyed, cba with the others). Silver & Gold in 2v2, Gold in 3v3 (but being very carried...)

I'll gladly do some team games with you guys if anyone's up for it.
