Work in Progress / Creation Myth Chapter 2: Veins of the World
« on: December 28, 2017, 08:30:37 PM »
Heya all, I've put chapter 2 in but this can obviously be slotted in wherever.  Not sure what the cost of this would be, but happy to pay all 10 Purity if needed.

-----

Had she been more capable of thought, perhaps a better solution might have been found.  Had she been less-crippled, perhaps her effort would have gathered together all four of the...Elements...and restored them.

Perhaps.

But the agony of imbalance flaring through her was too great, her mind reeling as she writhed deep beneath the...Earth...and only three were brought together, bound with her own blood.  It was not the beauty, the eternal truth of Prime, but it soothed like a balm.

Fire, melting earth.  Earth, running like water.  Water, burning like fire.  And thus did the bones and body of the world gain veins [Create Lava, 3 Purity]+[Create Ore Veins, 3 Purity].  Hidden deep, far from the air.  And Quaranis wept in relief at the diminishment of her pain.  Her tears scattered throughout the veins [Create Gemstones, 1 Purity] as she wept for an unguessable time, lending their brittle beauty to the new blood of the world.

For a time, that was enough.

For a time.

Quaranis woke in dismay.  She knew not why, but the balance was wrong.  Wrong.  Wrong.

Wrong

Her senses flailed, desperate.  And recoiled in horror as they saw.  Prime had been split.  These...Elements were in disarray, with no unity.  No connection.  No balance.

Half-crippled in agony, Quaranis fitfully began reaching out, blindly groping to reform the balance...

I see Doc is in the list, but frankly the other characters in House Primus were pretty important too. Doc's Revenge and Lady Doc's Biatch both had some pretty impressive history.

Queen Armitage III of Abington and Xuanye the Great (General of Abington who let it keep going far longer than I ever would have believed possible).

I would contend Conan McGahee, the FEI ended up turning up under Jenred's sway but several times it was a hairsbreadth from being Conan's.

Velax of FEI was the first crowned head of an entire continent (excepting the War Islands, and the honorary First Emperor title Jenred was retroactively given).

OK, were trying to reduce effectiveness, not utterly overturn things. Militia is still about the only way that small realms can defend against big ones.

As with most things, have it scale by size of the realm.  Smaller realms could support a higher percentage of their total mobile force as militia than large realms.

Alternatively:

Militia are peasant soldiers not under a noble's direct control.  If they outnumber the main army (or even are a significant fraction of the army), wouldn't they start getting ideas?  Like, they should be the ones in charge?  So if your mobile army is 20K, then 5K militia can be kept under control relatively easily, but 10K starts getting restless, and 20K is insanity as you are outright risking a peasant revolution?

Everything looks normal for me.

I can confirm that with a level 3 temple, auto da fe works just fine on a Pagan lord.  (grins) I've always wanted to do one of those, and never had the right excuse...

I don't see how a pantheon relates to the fantasy quotient... It's not like the middle ages wouldn't have come about with a polytheistic religion rather than a monotheistic one...

The idea was that there would be an actual, real, game-mechanic existing pantheon that actually did things.  That significantly would have upped the fantasy quotient seven or eight years back.  These days?  Not so much.

Alternatively, I recall something being bandied about about actually having a pantheon, and then people would have differently religions interpreting the will of the gods that absolutely existed, or supporting one instead of others and the like.  I didn't like it before, but with the vast increase in the fantasy quotient after the last few Invasions, it might be appropriate.

Aha, I can at least test the level three temple.

As for pagans not being evil, I'm aware that I might consider them variant, but there are not nearly enough reasons to stop being pagan at the moment.

I'm certain I'm missing something here, but I would expect to be able to Auto da fe a Pagan who has an estate in a region with 95% of the population faithful to my religion.  Somehow, I am not, and the only two things I can think of are:

1. Can't Auto da fe Pagans (which seems unintended, I would imagine you should be able to do anything to Pagans that you could do to those you found evil).
2. Can't Auto da fe Lords (which I could possibly see, but the wiki is ambiguous, as it says that the noble will lose "any landed titles they may have").

Region is Arempos, character Elcalyn, desired target is Anastasia Von Borghoff (who does have an estate in the region).

Thoughts?

In all honesty, they are way too powerful at the moment.  I'm not sure what the best way to balance them is, but it's more than a little crazy now.

Just saw that the disband and weekly pay for the citizen militia is effectively non-existent, is this intentional or a bug?  1 gold to disband each unit, and 0 weekly pay showing.

Or join Ikalak and/or Sandalak and constantly sabotage one or the other in the pursuit of a reborn Taselak.

But you're assuming Taselak is done.  At the rate Ikalak's TO is progressing, I think that's an interesting assumption.
