Other Games / Re: Sign up for a CK2 multiplayer game!
« on: May 18, 2013, 06:52:35 PM »
I don't mean to hijack the thread (at least not for long), but I just bought CK2 yesterday since the game and dlc are on sale on Amazon and can be redeemed through Steam.

Anyone have any suggestions for ways to start playing or guides to watch/read to get me acquainted? Or is it best just to jump in?

I'd recommend just jumping in. I started and quit 3 or 4 games before I had a game I played through. Playing as the boy King of France was my first good game. The CK2 wiki is helpful to learn while playing. For me, it was the simplest of the choices between V2, EU3, and HOI3.

That was my experience there as well; hence why my character their emigrated. Seemed to have a pretty strong OOC clique; like Eston before the Treaty of Hawthorne.

Out of curiosity, what gave you this impression? As I recall, Onamont got the first Lordship that came available despite being fairly new to the realm because of the services he rendered as an adventurer.

There isn't and hasn't been an OOC group in Kindara. I was there from day one. Alpha had a part in probably every decision that was made in the almost 3 years of Kindara's existence, so if such a group was present I would know. The ruling council has typically been closely knit, but changes when council members are replaced.

Arriving next turn. Probably going to join Fronen or Nothoi.

But part of that might be down to the fact that Kindara seems to follow a policy of OOC excluding people they don't like.

Nothing OOC about it. Malos' outbursts against high ranking nobles didn't much help his cause. You picked a hard road with Malos, being a foreign priest in the heart of, potentially, the biggest and most active religion on the island.

Any realms need some new nobles?

How would you miss out on the war? You've got Ulear!

Double the battles, double the fun.

I'm a bit shocked honestly. I never thought I'd see Alpha die.  :'(

I'm a little disappointed. I didn't really expect that battle to go that badly. I'll probably start another character in Kindara before too long. I don't want to miss out on the war.

I hope Alpha's bonds revert back to the realm. If so, I'd say Edmund will be getting a pretty big tax day.

I hadn't expected Elk to assign militia in Palanos. That pretty much removed any chance of victory there.

I'm somewhat surprised Alpha hadn't been killed before now. I started him in 2005, with about a 6 month break between then and now, and played as a hero for the whole time. Last hero I remember being killed was Senoske, which was right after I started back in 2008/09, I think.

Set up Anti-Pope.
Get rich.
Watch as the Christian World falls to Heresies and Islam.
Claim innocence.

This is typically my strategy

Son of...I am planning on making Benedict a Cavalier but that is going to suck.

Well, on the upside, Velax does get to lead pretty much of a whole RC of elite cavalry.

So...

This war is pretty tense so far. The Imperial North has smashed the Southern Coalition quite nicely, especially in Aenilia, but, the arrival of winter will probably benefit the southerners much more. What are the predictions?

I think what happens in winter will depend pretty heavily on the next battle of Paplarmi.

I've been wanting to join Corsanctum for a good long while. I can't say I'm heading there now, but I will be soon enough. Nireus, if you have the will, I'd be down to try and revitalize the realm with you. Ofc everything will have to happen IG, but I've been planning this for a while.

I joined today. I hope something gets started.

They've been ineffective for us. I've considered having Edmund bring up the idea of changing them to quarterly in the past, or dropping them altogether, but I always get distracted by something else whenever I do think of it. In the middle of all the mess happening now doesn't seem the best time either.

When I added monthly elections for High Lord, we had something like 40-50 players, some playing multiple characters, in Kindara. There is about half that number now, I don't think we'd lose anything by going to quarterly elections.

It made me wonder how many "holy lances" were found without history ever mentioning them because of the utter failure of the suicide charge.

This holy lance only had one charge left when found, apparently.

The success at Antioch was too much for Peter Bartholomew's skeptics. Peter's visions were far too convenient and too martial, and he was openly accused of lying. Challenged, Peter offered to undergo ordeal by fire to prove that he was divinely guided. Being in Biblical lands, they chose a Biblical ordeal: Peter would pass through a fiery furnace and would be protected by an angel of God. The crusaders constructed a path between walls of flame; Peter would walk down the path between the flames. He did so, and was horribly burned. He died after suffering in agony for twelve days. There was no more said about the Holy Lance, although one faction continued to hold that Peter was genuine and that this was indeed the true Lance.

Helpline / Re: Zombie Duke?

It happened in Kindara with the Duchess of Osaliel, who was also royal. We didn't have an infiltrator, and or a significant enough majority religion, so we were just stuck with it. We managed to get it back, and then lost it again a turn after we took it. Making matters even worse, there was no one to appoint a lord for Sozon. So we had well over 1000 bushels of food rotting, due to too few warehouses, while the neighboring city was starving.

And the IR strikes again!

Starving your region isn't protected by IR.
