BM General Discussion / How old is Battlemaster?
January 01, 2013, 06:28:49 PM
On the Announcement page Tom said:

QuoteDepending on your time zone, the new year will/has start soon/already.

On BM time, it is about 2 hours until the game turns 13. It was launched on January 1st, 2001 at 01:01.

Have a good New Year celebration all of you. I (Tom) will be away to celebrate now. See you all in 2013.

If BM was launched 1/1/2001, wouldn't that make it 12, rather than 13?

Feature Requests / Ability to establish funds
December 25, 2012, 03:26:44 PM
Title: Establishment of funds

Summary: Allow nobles to split their gold and bonds into several different funds. When paying your troops, sending gold to other nobles, etc, you can choose which fund that gold comes from.

Details: As a ruler, sponsor and marshal, I have multiple responsibilities and it would be extremely convenient if I could split up my gold/bonds into different funds for these responsibilities. For example, I would have:

1) A day-to-day fund for paying my troops, training, etc.
2) An army fund for gold that will be sent to army members to help them recruit and pay their troops.
3) A sponsor fund for when the warchest needs refilling.
4) An emergency fund for dire situations, such as when the realm is invaded.

Other funds could include one for purchasing food, or Academy training.

Funds could be set up - and gold transferred between funds - at a bank. When doing actions that require gold or bonds, such as paying your troops, sending gold to nobles, buying food, etc, you would choose which fund you wish to use for this purpose.

While you can have virtual funds at the moment by deciding where you will spend your gold, the ability to have actual funds would make this so much easier. I would love to just be able to have a separate fund for a specific purpose and transfer gold into it so it's not spent on something else.

Benefits: Convenience and improved organisational abilities.

Possible Exploits: None that I can see.

Helpline / Building palaces
December 11, 2012, 03:55:25 AM
Does the option to build a palace randomly appear for rulers, like recruiting volunteers or moving the family home for Heroes? Does the option only appear in the capital? And will the option appear if a previous ruler already built a palace in that city?

I'm posting this here because a person has OOC accused me of violating the Inalienable Rights, which I do not believe I have. I'm heartily sick of people thinking the IRs allow them to do whatever the hell they want, whenever the hell they want with no consequences, so I'm asking for opinions / a judgement on this.

My character - we'll call him Peter - is the ruler of realm X. Another character - let's say, John - has been in the realm for 57 days. During that time, John has done little beyond sitting in the capital. John has not recruited a unit, nor sent any messages to the realm, nor engaged with the realm at all. Peter has never seen John move out of the capital. Peter has sent multiple messages to John, asking him what his intentions are, asking him if he's going to actually engage with the realm, etc. John has not responded.

Eventually Peter had John banned, giving the following explanation:

QuoteMore specifically, "John" has been banned for doing nothing but sitting in the capital for the last two months, draining X's gold. He has refused to recruit a unit, refused to respond to any messages and refused to contribute anything whatsoever to this realm. We do not tolerate such behavior.

A different player (not the player of Peter or John) then sent an OOC message stating this broke two Inalienable Rights:

Quote"sitting in the capital for the last two months," -> activity is protected under inalienable rights.

"He has refused to recruit a unit," -> unit recruitment + class are also protected under inalienable rights.

"refused to respond to any messages and refused to contribute anything whatsoever to this realm." ->

How much someone contributes is both a matter of opinion, and also arguably connected to activity, and therefore protected under inalienable rights.

I would like some sort of judgement on this, please, as I am tired of these sorts of messages from people who do not understand the IRs properly.

Helpline / Full realm name
November 26, 2012, 06:20:17 AM
In the Government options as a ruler, it's possible to change the "full name" of a realm. Where does this full name appear in-game?

BM General Discussion / Acronyms
November 22, 2012, 05:43:47 PM
I've been wondering, did they use acronyms in medieval times? I see people using acronyms for army names, or IC referring to "SA" on Dwilight, and it doesn't strike me as at all medieval. But I have no specific knowledge to back up that feeling.

Helpline / Two Government characters on the same island
November 21, 2012, 05:53:33 AM
From what I understand, you cannot have two different characters with a Government position on the same island. But I remember hearing a while ago that there was an exception to that rule. What is it? It is secession? For instance, if you have a Duke and secede, he can be a ruler even if you already have a Judge, say, in another realm on that island. Is that the case?

(PS: Don't worry, Edmund, this isn't about Hatdhes! :P)

Helpline / Preferred Entertainment
November 18, 2012, 06:16:23 PM
In my experience, there tends to be one specific type of Entertainment that a unit prefers (dance hall, brewery, rough bar, brothels, whatever). By visiting that type of Entertainment, you can gain a considerable bonus to Cohesion as well as Morale. When you find the right type, the "Your men like this type of Entertainment" message appears next to that type whenever you click the Entertainment option in the future.

But is it possible to have a unit that prefers none of the Entertainment types? My ruler character with a cavalry unit has tried each type of entertainment a half dozen times over the last several months, and cannot find one his troops like to get that Cohesion bonus.

Helpline / "Freeman" means nothing?
November 06, 2012, 03:13:35 AM
When an Advy first starts out, he's an Outlaw and can be executed by any realm at will. But I was under the impression that once an Advy had earned enough Honour/Prestige/Whatever, he becomes a Freeman and can no longer be immediately executed. He must first be banned and then executed. But the dev responses to this bug report would seem to indicate otherwise:

http://bugs.battlemaster.org/view.php?id=7417

So, Freeman can be executed without needing a ban?

Helpline / Subclasses and troop limits
October 30, 2012, 05:12:44 AM
One of my characters was a Cavalier and led about 80 cavalry troops. I wanted to go back to being a normal Warrior with no subclass, so I clicked that option under Actions. I knew I had too many troops for that to work but figured it would tell me how many I'd need to drop (like it does when you are switching to Diplomat or Courtier).

But it worked. I still have my 80 cavalry even though the Military Advisor says as a Warrior with no subclass I can only lead ~55. Is this intended, or a bug?

Feature Requests / Region links in the Character List
October 16, 2012, 03:20:25 PM
Title: Region links in Character List

Summary: The Character List lists the region that each noble is currently in. I propose to add a link to that region's information page. So if the Character List said a noble was in Orbeh, you could click the Orbeh link to take you to the region's information page.

Benefits: Convenience, mainly. If I wanted to find out which army a noble is in, for example, I could click the Character List, find her name and click the region she's in, taking me to the info page which will show her army's icon next to her unit (assuming she has a unit).

Possible Exploits: None.

Development / Statues
October 16, 2012, 02:59:37 PM
When statues are implemented, will it be possible to build statues to paused (not deleted) nobles? There is at least one paused noble I would like to have a statue built to, and another who is pausing soon that deserves one.

Helpline / Delay arrival not working
October 14, 2012, 08:31:40 PM
Is the Delay Arrival option not working for anyone else? I click it and when the page refreshes, the "Delay arrival" option is still there, rather than the "Cancel delay arrival" option that should be there.

Edit: Definite bug. When I click Delay Arrival the first time, the option continues to appear but the option to turn my unit around disappears. I'll post it to the Bugtracker.

BM General Discussion / Can't see stats or tables
October 11, 2012, 08:16:12 PM
Anyone else noticed the Character List tables are different? The blue table is gone and it all just appears to be text on a black screen that can't be ordered. And when I go to Realm/World/etc Stats, no graphs come up.

Helpline / Looting
October 09, 2012, 06:27:12 PM
Has the looting code been changed to make it harder to drive regions rogue? We've had 16,000 - 18,000 CS sitting in a region for two days pillaging and marauding, stealing food and stealing gold. Morale and Production are in the toilet, but Control and Loyalty haven't dropped below Core and Worshipful. No peasant militias have formed, whereas normally we'd get them on the first turn of looting, the second at the latest.

Helpline / Ruler bonus to region Morale and Loyalty
October 08, 2012, 04:35:27 AM
In the old system, a ruler's presence helped increase a region's Morale and Loyalty each sunrise. The bonus was larger in Monarchies than in Republics.

As rulers no longer receive all the region reports, I can't tell if this is still the case. Is it?
#59
With the new system it is possible for a ruler to appoint a Duke that is not also the Margrave of the city, or the Lord of any region. But there is little reason for the ruler to do so (aside from creating another position to give to someone) and one very big reason not to: it significantly reduces the ruler's own income.

If the Duke is also the Margrave of the city, then the ruler's share of the taxes comes from both the Duchy share and the entire Lord's share of the city. If the Duke is not the Lord of a region, the ruler's share comes from only the Ducal share, which is considerably less.

BM General Discussion / Rogue Judges
October 06, 2012, 08:06:55 PM
I have seen a few instances where Judges of realms have been secretly working for / spying for another realm, and when found out have banned as many nobles as they could get their hands on before leaving the realm. Most recently this happened in Cathay on FEI, where the Judge was found to be a spy for an enemy realm and apparently banned half a dozen or more nobles before leaving.

This has always seemed rather lame and almost an abuse to me, as really, once a noble has been discovered as a traitor, who is going to listen to them, Judge or not? Who's going to enforce these bans issued by a traitor? What are other people's opinions on this?
