Helpline / Realm Government Power Level
« on: March 04, 2013, 12:37:26 AM »
What is it and what does it do/mean? Does having a strong/balanced/weak power level for one of the government positions mean anything? Does it effect votes? Options available?

BM General Discussion / Why Do You Play?
« on: February 10, 2013, 09:43:25 AM »
Another question I was wondering was why do you play BattleMaster? When I first started I heard about guys who've been playing since the beginning. That was five years ago almost which means if those guys are still around they've been playing for more than a decade. Why?

What do you get out of BattleMaster? What do you put into it?

Why do you play?

BM General Discussion / Sea Routes = is the World Round or Flat?
« on: February 10, 2013, 09:40:52 AM »
I've never used the sea routes before (I can't swim  ;)) but a question occurred to me: If I got on a boat in Flowrestown and went east would I end up in Echiur? If I got on a boat in Madina and went south would I end up in Valkyrja?

Is the world flat or round?

BM General Discussion / Exile - Last Ditch Effort or Self Infliction?
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:21:49 AM »
So the Ruler of my realm just exiled a Duke for very good reasons, and this message came up:

Quote
Noble exiled   (4 hours, 52 minutes ago)
****, **** of ****l has exiled ****, Duke of ****, Viscount of **** from the realm!
As a consequence, **** can no longer use most of the realms infrastructure, however he retains all titles and is still a member of the realm unless he leaves.
**** is, if you want to see it that way, engaging in a power contest with a hated enemy here. The longer **** can stay in the realm despite being exiled, the more honour and prestige **** will lose.

How is this option in anyway worthwhile? I thought exile was a way to remove Duke's not to injure oneself in the long run. Where does any of that say it is a bad thing for the guy getting exiled? He retains all titles and is still a member of the realm? Why bother, is my question?

Does the exiled person suffer any real consequences or can they just tramp around as a nuisance for as long as they feel like causing a steady decrease in the Ruler's stats?

I (Ironsides) am submitting this on behalf of another player who played the former judge of Swordfell during the scandal. Here's what he wanted me to post...

Hi,

I am sending this to complain about another' player's OOC behaviour.

His account details are:
Real Name:   Kyle Douglass
User ID:  32986
e-mail:   T-dot-sunamcm-at-gmail-dot-com

My account details are:
Real Name:   Ulysses
User ID:  33466
e-mail:    odisseasnearxos-at-gmail-dot-com

One important rule is that you either contact the Titans, or you don't. Do not threaten other players with them. We have issued temporary account locks for people who said things like "do this or I'll bring you up to the Titans".

The player Kyle Douglass has violated the above rule many times. I was able only to find 3 of the occasions. Two messages send to another player. And one message send in public.
After that one more player picked it up. I think that something must be done to put an end to this. He is ruining the game for everyone else.

The messages are send from the character below, belonging the player of Kyle Douglass.

I shall not just rest my case. It is an inalienable right of every noble to be able to choose their class at will. Press the issue, and I will contact the titans.

I am happy to step down, but not at this expense.

You need to learn manners. You have overstepped your bounds Lord Ironsides, do not push further.

((Ooc: seriously, why are you forcing a matter that breaks one of the fundamental rules of the game? I don't want this to escalate, just go with the plan as it was, the realm doesn't need this mate))

Sevastian Guile
Grandmaster of Swordfell
Duke of The Courts of Stone
Viscount of Balance's Retreat

One more statement like that, and I will not hesitate to take this matter to the titans, Lord Ironsides.

Your impatience and poor attitude are unbecoming of someone supposed to lead.

Grandmaster of Swordfell
Duke of The Courts of Stone
Viscount of Balance's Retreat

Message sent to everyone in your realm (12 recipients)
Lord Irosnsides,

You have pushed too far. I have already explained at length the reasons why I am not immediately stepping down. I suggest you rethink your course of action.

((Ooc: alright, that's it. I've got the damned flu to wake up to this crap? I'm reporting this to the titans. You are a fool mate. I've been beyond kind over this, and I've tried coming up with alternative solutions.

I can share the entire correspondence if anyone cares to read it, but it boils down to this:

Stepping down immediately after creating a realm leads to a huge hit to H/P, that hit would make my character changing classes impossible. We had a plan laid out that took this into consideration and even players from Morek have commented that we should press ahead with it. The player of Bowie has suddenly become impatient and is trying to force me into a situation that breaks the inalienable rights. A thing I flat out refuse to do.))

Grandmaster of Swordfell
Duke of The Courts of Stone
Margrave of Balance's Retreat

Thank you for your attention.

Helpline / Laaggggg
« on: November 02, 2012, 03:33:37 AM »
Is it just me or is the site taking an unusually long time to load now? I noticed this maybe a day or two ago; that changing characters, or sending letters, or loading other screens in the game take a really long time to load up. I find myself tabbing to other sites while I'm waiting. It can't be my computer/internet because everything else works fine. Except BM.

Anyone else noticed the lag too?

Helpline / Trading Skill, Hang on now Mr. Lock and Key
« on: May 21, 2012, 07:32:53 PM »

Right, but the fact that no one has any idea about their skills until they find out they don't have the skill to do something seems harmful to the experience. Skills have no presence until you lose them or find out you're not skilled enough. Academy's aren't worth the time or gold, and skills aren't making the game experience any more fun. Who pays attention to them? Who invests in them? Why have them?

Helpline / Trading Skill
« on: May 17, 2012, 03:20:55 AM »

I have noticed that my trader character has lost some distance when visiting the marketplace. Last time he was able to see a bit over 600 miles but now only 542. The time between my current visit and the last time I was at the marketplace was about a weekish. I have never seen it deplete that much that fast before (or ever).

What are the parameters for the trading skill? How do I get it to increase? How does it decrease? Can I train it at an academy?

Also, since I am on the subject, why even have a trading skill? It seems a bit aggravating considering it effects the distance a trader has when brokering deals at the marketplace. I find it an obstacle to being a trader (not in a good way. It does not improve the class at all).

Someone with greater knowledge on the trader skill please explain it to me. Or, if you agree that it is unhelpful join in!

Development / Better Trading = More Fun Trader Class
« on: September 13, 2011, 01:23:44 AM »
I played my character on Dwilight as a trader for a little while but had to stop because there was nothing to trade. Everyone wants food but no one wants to give it up. Therefore, being a trader was useless unless I stole from the black market. The trading class should be revamped to be more fun and dynamic. It has a lot of potential for traveling and contact/relationship building and the lure of easy wealth. There are very few active traders as far as I am aware because of this limp class.

Any thoughts? Maybe trade in diamonds/silks or other luxury goods? Potential for wealth and prominence?

I remember an attempt to bring more trading goods to the game like wood and stone or something, what happened to that?

Wiki / Wiki Tables
« on: August 21, 2011, 08:10:46 AM »
Hello everyone.

I'm trying to design tables for the new dueling sport "Convocation of the Sword" on Dwilight (come join, it's fun!) but all my tests have turned out wretched. My simple score board sort of works/looks nice. I'd like to design a table for the teams. It should have one header column that says "Team Such Such," then I wanted the next column to be split in half beneath the first full sized column. I can't seem to have one complete column above two smaller half columns. Beneath the two half columns I want to put in a list of the team members. I'll add in colour after too, if I can get the thing to look right.

I've been trying a variety of things off this: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Table, but my attempts aren't working properly.

Anyone able to help out? Much appreciated.

Dwilight / The Dwilight University
« on: April 15, 2011, 08:54:12 AM »
Its one of my most favourite things about the whole game (in case you aren't aware my character is an active Dean of History). How come no one else sees it/uses it for the potential it has? Outside of a few once-in-a-whiles the University is sadly quiet. Military Studies or Arts alone I figured would be competitive.

What do you think, team?

Feature Requests / "Convert" Nobles to Secret Society
« on: March 07, 2011, 06:10:11 AM »
This was a feature request I gave to Ethan a long while ago to propose on the D-List, I'm not sure how far it went but I would like to raise it again.

Basically, the idea is to allow for high ranking members of a secret society to invite other nobles to join without having them travel to the guildhouse. It would work exactly the same way a priest can convert a noble with a private sermon, except with the obvious alterations. This would be a major change to secret societies especially when the two nobles are in enemy realms. What excuse could they possibly have to get to their enemy's capital, but if the two were to know where their armies were going to clash it would be that much simpler to send an invitation.

Here is the actual Feature Request, you may have already seen it a year or more ago...

Feature Request: Invitation to Secret Society Without Nearby Gathering Place

Summary: Remove the joining restriction on secret societies.

Detail: As a priest can convert nobles through private sermons, so to should a senior member invite a noble into their secret society. This would be done without the need of a nearby gathering place, but the two must be in the same region. The gathering place would still be required for the amount of nobles the society is allowed to have and for treasury purposes.

Why:

If a noble is invited to join a secret society, but the only gathering place is in the enemy realm’s capital, it is impossible to justify a reason for that noble to travel to the capital. Allowing a senior member of the society the ability to invite nobles without a nearby gathering place removes a crucial obstacle in spreading the society. While guilds function through public buildings, secret societies should function privately in this way.

Easy to implement?
