Dwilight / An Ironsides Among Us
« on: April 01, 2016, 03:19:43 PM »
Hello friends!

I thought today would be an appropriate day for a reveal (in the spirit of tradition of course) - I've been playing a new family for the last seven months but I haven't told anyone it was me yet. I wont reveal the family name or which realm I serve but I will say that I am definitely on Dwilight (my favourite continent).

So! See if you can seek me out. Winner will receive 10% of the gold I am currently carrying and get an invitation to a newish secret society I've been tinkering with  8)

Game on!

Your friendly neighbourhood Ironsides,

I may lurk the forum now and then, but I have no intention on recreating my family nor creating a new one. I've been entertaining the thought of leaving BM for maybe two years now, and I did deleted most of my characters and pause my last one at one point, but I finally deleted my account this time.

I haven't had any fun playing BM in far too long. The people I enjoyed playing with are long gone, the people who replaced them I don't enjoy playing with. BM's culture has shifted and there is very little left of the team spirit that existed back when I joined in 2006. Without wishing to overglorify some of the attitudes of 2006, feels to me like the balance was achieved around 2009 and then from there things just started spiraling out of control.

BM is decaying. The playerbase is dwindling, and none of the desperate measures taken have succeeded (if anything they may have made things worse). There is no reason to believe that this downwards trend will do anything but continue. I therefore see very little reason to ever come back... the problems are with the community, but also structural. BM was designed for lots of players, and with the densities we are reaching, a lot of things are breaking down. I've never been so bored by military conflicts.

This.

Happy April Fools everyone!

Love, the Ironsides Family ❤️

Thanks everyone!

Please tell me all about the freezing, the shakeups, and Jonsu's theological coup! Is anything left of SA?

You thought my Ironsides Family was dead and gone?

APRIL FOOLS!

We're back! Although I am still really busy with work and life etc, but I am going to try to play at least one character because I really miss BM. His name is Vernal, he is a young noble who just began his career in Swordfell (of course). Let's see where the game takes him!

What have I missed over the passed six months? How are my old friends and enemies?

Shared across the streets of the capital were rumours of a strange sound coming from Castle Ironsides. For those who worked in the castle and stood at just the right spot above the cellar, deep below the stone thick walls, a muffled thud repeated rhythmically...thud. Thud. Thud. THUD. THUD. THUD. Thud. Thud. Thud....The sound was heard for the better part of seven days. The origin was never discovered...largely due to lack of investigation and instead the rampant spread of superstition and rumour. By the ninth day, the thuds were heard less frequently and softer. thud thud. thud thud. thud.....thud....thud thud....Folk assumed it was a nest of rats feeding on themselves for some reason. That was the alternative view for those who refused to believe in the spirits of the beyond realm. Stranger still was the disappearance of Duke Bowie, last seen at the fitting session for his new ambassador robes. Most assumed a Lurian assassin got him before he could negotiate a military alliance with the Morek Empire and D'Hara that involved Swordfell.

Nobody thought to put the two rumours together.

And then, by means of pure survival and insane panic, a thin, elderly, filthy man clawed his way out of the dirt beneath a fish stand in the market of Balance's Retreat. Quickly the man was identified as Bowie Ironsides, Duke of Balance's Retreat and Ambassador of Swordfell! The news ignited the continent of this strange but spectacular feat of triumph. The truth of all rumours literally surfaced for its life!

And now the story on the street is that Bowie, the Damned Demonic Duke, visited the wine cellar of his Castle and was trapped when the cellar caved in. He survived solely by emptying wine barrels into his stomach and digging a tunnel upwards - using nothing but his hands. Guards traced the route he haphazardly created from the market to beneath the castle and estimated a total of eighty-nine feet long and ascending sixteen feet in depth.

It is said that when he pulled his whole body out of the ground and after he caught his breath, the first words from his mouth were, 'why the hell didn't anybody look for me!?"

It seemed to him that if he ever disappeared for real, few people would notice.

(OOC: I was gone from the game for over a week and Bowie was dislodged from all his positions. When I finally returned to log back in this was my in game answer for his absence :p )

Sadly the great Pierre Von Genf has died in battle against the Lurians while defending his capital, Qubel Lighthouse. The particular man responsible for his death is Aldrakar Renodin, the Imperial Marshal of Luria Nova. Nobles all over Dwilight mourn over the great loss, albeit no time is wasted getting back to business as well as his duties now need to be fulfilled with his absence.

Nooo! Not von Genf! *Grief

This is the text I see when I am in Qubel Lighthouse (the capital of D'Hara, playing as my character Bowie Ironsides):

Quote
Bank visit - you are not in a city or the capital of your realm, where banks accepting your bonds would be.

I thought that because it was a stronghold that it would not have bank access (even though it is a capital) and so I went to Port Raviel, but was restricted there too.

My character went to the capital of the other realm but was denied access (saying that the bank was not a capital and that I couldnt use it because I was a foreigner), bug?

What is the easiest way to send gold from a character in one realm to a character in another realm? Can my character go to a bank and send gold to anyone, or does he have to use another method: Guild? Through the rulers? Person to person (can we do that?)

I feel  like I'm the only one who thinks closing the local boards is a bad idea. They're the only place that I feel gives a sense of the continent evolving around your realm. Without that, realms might as well be singular islands to me that merge when there's a war and then quickly separate again afterward. It also give's a very, for lack of a better metaphor, "bar-top" feel where people discuss the events going on in a (sometimes) objective way...

This here is why guilds are so cool, they cross realm boundaries (even during war times) :)

I learned my lesson after the first time...not saying Bowie wouldn't welcome Jonsu to Swordfell, but there definitely will be friction!

I'm glad he met the end you wanted for him. Armstrong was a great, well-drawn character and he deserved to go out in the style you wanted.

If we can get his body back from Nivemus, the CoH will lay him to rest in the Sacred Order of Battle in Morshes, as per his wishes. Thomas has given him a full pardon and decreed that Armstrong will be entombed with all honours due to a fallen king. His weapons, armour, and the flag and crown of Fane will be placed in the tomb with him. Let the bards make him into a legend.

All hail Armstrong, the once and future king!  ;)

Burial in Morshes would please Armstrong very much! Let me know if there are any RPs so I can collect them :)

Nivemus will gladly deliver his body with full respect given to the man. Let us know IC? 8)

By the way, do anyone calculate how long Fane realm is created until its demise?

Let's see, it lasted from June 3rd to July 13th, so a little over one month-ish.

Hear ye, hear ye, the King of Fane is dead!

Duel Death   (16 hours, 29 minutes ago)
Armstrong has suffered a fatal blow in a duel against Malakai. He died quickly.

Duel   (16 hours, 29 minutes ago)
Armstrong Ironsides, King of Fane, Royal of Fane, Duke of Oligarch meets his challenger Sir Malakai Wolf, Legodos of Nivemus, Baron of Caqueta, Marshal of High Guard for the agreed duel till death.
Malakai has decided to use the 'trick moves' strategy while Armstrong has chosen the 'overrun' strategy, giving Malakai the advantage.
The duel goes as planned, then badly for Armstrong. He suffers several slight wounds, then a final, fatal blow. The healers hurry, but they are too late.
Malakai, although the winner, has also suffered a light wound.

That is by far the absolute greatest conclusion to any character I have ever played in BattleMaster. I have to give complete credit to the player of Malakai Wolf for his patience in all of the trouble that Armstrong went through after the loss of Fane. You guys have no idea how long we've been trying to have this duel, and it ended exactly the way I prayed it would!

Armstrong never had any last words, but if he spoke before bleeding out from the wound he would say this "By the ashes of my fathers and the temple of my God, I say, Glory Be..."

All hail the Fallen King!
