BM General Discussion / Re: Rethink the roleplay forum

So, wiki material then. Thank you.

Considering how many I've seen it might be smart to point out that death or end of character roleplays belong on the wiki or just point out that you are enforcing the guidelines word for word without exception to cover all cases.

Or heck, I suppose it reads that clear enough anyway. I was stuck on the family history part obviously being wiki while thinking character end/death could be wiki, but could be roleplay. So, nevermind I suppose.

Those seem like fair guidelines.

Would death roleplay been considered a part of a shared, in-game roleplay or wiki material?. Obviously in many cases it won't be possible to post it in game, but it could still read as a roleplay that would have been posted in game.

1) Make more moderators. At least 2-3 different people have expressed an interest in moderating some or all of the local boards, and I'm sure we can come up with more, especially if it's made clear that no Local board will be reopened without at least one dedicated, active moderator.

I think the general consensus in that thread about moderation (and throughout all of these other threads) more or less said the same thing. Just about everyone here is willing to see more effective moderation in place. If people are willing to moderate, let them, set a bunch of guidelines, and enforce them. If you cut down on the jerks being jerks, things would settle down into a more friendly state of affairs and would clean up the problem areas, I think.

And honestly, right now, these forums feel way more toxic to me than they ever did because of this whole ForumMaster debacle and, specifically, the way you, Tom, are treating everyone defending the forums while trying to sort out this issue.

It happened because the "player" actions made it happen.

Europe has, historically, also not been populated by a race of immortals with dynasties that are controlled by a single immortal being with a solid agenda that can span generations i.e the player. As Anaris said, there were barbarian invasions. There were also plagues that formed within or came from beyond, other foreign invaders, natural disasters, and plenty of other complicated reasons that resulted in drastic power fluctuations that cannot be replicated in BM. BM, or Atamara in this case, is not Europe and is not subject to the same conditions real life Europe is subject too.

I'm not arguing for or against any change at this point, but while I agree that players can force some change, if you are going to claim BM history is like real history, then you can't ignore that there was plenty of outside change that influenced how Europe's map was drawn over the centuries.

Fine, fine. They seemed tied together so I didn't think it'd hurt.

Awesome idea! As an addition, what about Duchy signs that auto post a welcome message to the Duchy in the way the realm signs currently do when you cross into another realm's borders?

Far East Island / Re: FEI Adventurers

I'm probably just unlucky.

I've noticed Velax likes to make use of advy's here and there, so I'm not surprised. He sent one or two down our way on various tasks when I was High Lord. That's one of the reasons why I thought FEI might be fun since I was hoping I might eventually run into some nobles willing to engage my advy for services.

I choose FEI, Atamara, and Dwilight.

FEI because I think there is a fantastic diversity of cultures and realms paired with players that genuinely make the game interesting.

Atamara because, while I don't care to play there anymore, I think there is potential for something interesting there.

Dwilight because, while it hasnt always worked for me, the sheer diversity and opportunities that could be had there seem to be worth holding onto. Plus it works nicely for a testing island.

Why not?  :)

My only other character currently is on Far East Island and I know many of the noble characters, most realm cultures, and geography well enough to understand where my adventurer is in reference to other things that are happening. It gives more depth to the adventurer game for me, I suppose.

Far East Island / FEI Adventurers

I decided to try the adventurer game again and play it super lightweight with a little roleplay in there for fun. I spawned in Cathay and have been in Ansopen killing undead, sending the links for the groups I didnt kill out with roleplays, and collecting baubles so far.

I've seen one adventurer nearby, but I was wondering who else is out there!

I was also wondering if it's still possible to find bedrolls. I found them really fast last time I played adventurer, but havent had any luck so far, so I'm just sleeping on floors.

Forum can only represent those of us who choose to come on here. Can their be a IG message sent to everyone regarding the closing of a island or islands. It would be good to inform them of this conversation, I think all the players should be made aware of the gravity of that can affect them.

That's a good idea. Even if a decision has been reached, putting a message on the login screen or something would at least let people read up on what's happening.

Way to single out the one thing you agreed with, because right under that he says this:

I never said I disagreed with it. The continent chosen should be deleted for practical reasons.

I'm simply pointing out that anyone who is worried that their culture is going to be destroyed by the loss of a continent has no reason to worry if enough people care enough about said culture. The only reason I'm using Dwilight as an example is because he's talking about why Dwilight should stay because of how unique it is. My example can easily be applied to any of the other continents/religions that could be on the chopping block.

When War Islands was deleted people tried to recreate the realms cultures and religions on Dwilight. Keep in mind this was a brand new continent with no established rival cultures, realms or religions to give them trouble. The end result is that almost every trace of those transplanted cultures disappeared. Torenism was wiped out by SA, and people basically stopped talking about their former countries. I think the only one left who mentions War Island is Karibash.

Fair enough. Though that doesn't mean it's impossible though. It would just require enough players who cared enough to hold onto their culture to keep it going. It's the same in BM as it is in real life, as long as someone remembers than a culture will endure. If no one can be bothered then it dies out. If enough people can't be bothered to hold onto their cultures when whichever continent sinks, then you can't blame the game for killing it off.

In any case thats all quite relevant to the matter at hand. As much as I love Dwilight and SA, it is a silly argument to say it should be exempt from consideration just because we rped some big red stars- I'm sure every continent has its own unique role playing points and its up to us as players to keep these alive if our island is scheduled for deletion.

This! And that's why I should pay attention when it warns me that someone posted while I was replying.

According to roleplay the blood star constellation is only visible from Dwilight. So no you can't just pick it up and move it elsewhere.

I'm not going to argue which continent needs to go, but if you can roleplay that a bunch of pretend stars in a pretend sky can have pretend effects on people then those same pretend stars can probably suddenly move without much effort in anyone's roleplays. The stars are divine, after all. Who are you to say they can't move?

I do buy the argument that the culture is a product of the geography, but any established culture can endure elsewhere too because it has been established already. I moved an entire religion between continents myself before. It wasnt the same size, influence, or anything at all like SA, but it adapted and worked for a long time. Other religions exist between continents just fine currently too.

...shart? Seriously? It's called that in some places? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That was my first reaction too! That word has a much different meaning among most people I know.
