Feature Requests / Re: Cult (part of religion)
« on: March 23, 2011, 10:54:41 PM »
You can more or less do this by creating separate ranks in a religion for each section of belief. I've been in a few and read some that do this.

Still, its an interesting idea. The only issue I see with being able to suddenly split a cult from a religion to make a new religion is that they'd be losing and then competing for the same follower base and I cant think of too many religions that would want that.

Background / Re: The medieval view of commoners
« on: March 23, 2011, 08:39:47 PM »
This was very interesting to read. A lot of people in game could probably benefit from this kind of thinking when it comes to the common folk.

Ive avoided referring to the commoners on my characters as sub-human entities for as long as I've mentioned them though I've noticed people doing it before. I usually figured that while they were below most of my characters they were still humans and deserved some measure of basic respect (Though there are exceptions on some of my characters that went both ways).

Feature Requests / Re: Judicial Punishments with Teeth
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:50:01 PM »
Maybe we can finally have the judges power in accordance with that whole weak/strong/medium thing the ruler gets to decide. Strong judges can arrest people ;)

I love the idea of that. Being arrested by the judge seems a lot more embarrassing then getting a fine slapped on you and I'd imagine someone would be more hesitant to commit a certain crime if it landed them in jail. Its not very exciting in there, after all.

General Talk / Re: What Browser Do You Use?
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:40:42 PM »
I used Firefox for years right up until about a month ago when I was having issues with Firefox slowing way down or just crashing constantly. So, I decided to make a full switch to Chrome (which I've always had installed as a backup) and I havent really bothered looking back.

1. The item wear is way to high, real Vikings traveled from Sweden/Norway down to Constantinople and were still able not only to fight but to return without falling on their own swords. Some of us miss the old raids down south :(

I hereby add this to my flops list.

I was born in Connecticut but I live in North Carolina. So, the United States!

I find it a suitable place of living.

Tops:

-A fantastic, unique world with a persistent history
-Enough different classes and realm roles to allow gameplay to be different for everyone if they choose it to be
-Roleplaying adds huge depth to the game and can be a lot of fun
-Devs working hard on fixing problems or implementing new features (I know it comes with its fair share of bugs but its to be expected and I dont mind)

Flops:
-OOC often plays way more of a role in things then it ever should in some places. I witnessed my own personal worst of it not that long ago in the Far East (some of it only suspected, some of it reported) and I know it happens elsewhere even if I havent experienced it directly.
-Someone mentioned earlier that claims often make no sense or arent taken seriously. I wouldnt mind seeing it reworked a bit

I know there are a few other issues I have, but I cant think of them at the moment! So maybe they arent so important after all.

I like the idea of having a noble take part in a pilgrimage in order to allow them advancement. It presents a unique roleplay chance for interested players and actually forces them to take in-game action to carry it out.

Good luck!

BM General Discussion / Re: How did you learn about BattleMaster ?

A friend of mine in high school was talking about all the fun he was having with it so I decided to check it out myself. I have no clue how he found it though.

Other Games / Re: Shogun 2 Total War

I only played the demo, but Im planning on picking it up as soon as possible. It was tons of fun and what I saw did seem like a pretty hefty improvement over the two TW games Ive played to death in the past (Rome, Medieval II).

My friend who introduced me to the game explained both aspects to me, but going in I was very much expecting more of a roleplay environment. So, most of my early playing was all roleplaying and following orders for the strategic stuff. Honestly, it hasnt changed much and I still have a pretty weak understanding of all the tactical stuff past the Troop Leader level as a result.

I dont mind playing the other half of the game that doesnt focus on military conquest or just following orders though, so I suppose its all good.

That actually is a fair point for the three main classes. Those are three ways of life one would probably be unlikely to just drop for a few weeks at a time. With the sub-classes though, it makes perfect sense why those arent immediately open in a new realm.

People asking you to switch Courtier for Warrior to help out a war effort is annoying, especially considering class choice is a player choice. I never like seeing things like that thrown around even if they are meant as suggestions since that alone sort of breaks into OOC territory as far as Im concerned.

Feature Requests / Re: Personal Prison
« on: March 17, 2011, 03:52:44 AM »
As someone who has played a Judge for one heck of a long time, I can honestly say that giving players even more chances to escape (before they even end up in the Judge's dungeon no less) would be even more frustrating then the high escape chances nobles already seem to have.

Personal squabbles aside, this does sound like it would just over-complicate the Judge and prison system too much.

Would love to see this.  Then priests wouldn't need to go warrior/etc before emigrating.  They could head to other continents and spread the faith.

Just out of curiosity, do you lose your preaching skill when changing class away from Priest?

Honestly, it takes no time at all to be able to switch classes to priest compared to some other sub-classes like infiltrator. The only benefit I could see of having the priest class persist during emigration is if you lose preaching skill in the process.

"variable signatures" is something that is often brought up. Some way to choose how your message is signed, perhaps on a case-by-case basis. I can see how this would be useful, especially in a theocracy. You might want your religious title used if you are addressing the realm on a matter of religious authority, but use a Marshal title when sending order to your army.

I'm pretty sure this one has routinely been turned down.

Though I like the idea, I can see why if it is a pain from the design perspective. Even if it wasnt, there are more important features to add aside from variable signatures I'd say.
