I won't deny that geography confers advantages, but it is not as determinative as you are making it out to be. Darka could be destroyed if CE was willing to allow Lyonesse to start TOing Darkan regions (and Lyonesse was willing to take them). Also if Talerium stopped protecting them.

I agree with this. Any realm, no matter their advantages, can be destroyed or weakened. It's just a matter of getting enough resources together to stomp on someone. Darka is handily surviving and winning because they seem to be real solid defenders, have a capable military, and the CE just doesn't seem to care enough to actually try hard enough to stop them. With the resources at CE's disposal things could be going differently.

Of course, that's all an outsider's perspective, but still.

Also, I wouldn't be so quick to assume that CE would rush quickly to destroy any new started realms. A new realm built by secession which properly prepared itself would not only likely survive but also end up as a very quick ally of the old CE.

I'd be interested in seeing that happen though at the same time the results are pointless. If the seceded realm becomes an ally of CE and, presumably, an Imperial member, then it's the exact same thing as being a part of CE, except you have a fancy crown on your head. Which, hey, having a fancy crown is nice, but it still means you aren't doing much differently than you would've been as an influential Duke. I'd like to see a successful secession make some waves down there and carve out an independent entity.

The Cagilian alliance has been expanding for some time now, so no one can accuse it of stagnating. It is, in fact, the main source of conflict and change.

While their constant expansion is by definition not stagnation, the fact that a massive percentage of Atamara's realms are all allied and cannot make a move without being utterly destroyed means there will be Atamaran stagnation once CE has hit it's limits, which is more or less has at this point. The only thing that can happen now is CE either breaks apart or everyone on Atamara is Imperial and there is nothing left to do.

Just because CE has been expanding for years, doesn't mean it isn't creating stagnation by making it next to impossible to do anything on Atamara that the Empire will not somehow have a hand in or influence.

I imagine the issue would also be that any Duke that tries to break off would be drowned by the CE alliance unless they had enough support to balance it.

I think some sort of fracture in the Empire would be the most interesting thing for the Atamara, though how it will happen I can't say. Maybe someone needs to get tired of being federated or something.

Targets are probably old people without great sword skill.

Not all of them, but a majority were. I was keeping a unit with me most of the time and trying to stay on the move and I was stabbed only once personally. I assumed that would help.

Sad, why you kill him
So now son of Elroy took up his father sword isn't it?

Because Ender got tired of everyone around him being stabbed. The turnaround on realm council positions was getting ridiculous. That and infiltrators have never been safe in a Viking dungeon, not as long as Ender has been around to do whatever he wants and refuse prisoner treaties.

BM General Discussion / Re: Medal?

I just tend to forget they exist, though I think I've awarded one or two before.

The way I think they're meant to work is that players can award someone who goes above and beyond in either of the three categories so that the awardee can feel appreciated and others can see that the person in question is probably worth playing with. So, I guess go above and beyond if you'd like medals! And hope you're playing with people who remember they exist.

Aqua vitae is actually a term encompassing a rather large number of liquors.

Yeah, it's a loose enough label that I can change what it is whenever I feel like it to add a little flavor to a roleplay. I don't use it often though, but I like the option.

I dabbled with an Irish Count (thanks for the advice, by the way!) for a little while and was overwhelmed by what I seemed able to do, or might be able to do, so I sat through some of the tutorials to see if I can't figure it all out.

I love the potential I'm seeing in the game so far though. I just need to figure out how it works.

The Barony/Heorot is Makarian Ale

Or mead. We mix those terms interchangeably even if they aren't the same thing at all.

I roleplay Edmund drinking aqua vitae, which in my head I translate at fruity liquor or some sort of brandy/whiskey. I can't say that kind of drink represents Kindara as a whole and I don't know my mixed drinks well enough to pick one to represent Kindara.

I don't mean to hijack the thread (at least not for long), but I just bought CK2 yesterday since the game and dlc are on sale on Amazon and can be redeemed through Steam.

Anyone have any suggestions for ways to start playing or guides to watch/read to get me acquainted? Or is it best just to jump in?

Reports from Heorot are telling the tale today of how Dread Lord Ender Neill returned from a Minas Leon prison, grabbed his old Executioner's axe, and dragged Rieleston infiltrator Elroy Anderbliss from his cell and out into the streets of Brackhead. Without waiting for a crowd to truly gather, and too old to care for ceremony, he kicked the man's legs out from under him and chopped his head off.

Onlookers report that the Dread Lord then lifted his axe onto his shoulder, picked up the decapitated head, and walked through the doors of the nearest mead hall where he made the casual announcement that he'd executed the assassin and needed a good drink to celebrate.

He's surprisingly hard to stab if you arent an infiltrator. I kept going to prison trying to reach him for a duel.

In a battle sure to be remembered in song and print for ages to come, Kindaran Commander and Duke Alpha of House Aerinia was slain on the field of battle in Paplarmi while leading the armies of Kindara against the might of the Arcaean Empire and their Zonasan puppets. Commander Alpha's death was at once met with shock and dismay as letters poured into Kindara from friends and foe alike expressing their condolences. Always a man of true honor and bravery, the Far East has lost one of the finest nobles to ever live and fight.

Maybe if you actually bothered to extend a hand, hell even a finger, to him, he'd co-operate. And on the charge of being antagonistic, since when in the past two-three months has he done that? Not one instance. He has been doing exactly what I said - going around, preaching and doing maintenance on temples because that's all he can do right now. I'd gladly go to war if it wouldn't plunge the religion into chaos (as in the elder/priest threshold dropping below 66%). When we had the issue regarding the Margrave of Azros attempting to close down the temple there, did he go berzerk and start preaching hellfire and brimstone? No. He went to Azros to discuss the issue and let it lie in the end, in fact the faith was commended for that fact by Galiard if I do recall.

The character, nor myself for that matter, are not completely unreasonable. Malos, like Ravier and Ventus, is a zealot and will chase something down if he believes in it.

It is entirely true that Edmund and Malos stopped speaking after he was suspended from the Great Debate Hall and just as Edmund could have written Malos to mend things, Malos could have written Edmund to do the same. Instead, Edmund was more than happy to just ignore Malos and deal with the rest of the Church of Humanity when required. Solarus tends to be his contact there the precious few times he's needed to discuss something, like the event in Azros.

The way you choose to play Malos is fine and I'm glad he has convictions, but don't expect another character to be willing to be friends when 95% percent of his interactions with Malos have been pretty negative.

If you think I am a troll, then instead of pointing the finger, take it to the Magistrates or Titans. Because I will not tolerate my name as a player being slandered without cause.

And if you genuinely think there is some massive OOC clan conspiracy to exclude you and only you, then do the same. My problem with Malos is purely in game and in character and can be fixed. There are few characters I've run into while playing this game that my characters cant mend fences with eventually.

I only started having a problem with you in particular when I noticed that you have a tendency of making forum posts about how an OOC clan in Kindara was deliberately out to get you while implicating myself and Velax (like in the EC thread a while back and in this thread now). I take the separation of IC/OOC pretty seriously and don't appreciate people making Kindara out to be something it's not or implying we punish any random character without just cause in game or through OOC methods.

You were the only player who showed any interest in reaching out to me; and I enjoyed Onamont's interactions with your character.

When I remember I do try to make sure I make contact with as many nobles as possible, particularly new ones. I wish more higher placed nobles or even knights did so, just to make a showing, but it is what it is.

And he is still in your realm? I am surprised by Kindaran generosity.

That's because insulting a bunch of people and just being a jerk isnt actually a crime and no OOC clan exists to persecute Malos like he claims. So, he's been excluded from the Great Debate Hall and generally shunned IC, because contrary to Ravier's belief, everyone doesn't love an antagonistic noble who clearly has no intentions of getting along with anyone, period. If anything, Ravier is punishing himself by staying if he hates Kindara so much, or just enjoys being a troll, which seems pretty clear by this point.

I should have known better than to feed him in the first place, though, so back I'll leave it be like Arrakis requested.

Edit: Fixed, Ravier's name.
