BM General Discussion / Re: Infiltrator actions: Bad Taste?

And how is the assassin supposed to know that? If you put two characters in the same realm, and they're your two favorites, and you put them in the same region, and an assassin is there, you pretty much brought it upon yourself.

Leaving my city while an enemy army is nearby is bringing the sacking of the city upon myself. Having two characters in the same region at the same time due to happenstance cannot nearly be the same.

Don't you have two more characters to play, plus the war islands, forums, fixing up the wiki....and that's not even counting real life.

Have you ever given preference to certain characters at some times and different characters at others? Am I the only one that has characters go in and out of style?

At the time of the assasination the only characters that I'm having fun with were the ones that got assassinated. I have 1 other character that is active, and is a bit boring right now. One character is paused because its an advy which for some reason didn't grab my attention like I wanted and I'm trying to decide where to send a 4th noble. So essentially, when my two most roleplayed, and my single favorite char is assassinated it knocked me out of the game.

Squishymaster, you're just north of my planet actually. I'm glad I just noticed. I was sending a single pirate ship to see if you had anything juicy to pick up before I just realized it was you. (re-routing)

Okay well it is good to know that my interpretations of what I thought was cool was way off. I'm not trying to cry or complain, I've been attacked and knocked out of action before by infiltrators and accept it as part of the game, and part of the strategy sometimes.

Just thought this was a bit irregular is all.

If this is the what the community feels is acceptable then I'll accept that.

Major dukes have influence. Other players might not separate IC/OOC. I can't tell you how often I've seen a character get wounded, then his cousin or brother or whatever begin giving orders as if he/she were that character. To knock out chain of command, it's often necessary to knock out the whole family of the chain of command. Which makes sense IC as well.

This might make IC sense if the two characters ever even remotely spoke to each other. The two are roleplayed quite separately and don't interact much if they can help it.

BM General Discussion / Infiltrator actions: Bad Taste?

So, I have two characters in one realm, a Duke who is pretty important to the realm, as Duke of the capitol, and a priest who pretty much does his own thing and doesn't dabble in any realm business for the most part.

It just so happens that both of my characters recently happened to be in the same region of the realm (capitol), and an infiltrator came along and assassinated not one but both of my characters back-to-back. Taking out my Duke character was understandable because he is important to the defense of the realm, and is actually a viable target for a political hit. However, I thought it was pretty rude, if not unsportsmanlike to take out my second character as well, the priest because this does absolutely nothing politically or militarily for the assassins realm, but instead just simply doesn't allow me to play any of my characters for a week or whatever.

Thoughts?

If you can find a location like that, it seems like a decent idea to me I guess. Only problem is that all the people around me are way built up already. I'm still sending off colony ships in every direction, and have yet to even have my first colony ship arrive at a planet.

Okay, as an off-shoot to the discussions began in "Browser-Based Gaming" I've created an individual Dave's Galaxy thread.

Dave's Galaxy is an interesting little space game that requires very very little time each day to play. (Far less than BM in my experience so far.)

http://www.davesgalaxy.com/

At any rate, some of us from BM have all joined seemingly and I say we can either see about working together in some way (although due to initially beginning far from each other, it seems incredibly difficult) or at least keep in some communication. If you joined, go ahead and let us know here and put down your tag for that game. Any ideas and comments perfectly welcome.

(I'll edit top post every once in a while to include new names if ppl like that idea)
-----------

So, one thing I was thinking about is that if we find some sort of central area in between all of us, we could perhaps each send a colony ship there and build up some sort of alliance headquarters where we could build up a second base of operations to each fall back on if our main spots get attacked or whatever? With the way resources work it would essentially be like a 2nd spot in the game, but we could work together there.

Thoughts?

Yes, I thought it was very weird to be placed right next to the designer of the game. I guess it gives me somewhat of a unique neighbor set, because anyone can see me just by clicking "demo". hehe.

Anyway, since Dave's Galaxy seems to have a small following I thought I'd make a new thread just for it, and we can all post in there.

I've never really bought this argument the CA keeps trying to make. It's a false equivalence.

What exactly is the difference?

Wow, there is so little help information in this game it is insane. I've already read through everything available. Anyway, just made a couple colony ships and sent them to the two closest planets. Not sure what else to do.

Is there any sort of system for figuring out where you are in relation to other ppl? Character name in game: KingDante

P.S. Are there any other games that happen to have groups of BM players in them that I don't know about? That archmage game sounds interesting to say the least. I have some time for games but not 24 hours at a time amount of time. although that specific heavy time based game sounds cool.

That's when we pretty much started doing whatever we pleased.

Lets see:

1. Ignoring agreements
2. Interfering in and trying to influence diplomatic discussions of other realms
3. And doing whatever you want to do regardless of what anyone else wants.

Yep, that certainly seems like exactly the complaints  against CE as the reason for the current war. Cheers! We've come full circle!

I'm gonna try out Dave's Galaxy, is there any way to get in contact with y'all there? Or any chance of y'all helping me understand what's going on? We should make an in-game BM clan if they have that sort of thing. Anyway, signing up now, let me know.

Of course you were. Your ass isn't on the line in any way shape or form. This whole conflict is one big fun, goat riding raid for the Barony. They'll never suffer no matter the out come of it.

+1

I think this shows 100% the difference between Darka and BoM, in comparison with Eston and Coria in this conflict. Hammarsett and MI are slightly different because each had a clear choice of whether the war may or may not be fought on their borders.

Development / Re: Retention Revisited

As someone on both sides of the equation, I feel justified in saying that it's not continents but nations.

Caerwyn hemmorages new nobles, because sure you get some greetings but it seems like new players are being used in a faction or schemed for or manipulated.  Arcachon doesn't seem to have that problem at all.  I think it's a very small sample size but people dislike feeling used.  One of the selling points of the game is that you're part of a team from the start and I think it makes a big difference to new players as to if they are pawns in someone's scheme or if they are being brought into a club that has your back if something goes wrong.

Again small sample size, but that's just what I've noticed.

Maybe its just me and those I play with, but I would have thought being brought into a scheme by a long-standing player would be just the thing to hook a new player. My favorite part of the game is working on the politics of trying to either gain power, or prevent abuse of power. Of course working together as a team for fighting wars and battles is important, but sometimes fixing teams that aren't working well is equally as important.
