Feature Requests / REJECTED: Real time chat
« on: November 15, 2012, 01:36:15 AM »
Title:
Real time chat

Summary:
Nobles from the same realm, military organisation or guild can meet in a "physical" guild house or government building to share ideas in a real time conversation.

Details:
  • These buildings could be added to some regions (townsland or cities) as another kind of infrastructure, by a high dignitary of the guild/organisation.
  • This person and the other members of similar rank could stablish which ranks or kind of people can enter the building.
  • Whenever a member of the guild/realm/organisation is in a region with this kind of building, he/she can enter to be displayed as a speaker available to talk with. Whenever decides to leave the building, he/she can't join the conversation.
Benefits:
  • Some decisions which require an important coordination or clarification could be discussed properly.
  • It could add some funny roleplaying, creating an emulation of a court or guild house with a direct interaction within the members.
Possible Exploits:
  • It could be used to marginalize some disliked characters.
  • An intensive use could end up with an abuse of OOC conversation if the responsible members aren't strict about this matter.

No problem at all! There you have this ones. I've included a sample of a textured design, but it's just an average Photoshop layer effect, I'm sure you can do something much better.  ;)

How about this one? It's a simplified version of the other one, maybe suits better. I've tried also another version, quite similar to your sketch. If there's anything else I can do, just let me know!  :)

Regards

From scout to scout  ;)

Would it be something like this? I have tried something similar to the sample you posted. Tell me if you'd like something different and we can try to make it better.

My daily non-rewarded good action  ;D

After going through this again, and looking up some things via Google, here's a list of likely names that seem to not belong to a game or such like already.
Why "likely"? Because I might be working on a side-project that is in need of a name. So tell me which ones you like for a game like BattleMaster, but with more freedom, and a larger scale:
  • Unbridled Ambitions
  • Coat of Arms
  • Border Princes
  • Blood & Power
  • Crowns of Legend

Stop the brainstorm! May the referendum begin  ;D

Personally, I'd choose Unbridled Ambitions or Coat of Arms. They sound different from all those average strategy games, and make some emphasis on the diplomatic side of the game. And can't deny they're classy  ;)

Background / Re: Cavalier vs Knight DIfferences and background info

Chénier, your comment about Wikipedia aroused my curiosity so I took a look and checked out that the word "cavalier" does exist in Spanish, as you said. Nevertheless, its meanings include a kind of dog, a British car by Vauxhall Motors, a North Dakota town name, and the nickname used for the supporters of King Charles the 1st of England in the Civil War, as Longmane said.

The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) doesn't recognize "cavalier", but anyway it can be easily understood by any Spanish speaker. Moreover the game is written in English, so maybe it's easier to just take this word and not discuss about the angels' gender as we say  ;D

Regards.

For what concerns to Spanish, as Sonya says it's a little bit difficult to make a difference between Knight and Cavalier, as we use (as you've seen) the word Caballero to both "titles". Also, I think feudal tradition in Spain has been a little bit different from England or France; that would probably be the reason that some nobility ranks haven't got a direct translation in which the meaning is the same.

I think the most accurate word to describe what we understand in game as knight would be Hidalgo in Spanish. This means "Hijo d-algo" (son of something), a low noble rank. These nobles owned some parcel of land that allowed them to live of what this land produced without having to "get their hands dirty" working. Their only duty was to fight for their king when summoned. In Spain, some wealthy enough warriors who could pay for their horse and weapon, gained this rank by fighting against the Moors; the king, in exchange gave them a parcel of the conquered land. A lot of the current common Spanish surnames come from this tradition: Pérez (son of Pero), Díaz (son of Diego), Rodríguez (son of Rodrigo)... This low nobles had the right of being named after their father.

Cavalier is on the other hand a high nobility rank, which I'm not sure if could be translated to Paladín. A brave warrior with high ideals, but humble and pious. Not sure about that, as I've seen this word used in English to talk about knights of Religious Orders.

Anyway, we use Caballero as a generic word for medieval nobles, and literally for knight, cavalier, or even gentleman, regardless of the appropriate meaning or translation of the rank in Spanish.

These are my proposals:

- Hall of Heroes

- Nobility

- Honourable Journey

- Coat of Arms

- Oaths of Fealty

I think that some short names related to honour, aristocracy and that stuff would fit in the game. After all, the game mechanics are (mainly) all about the noble as character. In my opinion, names not explicitly related to warfare (blood, swords, of course battle...  :P ) maybe sound more "mature" if we can call that a game  :D
