Atamara is definitely acting weird.

I'm not sure about EC, as I don't have a region lord char there and do not see region status reports anyway.

tom, what do you mean by turn failed?!

so far as i can see, we got quite a bit of turn change messages on bt at the normal hours of 5am gmt
unit autopayment
Unit Status Report
Battle in X
Referendum Ending
Referendum Summary
Caravan Report
(ok.. none of the region/duchy/realm report stuff)

then we got one of the newish bits at 8.4x gmt (around the time you posted)
Regional Report for Avengmil  (to lord+knight)

I'm seeing this on Atamara as well. The regions seem to be frozen in time. Population is not changing. Other stats are not changing. It's not that things are simply not reported. They are not changing at all. We're not making any forward progress on TOs either. However, all player initiated actions still seem to have effects, and battles are still happening.

It's a bug. Your progress isn't displaying correctly. Next turn should be better.

I'm still seeing 0% for both TO progress stats, Tom. 0% fear and 0% sympathy.

Yes it was decried by many players, but it wan't punished in any way. (That I can remember.)

But it was also an Atamara, home of giant badger invasions, rock bands playing at tournaments, goat worshipers, and pink-tutu-wearing vikings. So, altogether a bad example...

And people say Atamara has no personality. :) I have no regrets about playing there.

Okay, one regret: In hind sight, it was a bad idea to fight the Redspaniel army during a windy day. We shouldn't have done that.

men in kilts + no underwear + wind = a lifetime of mental scarring

I would think that most nobles would know basic reading and writing, and basic arithmetic below 100. I mean, if the nobility can afford to educate the scribes, they can damn well afford to educate their own children. This way your noble can double-check his scribe's results to make sure that he actually wrote what the noble told him to write, and your noble can still read his orders if his scribe kicks the bucket mid-campaign.

So why use scribes at all? Well nobody wants to read your noble's chicken scribbles handwriting. Maybe nobody can read it. While Sir Blockhead has been training his horsemanship, swordsmanship, leadership skills, etc., his entire childhood, the scribe has been practicing producing a florid script that would make angels weep.

And I always suspect that "honor" really means math skills. You can command up to as many men as you can count. Wouldn't that make a lot of sense?  ;D

D'Haran forces are currently trying to TO a region with only 6 peasants. We're not making any progress:

Quote
Currently, your realm has about 0% of the fear and 0% of the sympathy you need to complete the takeover.

This is after all this:

Quote
Takeover Activity   (10 hours, 11 minutes ago)
everyone in Sallowtown
Soldiers of Nils Björn have been seen mingling with the locals. There is a little bit less fear in the eyes of the peasants now. Your realm is welcome a bit more warmly now, but not much.

Takeover Activity   (26 minutes ago)
everyone in Sallowtown
Soldiers of Kalince Fanath have been seen mingling with the locals. There is a little bit less fear in the eyes of the peasants now. The peasants seem somewhat more sympathetic towards your realm.

Takeover Activity   (21 minutes ago)
everyone in Sallowtown
The soldiers of Rurik Clarke are helping out the peasants with repairs and other work. There is a little bit less fear in the eyes of the peasants now.

I know it's not much, but I find it hard to believe that several hundred troops can perform TO actions, and make less than 1% progress in a region with 6 peasants.

Am I too impatient, or is this a bug?

So, someone who wanted to troll the game can just repeatedly create new accounts? We don't have something like an IP-ban?

Two bug reports:

1. No battles seem to be happening at all on Atamara. One of my chars were in that "mock battle" in Corniel. My other char marched into a region with Monsters but did not fight it with his unit. I did not even get a battle report for the latter case. This is going to get annoying real fast until it's fixed. I hope nobody is dealing with numerous rogue spawns.

After all the current refactoring gets done, I request that we lock down the stable islands, and only push code to it after reasonable testing on BT/Dwi. Currently, it seems that too many bugs and issues get leaked to stable on a regular basis. The stable islands are not stable at all. They are just a slightly outdated version of testing without the newest features. The worst of both worlds.

2. On Dwilight, if you click on Information -> Dynamic Map instead of looking at the map via the travel menu, the map looks... wrong. It looks like an outdated or draft version of Dwilight. The islands of D'Hara are the wrong shapes, cities are missing, and the islands of Madina is reduced to a single volcanic island.

Is that still a problem anymore?

Chénier, how quickly would you make sure your realm gets involved in a war, if Tom threatened to bring TMP back? :)

My apologies. I did not know that the Magistrates are island-specific. I hope that we can extend the system to other islands when the Magistrate system moves out of the testing phase.

I've made a Titan complaint, but Titans are usually conservative in dealing out punishments. This player did break the social contract, but his account is already deleted. If he were to create another one, that wouldn't be multi-ing either. I wrote to the Titans that he's abusing the account system, and I'm not even sure if I can make that one stick.  :-\

I know that some people here hate CE, but I believe I speak for everyone on CE when I say that, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, friendly realm for new players to start in. We had a few new players start just in the past week. Now one of their first BM experiences is someone cussing them out. That's the only thing that upsets me. :(

New Knight   (24 minutes ago)
A new knight has emerged from the ranks of the Cagilan Empire nobles. Kasallo Arminius is starting his career today.
He originates from Oyonniarre. He comes from a new noble family (OOC: 0 days in the game) and he might need some assistance to get started. Mentors, take note. You can check the background of this family or send a welcome message.

Out-of-Character from Kasallo Arminius   (23 minutes ago)
Message sent to everyone in your realm (76 recipients)
was thinking of playing again to get revenge on CE, read this http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Kinsey_Family/Enri/First_Crusade , realize you were cheating the whole time ("but we had our ears inside BoM" aka ooc spying), !@#$ all of you.

Noble has left   (22 minutes ago)
The player of Kasallo has deleted the character.

Noble has left   (22 minutes ago)
The player of Kasallo has left the game, the character is therefore deleted.

This player created an account and then deleted it, just so that he can cuss us out (breaking the Social Contract) without fear of punishment.

Is there anything that we can do about this? Can we check to see if he created another account on the same IP since then?

BM General Discussion / Re: BM culture

I think that each continent should subscribe to one style of play. It's not like we have a surplus of nobles, so having redundant continents is kind of silly.

Currently, all continents apart from AT and EC have some sort of gimmick, or attraction. I don't think we should do anything as hamfisted as sinking one of the vanilla continents, or merging them together. How about adding one such gimmick? Adding a gimmick to one of them would allow us to cater to a wider playerbase.
This gimmick should not be a "FFA zone" thing, because people would freak out and it would ruin the continent. What could an alternative gimmick be that wouldn't be so extreme as to "ruin" the continent, but could still fill a niche that, so far, is not filled by any other continent?

How about victory conditions? This is something every other strategy game has, but isn't in BM, and we could fill a niche using it. I have no idea how it could be implemented, but hey, food for thought.

I claim that you are claiming this out of ignorance of the lore on AT and EC. :) When I say vanilla, I mean vanilla game mechanics. AT, EC, and Far East have normal game mechanics. That doesn't mean that every single realm on those islands are exact clones of each other. They all have different cultures and traditions. They all add intrinsic value to BM. That's a lot more valuable than "gimmicks".

Before declaring any island to be "boring", or "not fun for me", you would have to play in every realm in it. Otherwise, it's just an unfair blanket judgement, right?

No, that would be boring. Too much temptation for people with grudges to time their entry into the war until the CE/Tara block was too crippled to recover, but not too long to put a stop to it before all is lost.

What would be *interesting* is if the invaders started picking off the small guys individually. Then you'd really see some scrambling. Would the northern realms pull it together fast enough, and drop their internal conflict in time to stop it? Would the CE/Tara block abandon their grudges and save them, or let them die and count on their power/unity to defeat the invaders on their own?

That would not be fair either. CE would just blackmail the northern realms: "I'll save you if you do this, this, and this..."

Please leave any experimental projects like "IR-free island", "no character limit island", etc., to Beluaterra, because:

1. Other islands are exposed to new players, whose first impression of BM will be whatever island they started out at. Beluaterra is populated with players who have at least experienced a little bit of the other islands, because they had to have immigrated to Beluaterra. Imagine a new player who started out on an IR-free island, plays for a year, and then immigrates to another island, and gets a military leadership position. Guess what he's going to do? What if he's used to stuffing five characters in one realm? Will he be tempted to multi-cheat?

2. Players in Beluaterra signed up for crazy stuff happening. Players in AT and EC just want a "vanilla", basic BM experience. Is that so wrong? As someone mentioned earlier, some of us play BM for new thrills, and some of us play BM for familiar comforts.

Finally, player retention is a problem, yes. But if we invite in clanners? Then we'd have two problems.  ;D

I thought there were plans to add some simple checks to prevent this?

1. Rogue forces cannot loot when hostile troops are present, just like everyone else. Since rogues are at war with everyone, this means that rogues cannot damage a region when other troops are present.

2. Rogue forces cannot loot if they are in the retreated, scattered, or rallying states, again, just like everyone else.

All we're asking for is that rogue forces get the same restrictions as normal troops when it comes to looting, and not treated as special cases.

Other Games / Re: The Witcher 2
« on: November 27, 2011, 05:36:43 AM »
Just getting around to playing this now. First impressions:

My computer is not ready. 15 fps on almost lowest settings. Witcher (the first one) had really bad graphics, but I think they might have gone overboard in the other direction this time. Or maybe it's time for me to upgrade... Hmm...

I don't care though. I'm stilling playing it. The way that dismembered arm glints off the sunlight as it traces a bloody arc through the air? Beautiful.

Yes. The game is hard. I have my superior swords and armor from my game save from the first game. I know how Signs and potions work. The game is still hard in the beginning because I don't have enough potion ingredients yet. There has been a lot of kiting the AI and luring lone AIs out of his buddies' threat range so that I can kill him easily. I'm sure by the middle of the game, Geralt will be a potion-infused chunk of meat again, and his blade will be coated with the deadliest poisons known to man, and I'll have an easier time with it.
