BM General Discussion / Vote for Battlemaster!
« on: August 01, 2017, 03:10:16 PM »
Hi all,

Everyone knows the playerbase of BM has gone down a lot. Besides inviting family and friends into the game, I've tried posting to communities before, which gathered some new players.

But I also found this gem on the Wiki. I'm not sure at all if these voting websites still count or mean something, but maybe we can all make an effort and step up a nodge in promoting Battlemaster? After all, we're here because we love the game and would love to see more players join again. Imagine FEI or Atamara opening up again!

If you have time, please have a look. If you have additional proposals of websites/communities/ways to promote BM, please comment!

Thanks.

Feature Requests / Approved: Wiki links in text walls
« on: June 01, 2017, 01:28:23 PM »
I recently took up the fun task of trying to get wiki links (and other HTML tags) into text walls like religion/guild boards:

http://bugs.battlemaster.org/view.php?id=7105

On the (very old) featurre request, it mentions Realm Bulletins (this already works) and religion/guild boards (that I just fixed).

Do any of you think of any other text walls that could benefit from this?

Already work: Bulletins, Region descriptions, realm description/summary, new member notice, realm border signs
Added: Religion/guild boards, Army description

BM General Discussion / Best border signs!
« on: April 12, 2017, 10:59:08 AM »
Border signs are often very dull and practically the same (I'm one to blame as well). So I wanted to start a topic to hail those persons who managed to actually write up something clever and funny!

I'll start off with a first one I found, in Naan Forest (Outer Tilog, Colonies):

Important Warning

I wish this sign was big enough to tell you that the only way you will possibly survive in these lands is if you bring along a

BM General Discussion / General role
« on: January 23, 2017, 08:23:14 PM »
Hi all,

Been talking to someone through the game who does not have an account on this Forum but is playing a lot of different roles. I figured I might as well put this on the Forum (he mentioned it as well), to see what everyone thinks about it.

To be clear, I don't really have an opinion on this, because I mostly play non-military roles.

Quote
Just been comparing my General with a Non-General character.

General has just these extra powers:

Commands
1. Step down
2. Generals bulletin
3. Assign militia

4. Other: Can see total CS and composition (infantry/etc split) on the other Info>> Armies screen, though any player can see total CS on the Politics>>Armies page.

I suggest two improvements to the General role:
1. Allow the General to see the same as a Marshal on the Armies page.
2. General should be able to appoint the Marshal and Vice-Marshal, along with the sponsor.

Otherwise might as well merge the Marshal and General roles.

Ps. Army sponsor should be able to revoke Marshal appointment access to the General, just as a regional lord can revoke the Bankers access to granaries.

I've seen several improvements to the banker role in the last year which makes them much more useful. Now the General role needs the same reforms.

Having played a lot with all the Government positions, I really like the powers of the other three, it's just the General that sucks (Marshal
Is far more powerful than General yet not elected).

Powers:

Ruler: Handles diplomacy and government/capital/duchies settings.
Judge: Xan hold courts anywhere, has load of fun options with prisoners, can discipline realm mates.
Banker: Can trade foood in all regions, can go corrupt in he black market, see overall food and tax reports, can call an early tax.
General: Er...can assign militia!!!!!!!!!!!!

General Talk / Visiting West Coast USA
« on: January 08, 2017, 08:01:06 PM »
Hi all.

I'm planning to go and check out the West Coast of USA (I myself am from Europe), but I was thinking which places are a *MUST SEE* kind of thing.

The area we're looking in streches from San Fransisco, LA, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, national parks around that,...

The plan is to have a road trip for like 2 weeks at most.

Any tips and tricks are most welcome!

Development / Military chain improvements
« on: July 12, 2016, 03:12:51 PM »
I'm posting this on behalf of another player who does not have an account here. He plays the General and Marshals role with several characters (or at least has).

He listed some improvements he would deem interesting for the military chain in general. Since I would love to hear other people's view on this, I wanted to post it here and have you all comment on it.

Quote
1. The General should be able to issue standing orders. That means you could have three players involved which works much better for cover.
2. The standing orders are a nightmare to use on the phone, be great if that was sorted.
3. The Marshal/Vice-Marshal positions should generate extra honour, prestige and fame. They're by far the hardest roles yet are barely recognised.
4. The Marshal's Wiki is fragmented and complicated. The command staff settings in particular need tidying up and simplifying to make it easy to understand how each setting affects the unit line settings and unit behaviour. I think we'd see more players engaging if the role were easier to learn

Development / Adventurers: Drop items?
« on: June 15, 2016, 04:36:52 PM »
Okay so I've been going through some bugs and found this one, about the dropping of items.

http://bugs.battlemaster.org/view.php?id=7818

To be honest, I don't know why it's around because it never seems profitable to drop items. My question is should we remove the functionality or not?

Do not hesitate to leave comments and/or fill out the poll.

NOTE: I'm talking in general about dropping items. You can't drop advy/combat gear anymore.

Helpline / Bug testing
« on: June 13, 2016, 03:06:52 PM »
Hi all,

Could someone test an open bug for me?

http://bugs.battlemaster.org/view.php?id=8315

See Indirik's comment below, it's how you should test it. I can't with my own family because the region belongs to Atamara so it just says it does not exist anymore.

Thanks!

Helpline / BM Performance drop!!!
« on: May 22, 2016, 10:46:18 AM »
Hi guys,

I'm going to post it here, to reach more folks. I've asked around on IRC and no one really seems to have any trouble with the performance of BM lately.

Since friday, BM is loading very slow for me, that includes this forum too by the way. Sometimes I even just get timeouts and can't even connect to BM. Same on mobile too.

Since nobody else seem to have the problem, I'm not sure what can be done about it. But playing BM like this is not possible, kind of frustrating.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Colonies / New character
« on: April 25, 2016, 03:12:19 PM »
So I was thinking about creating a character on the Colonies island, but I'm not familiar with it. Well I used to have a char there when it first opened, but that's a long time ago.

Is it any fun? What are active realms? Is there much roleplaying or not necessarily?

Opinions are welcome!

Roleplaying / The Death of Jhedosh
« on: April 08, 2016, 11:30:34 AM »
One down!

Quote
Dead Daimon   (3 hours, 11 minutes ago)
message to everyone on Beluaterra
Almost no one took notice of the regularly shuffling undead as all manner of daimonic beasts scaled the walls. From fleas to walruses, daimonic animals surged forward under fire. Daimonic Eagles, Ducks, Geese, and Loons took to the air amidst the arrows.

Jhedosh and the Jarbosh Hooligans hurled boulder after boulder upon fortification and defender alike, Dirken heroically finding himself crushed to death while Fingolfin, Bergelmir, Dunbor, and Wilhelm survived with serious wounds of broken bones. Militia units continued the relentless fire upon Jhedosh and the Jarbosh Hooligans until Jhedosh was wounded and then killed, as he had been in Lastfell. His spirit began to return towards the portal in Xinjin to be re-incorporated as before.

But the militia fired without relent until the spirit too was slain, dissolving away before their eyes. Jhedosh was dead.

Some brave citizens ventured from the walls after the battle to hack his corpse into pieces, fleeing back to the city walls in fear of all the rallying daimonic creatures outside the walls. Safely inside the walls once more, they burnt Jhedosh's corpse with much haste, emitting a purple smoke.

Feature Requests / Fatigue shown on userdata page
« on: April 04, 2016, 02:46:25 PM »
Title: Add fatigue to the userdata page

Summary: Add fatigue to the userdata page shown under the 'Hrs' column like: 16 (25). Meaning you have 16 hours and 25 fatigue.

Benefits: You do not need to log into your character to know whether you need to rest or not. Can help in planning (if you're building up hours to go hunting or gathering or whatever, to then notice you still had fatigue left).

Possible Downsides or Exploits: Userdata page might get a little crowded. It's a small effort to click 'play' and check yourself.

Hoping to get some feedback on this.

Title: I would want to add a notifications which warns characters about unique items in their possession which go below a certain percentage of condition.

Summary: All three characters I have, own unique items. It’s something I bought and benefit from now (prestige etc). However, I never care to look at them again (to check condition), only sporadically. Now I suddenly noticed my items are below 10% and I need to find someone to repair them, ASAP. A notification would remember players to check for this. For the moment, I would just set a fixed % (like 15% or so? Input welcome) rather than letting players set their own threshold in some sort of settings.

Benefits: Less unique items will go to waste, unwillingly. People who do not check their items every 2 days, do not notice their items’ condition lowering.

Possible Downsides or Exploits: Well, it’s again a notification, one of the many. We want notifications for every single thing that many times notifications get lost in the ‘turn messages’. Maybe this sort of notification was left out intentionally to have players keep track of their unique items instead of forgetting about them? I’m not sure. I only know I have problems with remembering to check them.
We should also make it somewhat nicer like “Your servant noticed that your armour seems to be battered and could use some repairs.” Instead of the more general “Your unique item’s condition dropped below 15%”.

Hoping to get some feedback on this.

Development / Region lost messages
« on: March 27, 2016, 01:25:37 PM »
Last turn we lost the region I was lord of on BT. I was surprised by the sequence of automatic messages and I'm going to post it here to see if anyone is in agreement on this.

To me, the second notification shouldn't be sent, since there are no longer 'knights of Ukh', the region was lost. Opinions are welcome.
