BM General Discussion / Re: Character count

Maybe turning 100? :P

I can confirm that 100 did not give a fame point. (Also it's been said that character age specifically does not give it, only actions and things you can 'do' in the game)

Edit: It also kills me that I'm not #1 in fame! I knew for a long time that I didn't have the tourney fame, but I finally got it. Maybe I need to host a tournament successfully again? It's been a long time and I'm not entirely certain I have it.

In fact, I think that's the point of the fame system. It goads you into doing things you may not do otherwise because you are already comfortable the way your characters are. If everyone if comfortable, then nothing ever happens. This guild could end up changing the face of your island! Or, most probably, not. It doesn't matter, you tried, that's the important.

I'm still trying to find those last 8 points of fame.... since rebellion isn't one of them I'm stuck scratching my head now. Also I have three points I have zero idea where they came from.

BM General Discussion / Re: Closing Islands ?
« on: July 22, 2013, 12:07:25 AM »
So I had a good think about this while I was out just now. It seems to me that the only way we can really 'sink' and island is to choose two that aren't going to survive and have them both collide in a fashion where they scramble for land.

In other words two islands are going to one single empty island and they have to duke it out for space through portals that are placed in various places throughout the sinking islands (portal exits I think should be random and have to be explored).

Why do I favor this approach? Nobody feels singled out, it will drive a ton of combat as old alliances shift and batter against one another. How could this actually be done without creating a new island? Two options as I see it.  We sink the Atamara based clones.  Or we sink the FEI and the East having them merged onto a new paired continent ala Dwilight with shrunken coasts from the original FEI and East islands.  This would be a lot more work, but I think will appeal to the player base as it allows cultures to stay in-tact, but to merge realms.

And you completely ignored the entire history of the game. Let's see, the EAST island is called that because? Anyone got an idea?

Because in SpellMaster there were three islands, East South and West.  The east Island was eponymous the eastern island of the three. The south island was actually the War-Islands (hence south-west, and south-east) The colonies map is actually the West Island map.  It's also why there was a Lich King character there for a time as there was a Lich King character in SpellMaster.

Any other questions?

Look, it's clear someone needs to sit down and mediate this, so lets just leave it to the magistrates area for now.

I will be quitting battlemaster effective immediately.  I've been bored of battlemaster for some time and some here already knew I was planning to quit.  The character of Atanamir did various OOC allegations versus me and tried to use it publically as well a fact im not sure many of you know or not.  In the end I resent playing battlemaster now completely.  I will stop at that as I would say many further bad things.  I've had more than my share of OOC hate from the community in general but the recent usage of rumors and OOC info in every aspect has led to this decision.  I simply dont feel like dealing with this new event at all.

I am quitting the game permanently.

Sirionites will buy you a beer if you manage to get it done =) Save us the trouble of organizing a realm wide rotation of troop leaders to get their provisions up.

So it has been on testing for some time now, and I've finally hit a situation where I had to look on the stable branch for the order and lo and behold its not there.  Any idea as to when it's going to be added to stable?

East Island / Re: Oh Where Oh Where Did The Newspapers Go?

The newspapers did start to decline before the forums. I'd say around 2008 or so was the death knell. I personally simply ran out of time to read them, though my characters still like participating in them.  In a lot of ways its the only way to really know what's going on unless you have a lot of contacts.

My only trouble with this has been that as a trader you can't really go anywhere on Dwilight without losing your unit eventually.  Just getting to D'hara from Astrum causes the missing home to crop up.

The character you got was a single space?! What are the odds, clearly the hand of the divine was trying to tell us to empty ourselves of all reason and doubt.

I do.

If I'm lord of a city region, I'd like to be able to be given a chance to stop it at least. Perhaps a 1 turn warning.

Something like drop all of the control and loyalty stats to nothing, but still give the lord a chance to prevent it (OR to pay off the rebels to prevent it) in some manner. Otherwise, it is kind of dumb.

You can always deal with rebels when they start to protest, usually it's about a day or two even with 100% against you.  See all the brutal takeovers of regions where there is 0% sympathy and 100% independence.

If the region is at 0 independence, it won't do much. But in a less stable region, it can easily push it over the edge.

We wouldn't want people to be so destructive with money alone, but tipping the balance is just the right thing. :-)

That said though Tom, it's rare enough that I can count on one digit how many times I've seen the link to do it!  I would've liked at least enough to take it from 0 to protests against the government that people would have to deal with in a day or two.  But, eh, since its so rare I doubt anyone would want it prioritized over any other things like I don't know M&F =)

You can on ocassion get the option to funnel golds to increase Independence movements within the home region of your family.

See Relak family history, or just believe the following.

2010-07-08      Gregor      Banned from Ibladesh by -.
Reason: Financed rebels in Al Arab

Gregor dumped the entire 10k (max at the time) into the rebellion.  The game said that it was well spent, but that the large sum was noticed (hence the ban, but hey a record of it being done! I was fame chasing, it didn't give me fame sadly)  The region didn't even budge, I asked some players there and they said they didn't notice one bit.
