Bought this yesterday. I'm a fan of strange games and satire, and the "combine your own spell" approach is... interesting. I've already managed to kill myself in interesting ways, which apparently is kind of the unofficial goal of the game. :-)

Anyone else got it? Maybe we can make a BM players online game.

That's why I was considering something along the same lines as BM—or, perhaps more accurately, like WI.  Something where each player can log on, do what they have to do, and when everyone's gotten their stuff in, things can move along.

The basic idea would be that the DM has control over everything but the characters' own persons—and that includes having control over the characters' positions, so they can't go gadding about without him being able to react—and players essentially "propose" actions, which the DM can then confirm, modify, or deny.  Everyone, of course, can talk all the time.  Talking is a free action ;)

I think you just re-invented play-by-(e)mail roleplaying. (and SpellMaster) :-)

The problem with this is that you lose one of the most important tools of storytelling: Pacing. You have to make it up somehow. In SM I had something, for a D&D thing you'd have to come up with something.

I have some grand ideas about a good web-based package that could handle a lot of the different parts; I have a significant chunk of the map-walking part written, but mothballed.

There are a number of specialized softwares that do it. Most are windows-only, half of the suck and the other half is barely acceptable. I never liked any of them very much.

By the way, the Skyscraper ads sometimes push the main content down a few screens.  When I click "show unread posts since last visit" the list is pushed all the way below the ads.  It also pushes down list of threads on this forum. :)

I've tried all I can to prevent that, but there are some instances where it still happens. Switch to a different ad layout if you are affected.

My opinions:
  • rogues, monsters, etc. should not ever have banners. They simply don't have them, so why display them?
  • likewise for militia
  • it would be really nifty if only units that have a banner show one on the battlefield. It would give players something "tangible" for buying a banner, and it simply makes sense. But the feature is so cool that this is not really the important point.

Note to Tom/GMs, if there are any objections to this type of playstyle, please let me know so I can promptly stop this.

I'm always in support of crazy experiments.

I still have a regular Pen&Paper group, though we don't play D&D. At the moment we enjoy the unfairly underrated Fireborn, before that we had a long time of Warhammer FRP, and lots of others before that (Amber, Vampire, Shadowrun and many more).

No. If he doesn't participate in the battle - and without a unit he won't - then he can't take control.

Actually adblock should only hide text elements instead of blocking them. Thus an impression MIGHT be generated.

Don't think so. The ads are included via some javascript, and I'm pretty sure AdBlock prevents the execution of that script.

But I'm perfectly fine with people using AdBlock.

View Single Post added, the others are either not yet available for this version (RC4+patch) or I don't deem them necessary at this time.

Yup I know IE isn't support, and just have to deal with it while I'm at work. Just stating that I knew changes had been made since IE was even worse then before.

We still like to hear about problems with IE, and sometimes they are easy to fix.

hm, I will have to install Chrome myself to test. But the skin specifically pushes this down so it should work. That is more than odd. Is there something like Firebug for Chrome, a plugin to analyze the CSS ?

Well, pulling away isn't the right word. We got a bit bored somewhere in Moria and stopped playing, and when we thought "why not continue", so much time had passed that our accounts were gone. And we really, really didn't feel like doing the whole level 1 to level 60 thing again.
