Helpline / Re: Family History bug?
« on: April 25, 2013, 01:23:02 AM »
Based off of scanning the most recent bug reports and then searching all reports for the phrase 'family' and scanning again, I'd say no, there hasn't been a bug report. Please file one.

Multiing, in any form, violates the Social Contract (the one you signed when you agreed to play, and the one you sign again and again if you multi) and the trust between players, supposedly playing as friends, that you're dealing with different entities behind different families.

If you go to your Scribe Notes in Information, then copy the part under column Note Index, you can paste that in a message to your army, or whoever else, and send it. It should look something like this: [Scribe:224109|cbf290165f731835]   Battle in Mattan Dews

I don't think an automatic send to army is very useful. It just encourages more laziness and non-involvement from players when we should be trying to engage them to interact with each other.

Wiki / Wiki Team: Help Pages
« on: April 16, 2013, 12:06:08 AM »
We need to make sure the Help Category is properly fleshed out. These are the pages linked from within the game to provide assistance to the confused about said page.
Starting point:

Knowing which pages in the game lead to a help page will be useful in telling us what form of help we need to provide in a short-concise format.

Help Redirects to other page. I'm tempted to move the page it redirects to the help page and update all the links, but lower priority. First section is game page, second is wiki Help, third is where Help redirects to.
  • Adventurer.inventory.php, play-items.php, Adventurer.Gather.php, Adventurer.Selling.php, Adventurer.Buying.php -> Help:Items -> Adventurer/Items

Blank Help pages, high priority.
  • play.quests.php, Adventurer.Undead.php, Adventurer.Monsters.php, Adventurer.Investigate.php, play-adventure.php, Adventurer.Rest.php -> Help:Adventurer Actions
  • ShowFame.php -> Help:Fame

Needs cleaned up, medium to high priority
  • Rename.php - > Help:Actions (help image), Help:Name Changes (text link)
  • play-actions2.php, ChangeWorld.php, Bounty.php -> Help:Actions
  • play-paperwork.php -> Help:Paperwork
  • Allegiance.php, hierarchy.php -> Help:Hierarchy
  • MyGuilds.php -> Help:Guilds
  • Duel.php - > Help:Duels
  • PollVote.php -> Help:Referendum

Other
  • SwitchClass2.php -> Help:Classes (probably needs reworked because it seems more manually than abiding by contextual help)
  • GuildVisit.php -> Help:Religion
  • Academy.php - > Help:Academy
  • Adventurer.ShowRecoms.php -> Help:Recommendations
  • play-orders.php, Abandon.php, DropExtras.php, ArrestAdventurer.php, BuyExtras.php, Entertainment.php -> Help:Orders
  • play-settings.php -> Help:Troop Settings

Game pages to check: All Commands, Advy Items Exchange, Loot, Takeover, Raze Fortifications, Appearance, Civil Work, Police Work, Hang Rebels, Dig In, Hunt Enemies, Forage Battlefield, Leave Wounded, and many more...
Didn't list game pages that don't have contextual help. Should this be? Should we consider applying contextual help to every (or just more) pages?

Can a moderator please sticky this thread?

Wiki / Re: Battlemaster Wiki Team Proposal
« on: April 15, 2013, 08:16:43 PM »
Well, ahem. For those that remember me, I'm back and helping Tom out again, with a focus on the wiki. This thread was partially responsible for that. For those that don't, long-time player, first Community Manager, wiki editor, blah blah.

Of course, as we all recognize, its difficult to pursue alone with little coordination, so I'm going to be encouraging those that posted here earlier helping with wiki and Manual to get involved again, whether there's an official Wiki Team or not. For all intents and purposes, I'll consider anyone coordinating on this subforum to be on the Wiki Team. I'll be able to coordinate with devs on any new features coming through and updating the documentation appropriately.

Zaki, Unwin, Here's an old to-do list from years back. Its probably regressed quite a bit since I was last around though. http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/User:Bishamon_Family/Wiki_Clean-up_Project

However, as Indirik pointed out the Manual is the highest priority. This would be everything in the Manual Category. It needs to reflect the current code of BM so if while improving it, you're unsure of how something works, I'll be happy to answer any questions. Having been gone awhile, I'm still catching up somewhat though. Anaris is usually quite helpful in that regard as well. I'll be making a follow up thread shortly with lists of where I think the focus needs to be had. For now, here's some places to get started:

Also, we need to make sure the Help Category is properly fleshed out. These are the pages linked from within the game to provide assistance to the confused about said page. I remember stumbling across a few that went to blank pages so I'll be checking shortly to make sure all the Help pages link to are properly filled out, then inspecting them for quality and making another follow-up thread on those. For now, here's some places to get started:

I'll also be updating the Community Portal page and making sure each island page properly lists the living/lost realms & religions. But someone whose played more consistently more recently would probably be best to focus on those island pages so feel free to go ahead. I'll also be reaching out to Magistrates to make sure their verdicts have a nice public repository on wiki and is properly updated and easier to reference than forum posts.

I'll also be working with Solari to improve the UI in that we'd like to see the Manual page and/or others (still working it out) more readily accessible while logged in. Otherwise, Manual is not obviously visible at first glance without knowing to go back to battlemaster.org (honestly I never look at that since I just type in battlemaster.org/login.php) or visit the wiki. I think making it more apparent to people needing help would probably be useful in incorporating the game and the wiki together.

Overall, we'll also need to make sure that relevant pages are properly categorized. Its as simple as putting [[Category: Manual]] or [[Category: Help]] at the bottom of a page. Also, if you're going to be editing the wiki, please consider these:

Edit: Oh, and Sonya, other fluent spanish, dutch-speakers, and anyone interested in translating the manual to their language, I'll keep a record of which pages I/we consider up to par in the thread so you can begin translating those specific pages.

If any roleplayer-types would be interested in combing through the Introduction after we're done with manual, let me know.

Oh is it? Guess I'm still catching up. So if we leave the wiki alone long enough eventually you'll make it correct again for me by bringing back code? :P

What vonGenf wrote^

I actually just finished updating this manual page. Feel free to provide feedback or, considering its a wiki, actually improve it yourself. :)
