Helpline / Re: Commoner Questions
« on: May 04, 2019, 07:31:12 AM »
Vahanian's interpretation of the punishment Rania leveled was incorrect from the start. Antonia's was correct.

The relevant portion of the RP in question, which Dustole admitted he did not bother to read, features Rania announcing Stheno as her daughter and heir (lowercase) as a mere introduction to Obian high society. I used the word heir to indicate that, being so named and claimed, no one would miss the drama of the scenes that followed. I did say that she was going to become a knight, however, I knew how the story would end. Some of the participating nobles were already aware, of course, but this was not for their benefit. Rather, I was and am firmly establishing lore for a current, longstanding BM narrative project that remains ongoing.

In short, Rania never said Stheno would inherit her titles/power/legacy, etc. Nor did Rania ever say Zebidiah was no longer a noble or a knight. Also, the main evidence Zeb/Dusty used throughout were the family records that "proved" Stheno was a commoner. No, they "proved" Stheno started a life of adventure. Its semantics, yes, but apparently this entire matter started with semantics.

I have the entire RPs saved, if he'd care to read them now. They began in March.

So ends the life of Stheno, daughter of Rania.

Eva's really taken the reigns well. She seems to have all of Jessica's deftness, and more of her own traits besides. Let's hope her plan is to fill and widen the shoes of her predecessor!

Something about having "Grand" in the their title has had an unfortunate trend of effect on Obian council members...

"I am unsure I am what you call a daimon," Kyomi replied following a couple seconds of thought after his question, "though the Zuma do not seem to noticeably differentiate my presence any from that of the late Xo'ok, or even of that of Xuveziq."

"In regards to the 'Daimon Rulers of the Zuma', I cannot say what their purpose is or why they came here, as I was not paying attention when it happened. It is possible a different me was, or that I will be there in my future, but simply the me you see before you does not have a recollection of it."

She realized after a moment that this wasn't an answer, not that she had promised one, so added, "If I had to guess, I'd say many of them are simply here because the Zuma asked, however it is that one asks a being to breach the planes of existence. I do not imagine it was an easy feat for them."

"How about you, Ky?" Her focus swapping from the Not-Actually-A-Dragon King to her would be chauffeur, "A question, before bed?"

Pawl was listening to Kyomi from the top of the dinner table, leaning in to see her clearer. Her words were strong, even if her voice and stature were ones of a child.
And after carefully listening to her, Pawl answered.

"Kyomi, I can assure you that your visit was amusing for us too, so I am therefor pleased to hear that we are both seeing things similarly. And I am also pleased to have had the opportunity of being the first realm on Dwilight to ever welcome a Daimon for talks and dinner."

Pawl then clenched his fist and raised his eyes into the ceiling, while contemplating a bit on Kyomi's question.
"Well, that is certainly an interesting opportunity which you raise here! From my side, I would be more than interested in finding out what is the Zuma's and their Daimon Rulers purpose here on Dwilight?"

Inside has been fixed. Outside I don't think is ever going to happen?
*shrugs* I guess its a bit inconsequential now that I've seen the logic behind the nicknames

Between 'character details' and 'give medals' on the links below messages, add a Support/Propose Nickname link. This takes you to a page to propose a nickname for the other character, or to support an existing proposal. There can be multiple nickname proposals for every character in existence. Each character only gets to make one support-vote or proposal per other character. That is, Keplerman can either propose a new nickname for Evilman or support on an existing proposal, not both. Keplerman's support can be changed. When proposing a new nickname, a reason for that nickname must be provided, viewable to other voters. Which proposal a character proposes or supports is not public. There would be an ordered ranking of those with most to least support.A nickname will be displayed in the format GivenName 'Nickname' Surname. A nickname will not be displayed until a minimum threshold of support is achieved. When there are multiple proposals for character nicknames, the proposal with the most support will be displayed (presuming it has achieved the minimum display threshold). No multiple nicknames, only one nickname displayed at any given point in time. No identical nicknames, only one particular nickname at any given point per island. If Evilman and Naughtyman both have proposals to be 'the Ugly', then only the one who has more support will be allowed to use it. However, if Evilman has more support for 'the Ugly' than Naughtyman, but Evilman has even more support for being 'the Evil' for himself than 'the Ugly', then Naughtyman will be allowed to use 'the Ugly' because its not in active usage. If support for Evilman being 'the Ugly' surpassed support for 'the Evil', that would change. The current working idea for determining support is percentage of total prestige of active characters on the island, with a minimum threshold of 10%? 20%? to activate a nickname.Characters will have a 'refuse all nicknames' option that will opt out of all nickname displays, if someone doesn't want their character to have any nickname. Either accept the popularly-supported nickname or have no nickname at all.Nicknames will be subject to some rules to ensure appropriateness for BM (and SMA), as judged by the Titans. Some potential concerns are dealing with griefers and similar-but-not-identical nicknames, say 'the Great' and 'the Greatest', there should only be one form of such varieties.

I like this layout a lot. Seems to plug all the holes.

In the end my plans are unchanged. Just unduly delayed for no good reason.

Development / Re: 15 Nobles! 15!!!!

Then volunteer your time rather then putting more expectations and responsibility onto our volunteer devs.
This is not an add-on like the character page pictures or signature banners. This changes the way every player will have to interpret the game and it blindsided a lot of people, myself included. If the devs need someone to volunteer to post upcoming changes to the community, then I'll volunteer.
If a new realm fails for any reason, that's on the players of that realm and no one else. My experience with this game over the years that I have played, only 2 realms had more than 15 knights when I had a character join up.

From what I understand about what was kicked around on the discord, not that I knew I had to check there as well, was that this rule and the 15 number came as a result of discussions about what Dukes on EC were doing? I don't know the full story and im not sure it would change my opinion. i was personally IG victimized by an EC duke whose actions would have been blocked by this rule. But IMO a Duke being able to exercise their power to break off whenever they please was a MAJOR game component.

I figured out how you guys came to 15. it's just (exactly) the average of the number of nobles by the number of realms, minus the SI. However, I cant be sure (for reasons mentioned above) whether or not the matter of just how limiting this change would be was brought up and discussed. I don't think setting the average as the standard is reasonable. For example, there are only THREE realms at this time that CAN have a ducal secession under this new rule and still have a minimum of 15 nobles remaining and NONE of them are even on the same island. In fact, one island doesn't have a single realm that COULD and still have enough left over to maintain the mother realm. I realize that minimum remaining is not part of the rule, but it can certainly be inferred as part of the intent in the context of supporting the proliferation of "viable" realms. I think 15 is a reasonable goal for realms to shoot for, but not realistic in that it would require extraordinary effort to hit that right out of the gate rather than building to it on their own.

That said, now that it's been imlemented, I don't actually believe it should be removed entirely. Adjusted perhaps. Even 10 would have meant a world of difference.  Or even having an adjust scale so that a duke must carry at least a third of the realm or something. I worry that locking dukes in at 15 like this will only cause stagnation for little gain.

Kyomi chewed over her food and his words, or maybe just her food, for several awkward seconds, offering neither recognition that Pawl had been heard or that she was going to respond, before swallowing and offering input.

"Not a dragon then." She stated with some disappointment, "And misconceptions."

With that, Kyomi leaned back in her chair, a feat of some degree given the 40 or so degrees back it went without her feet actually touching the ground or the chair falling over, before looking at the ceiling for a few moments.

"I do not know if they are for me to clear up," she eventually followed, the chair leaning forward and returning to a normal position, "but I guess the visit has at least been amusing thus far, so one shall do no harm."

Reaching for one of the fruit on the table, Kyomi began, "While you may not like this being termed an investigation, I say it is such because that was how it was told to me. By doing so, I ensure that I am making clear my position here, not as a guest as I would otherwise be, but as one who is evaluating you."

"Before we conclude our meal and meeting though, I am curious. If either of you could have an answer to a question, what would the question you ask be?"

Roleplay from Pawl Paxwax Message sent to all nobles in Port Raviel (3 recipients) - 1 day, 2 hours, 58 minutes ago
Pawl was carefully listening to Kyomi talk, while slowly drinking from his cup. He always was a patient man, so the Daimoness was interesting for him to analyze, even amusing to some extent, especially as she had the form of a child now.

"Kyomi", Pawl replied with a strong voice, "Investigation it is then, though the word itself has some negative connotations here and I don't believe D'Hara is guilty of anything yet when it comes to dealing with the Zuma" he concluded. "But if you have a different opinion, I am more than welcomed to hear it out."

Then Pawl addressed her question: "You ask an interesting question Kyomi, what makes me a Dragon King. It is a title, meaning that whoever sits on the Dragon Throne of D'Hara, will be called like this. It symbolizes the authority invested in the respective person, in this case myself, as the person in charge with leading all D'Hara and its people. Why Dragon, you ask? Well, according to D'Hara's somehow long forgotten history, it is said that the isles here on which we live, also called the Tomb Isles, were a refuge place for Dragons and also a burial site. Some myths also say that the D'Harans were able to communicate and coexist in harmony with the Dragons, though no official records exist anymore. The Dragon has always been representative for D'Hara and its culture, so it is a symbol deeply rooted in our heart and mind. To some extent, I think you can actually draw a comparison between the D'Harans and the Zuma, as both cultures are connected to Dragons."

Then Pawl stopped for a second, paused, and continued: "I like to believe that I have inside me the strength our ancestors had, the strength of a Dragon. But not only that, even more, also their honor, courage and nobility. In time, given the circumstances, I like to think that we can learn more from one another, while showing that the Zuma can trust D'Hara and its people."

Kyomi debated the best way to eat the food that had been set before her. If she still had the form of a beast, she'd have debated just eating the entire thing, plate included. Somehow though, she suspected that it would look odd if a small dragon girl just took a bite out of the plate, so picked up a nearby utensil with her right hand and stabbed at... something, before making whatever it was disappear into her mouth. She even went so far as to chew and swallow, since they seemed appropriate.

"Surely the Dragon King, not to mention myself, should be sufficient for your research?" Kyryn Kye JeVondair inquired, while she ate.

"Investigation." She corrected, between one swallow and the next forkful.

"I suppose the difference means little to you both, though." She eventually mused, audibly, though it seemed mostly directed towards herself.

"To be honest, I'm not really sure what makes you a Dragon King." Her words this time turning towards Pawl, "Clearly, you command some level of authority and respect here, and your demesne might qualify him as a lesser King in some planes. If you were part dragon, or could take the form of one, then I'd understand..."

Her plate appeared to have been refilled--looking like a child had advantages--while she was talking by... someone? She wasn't actually sure, having been too focused on trying to keep her answers within the limits of mortal understanding. Either way, it meant more of whatever this actually was.

"Wait! Are you a dragon!?" She lit up. "That would be so neat! I've not talked to a dragon in aeons!"

Don't worry about it. Since Dukes don't have power anymore, this is pushed back indefinitely. Rania will be 90 before I hit Phase II now. Provided some other game mechanic ste back doesn't inhibit her further.

I'm not opposed to making more effort to bring major changes to forum for feedback, but thats not the same as overly bureaucratic policies like requiring every single item to be discussed on forum before approval.

The reason I am so upset is because, overnight, dukes now need FIFTEEN knights in their duchy to seceded. That changes a LOT.

Tweaks are one thing, but changes that with more wide-sweeping consequences for how the game is changed should not  just be dropped on us like it was yesterday. There should have been some sort of announcement somewhere and there was not. It may not have effected everyone like it did me, but it straight up ruined IRL months of planning and effort that, had I know the game mechanics were changing, I wouldnt have wasted all that time and energy on. Usually the roadmap announcements had this covered, yesterday it did not and that's the issue I'd like to see addressed.

For major changes like that, leaving the information buried in the bug tracker is insufficient. Even less players go there than the forums. If you want to use the discord, fine, but post it somewhere that doesn't get 50 new messages in an hour. This is hardly an "overly bureaucratic" request.

No more game changes that are only discussed on Discord.

Discord is not,and SHOULD NOT, be an acceptable place where game change features can go from concept to implementation. As it stands, major game changes can be railroaded through without the knowledge, or input, of the player base. Especially considering the nature of Discord and how swiftly even topics in shared channels can get lost.

See above. This is self-evident. Who thought that was a good idea?

Possible Downsides/Exploits:
None. None at all.

"My Lady"...Kyryn said at length, stressing the title as the servants began swapping out the dishes that were no longer as hot as they were meant to be, "I am quite sure that everyone who's anyone is already here. If not, then they've surely kept you waiting long enough."

Glancing once between his king and his guest, Rynn walked to the table and began preparing a large plate containing many of the morsels he'd noted earlier. Once finished, he edged the chair to the right of the Dragon Throne back from the  feast table, set the plate down before it, and gestured with an open palm for the daimoness to take a seat.

"Surely the Dragon King, not to mention myself, should be sufficient for your research?"
