Feature Requests / Rejected: Anonymous Messages
« on: May 23, 2017, 06:15:30 PM »
Summary: Battlemaster is not just about the battles, it's about the intrigue, and that's a facet of the game that I would love to see cultivated further. We already have options for Undergrounds and such, but these would not be suitable for more intimate interactions/scenarios. More times than I can count, I wish that I was able to send a message anonymously so that the recipient did not know it came from me or my character.

Details: We already have an option to pay gold to hide recipients. I want a more expensive option to hide the sender's identity in the same menu. I think it would be best if this option did not become available until after 100 days in realm. Another possible restriction is having it only available to characters in or near the same region as yours.

Benefits: I see this being used for everything from simple romances to plotting all-out rebellions. I feel it will add an exciting layer of mystery to the game. Since we already have the option to hide the recipients, this seems fair.

Downsides: Unfortunately, not all players are responsible or respectful. Anonymous messages could be abused, even with the 100 day and location limitations I suggested. In instances of true abuse or violations of the social contract being reported, I would hope that Titans would be able to pull message sent/received times to identify and punish the offender.

Feature Requests / Rejected: Legendary NPC Travelling Experts
« on: May 23, 2017, 05:40:42 PM »

Summary: So a thought occurred to me. What if, once your character maxes out a particular skill - which would be legendary- a new class option becomes available where you can chose for your character to become a wandering NPC that other characters can pay gold to learn from in much the same way mystic/sages work?

Details: So what I envision is that say your character gets to 100 in spellcasting. An option becomes available under the Change Class menu where, if you select it, your character retires and becomes an NPC, the character is no longer usable by the player and now operates on the same movement rules as Sages/Mystics and are granted a sagename by the devs, like Machiavel the Orator or somesuch. Unlike an Academy, if your character finds one of these experts and pays the fee for their teachings, your skill is guaranteed to go up. I think it would be really cool if there was a feature where the gold these Experts collect are sent directly to your family wealth. It would be interesting if only advy's could track these NPC's, same as they do sages, and then report on them to their noble benefactors, who will then try to reach the sage and learn from them before they vanish again. Maybe the Advy's can generate a report which they can then sell to nobles. We can either start fresh or players can volunteer past/current family members who have a 100 skill in something for consideration. Titan's could approve any such class-change request.

Benefits: Fresh idea provides another way for players to leave their mark on the game. Additional way to earn family wealth. Add's additional depth to Advy's and their interactions with nobility. In addition to adding this additional player goal, realms and characters will work together to find these rare experts and learn from them. I can't think of another game that allows you to, over the course of years, create a lasting, purposeful NPC.

Possible Downsides or Exploits: It is possible that the game could be flooded with these NPCs, but Titan's having the final determination should cinch it. There would be a whole lot of coding involved, as with all my ideas it seems. I'm bad at thinking of downsides.

Dwilight / Blast from the Past

So i was doing my own thing with my own wiki's when i decided to search for some Khari Kye related stuff. And that's when i struck unexpected gold. Someone put a lot of work into this and I knew I had to share it with the masses...

BM General Discussion / Family Trees
« on: May 17, 2017, 11:10:00 PM »
Every so often I find the urge to put some work into my family wiki's. I'd like to find a template for Family trees that the wiki will support. Can anyone more wiki-savvy point me in the right direction?

Would it be possible to add the current CS of an army to the "Armies you are sponsoring" Details field under Army Sponsorship?

Feature Requests / Rejected: Family Fame Breakdown
« on: May 17, 2017, 05:21:17 PM »
I could not find whether or not this had been requested before, but would it be possible to have a page displaying your family accomplishments in terms of the Family Fame points? Perhaps accessible from the Player Page?

Feature Requests / Approved: Add Enslavement to Troop or TO Options
« on: April 28, 2017, 12:00:46 AM »
Summary: Slavery
 Details:

  • Of all the despicable things we can do in game (Pillaging, genocide, rape) It occurs to me that one glaring option is missing: Taking Slaves. Let’s face it, it happened, a lot. History is full of those dirty details. My idea is that instead of stealing food, players can select the slavery option to steal a region’s population and add it to their own home region (perhaps at a cost to region morale/control). Conversely, it could also be a TO option where if you enslave 2/3s of the population, the region flips. Perhaps that would be a FAST brutal TO option, but with a high likelihood of the region revolting.
Benefits:

  • If you did not want realism, then rape and genocide would not be a part of the game. Since they are, this should be too. I want to see players, good and evil, justify or vilify slavery. From a mechanics standpoint, I see it as being less effective at depleting regional populations then genocide, for example, but much faster a driving down regional control and inspiring peasant mobs.
Possible Downsides or Exploits:

  • Honestly I’m not certain how this could be exploited. Any other downside I might list is kind of superseded by the fact that rape is supported in the game (ie player emotions).

Feature Requests / Rejected: World Wonders
« on: April 27, 2017, 10:27:58 PM »
Summary: Build a Wonder
Details:
  • We play in a game where War is not always fun and expansion is not always possible, or even worthwhile. I’d like to give players, as realms, another thing to work toward. I think that if a realm comes together and dedicates a large amount of resources to building something cool, maybe there should be something in the game that supports it. I want to take something that is normally covered in roleplay concepts and implement it the same way statues and monuments have been implemented, just on a larger scale and with some in-game benefit that would be randomly assigned by the Devs, like in Sid Meier’’s Civ games. The cost of a world wonder would be tremendous, I mean like 100k gold, and I envision wars being fought over their possession. One Wonder might significantly boost food production, reduce paganism or monster spawns, improve morale in all of the owner’s regions, provide an amazing low-cost RC, maybe one allows for the repair of magical items, preventing the opening of Portals or casting of spells in any of the owners regions, or perhaps it will guarantee human safety from Daimons and Rogues. I feel like for the effort, all of them would provide at least a small boost to the owner’s regional taxes.
Benefits:
  • I feel like the benefit to players would be obvious, it ads a whole new dimension to roleplay, for sure, but also on a national scale. Crusades to capture or defend these amazing works could redefine gameplay and international politics. A Wonder would be built in a region, just like a statue or a monument, and it’s description would be written by the players and approved by the Devs or Titans. Realms would have to REALLY dedicate themselves, and even then it would take almost a full year IRL, and many years in game (which sounds realistic, actually) to accomplish this. Players always want to leave their mark on the game…imagine slapping your name on one of these! And their could even be Tiers like 1-5, the higher the better benefit and the greater cost of course...like 100kx(1-5). It would not be milestone build process like fortifications, but a one-payment sort of deal.
Possible Downsides or Exploits:
  • As with most of my ideas, adding this option will probably mean a tremendous amount of work for the devs, but I imagine that since the vehicle for statues and monuments already exist, the only thing that would really be added here is the national benefits a Wonder provides. I do think that players may complain if they don’t get the benefit they are hoping for if the decision is left only to the devs, but I feel as though communication and working together should resolve that. Considering the literally unheard of costs I am suggesting, I don’t see how this could be easily abused. Of course, what if a player who has amassed the realm's wealth then deletes the character or something? that would really suck. Of course, if the absconded with the dough and defected to another realm...well...that adds a whole other flavor of RP...

Feature Requests / Rejected: War Games
« on: April 27, 2017, 10:10:03 PM »
Summary: Friendly Unit Battles!

Details:
  • Instead of one noble fighting another, what about a nobles leading their units against each other in mock skirmishes? I figure this option could be added to the duel-request drop down like Surrender  => Death => War Game or maybe have it as a separate option altogether adjacent to duels and also including the Surrender (in which case your soldiers don’t actually die) or To the Death (in which case, well, they do.) Eventually, I’d love to see this idea expanded to tournaments one day (Swordfigthing, Jousting, Unit battles!), or maybe even whole friendly armies clashing.
Benefits:
  • Players talk a lot of smack, be it with realm mates, allies, or what have you. But they tend to avoid duels (and for very good reasons!) I think adding this option would added an additional layer to roleplay. Not everyone’s a duelist, but the game does not revolve around 1v1 battles, at least not often. What if a player has poured tremendous amounts of time and energy into crafting a great unit and wants to see how it goes against someone else?
Possible Downsides or Exploits:
  • I have a running bet with myself that the first critique I will see is that “Its called BATTLEmaster for a reason!” Yeah, well, not every island is the War Island. As with most of my ideas, adding this option will probably mean a tremendous amount of work for the devs, and there is no guarantee that it will be fully embraced or utilized by the player base.

Feature Requests / Rejected: Civic Expansion
« on: April 27, 2017, 09:38:10 PM »
Summary: Improve your region
Details:
  • With this change, I envision regional lords being able to invest in their regions in order to improve stats like food production, peasant population or revenue per capita. I don’t think this would require significant change to existing code, I imagine it could be done simply by adding new buildings like farms, villages, or windmills. To avoid abuse, we can tack on prohibitive costs, include a damage meter like fortifications have, or set a cap on how many Improvement buildings can be added to a region
Benefits:
  • Players are always looking for personal goals, one of which is leaving their mark on a game. It feels good to carve your initials on to something, and it feels better to really be able to dictate changes in your region. Players who are not city lords don’t really have much to do, I think this would improve their game a lot. I also believe that it will add a new, vibrant layer of interaction and overall-realm management.
Possible Downsides or Exploits:
  • Now I do realize that Changing of region types (including building or destroying cities) has been mentioned and shot down before. I get that and the reasons for it. I can also see how wealthy patrons could finance improvement projects and sort of power a region through development.

Beluaterra / Sacred Obia'Syela
« on: April 27, 2017, 04:51:28 AM »
First conceptualized in late 2015, this project has been in the works for a while, waiting for an ideal confluence of events before taking shape. There is a long-term, epic plan that I have in store, assuming the realm survives long enough or thrives well enough. But for those of you who see my posts, I challenge you to find the last time I ever described anything as epic.

Anywho, here's the wiki I hashed together that describes the events immediately leading up to the realm's creation. I hope you all enjoy what I have in store.

Dwilight / Multiple Characters
« on: April 23, 2017, 03:56:55 PM »
I know that traditionally Dwilight was the island of singletons, but I feel that given it's current density, it could benefit by having players double up. Even with the island cut in half, there is a lot of empty space out there. Was curious to see what folks thought.

Development / New Realm Banner/Icon
« on: February 28, 2017, 12:29:14 AM »
Hi Folks,

I was not sure where to place this exactly, so I apologize if it does not belong here, but I am inquiring as to the status of a new banner we uploaded some weeks ago and wanted to get an idea of what the approval process was for new banners and icons in general.

Thanks!

Helpline / Character Gen Question
« on: January 03, 2017, 04:49:58 PM »
Hi All,

I was trying to make a new character using special characters and received the following message:

Error: Your character name does not conform to acceptable standards. Please do not use numbers or special characters. We also do not allow national accent characters because this is an international game and other players may not have the character set to display them.

Now the name I was hoping for was Ayden Tórrarin. I'm assuming the acute accent is the special character that is being referred to? I have seen this supported in game regularly, even as part of character names, so I am wondering if this is just a bug?
