Atamara / Re: Atamara's Fate
« on: May 05, 2016, 09:09:19 PM »
It was WAY beyond conversations actually.

And if you'd read what I wrote you would have seen that.

The war had already started.  The Federation was broken.  Two new nations had already appeared and a third was about to happen.

Most of the realms on the island were at war.  Actually, I think ALL of them were.

I understand that a lot of people left Atamara because it became PeaceMaster.  The rulers figured that out and did what they had to do to fix it.  I recognize that the changes in Atamara were too slow and too late for those who had left the island.  I've seen the hatred and vitriol that some people aim at the island.  But what they hated was gone.  What they hated was not what the devs sunk.

Comparing the continent they left to the continent the devs sunk is ignoring all the evidence of what happened on Atamara.  It is ignoring all the work the players went through to make it fun again.

The devs sunk an island rushing headlong into total war.  Armies, made of players, were marching in the far north, the far south, and all over the middle of Atamara.  And that is the whole idea of BattleMaster.

Sorry dude.

But the suggestions of Daimon-loving Spearhold will not be followed.

If the devs want to force us to worship Daimons if we are to play on Beluaterra they will lose their player base REAL FRAKING FAST...

Dwilight / Re: Monster Problems
« on: May 05, 2016, 08:32:21 PM »
My character had fought monsters and Daimons on Beluaterra.

And then he was involved in the long campaigns of the ramping up of the wars in Atamara.

He had been fighting most of his life against this and that.

What happened in Dwilight was just so different from everywhere else he had played as to make him unplayable.

He was perfectly playable and active everywhere else I had played him.  The moment he went to Dwilight though, the wounding and bandit slapping until I couldn't hardly move more than an hour or two before being sent into a coma began.  That is unplayable and I am unhappy that the mechanics of the game forced me to retire the character.  He was a hero.  In charge of cavalry.  Something should have been able to kill him at least once in all the years I sent him against bad things...

Instead I had to retire him because bandits kept on sending him into a coma.  That is simply not a fun way to see a good character go down.

I have always assumed that part of the Netherworld's massive effort to capture large swaths of territory is a prelude to another Blight to change the shape of Beluaterra again.

My assumption has been that everything south of Creasur would probably be wiped out, along with some of the northern areas.

And the way things are looking now, Creasur and its environs will also probably be gone.

Rather sad from my POV since Creasure/Foda has been my primary home as long as I've been playing BattleMaster...

One of the things that amazed me about Dwilight is JUST HOW OFTEN my character got wounded.

And as he was an older character forced to emigrate when Atamara was sunk a scratch would put him in a coma for a week.  And he got attacked EVERY TURN it seemed like.

He was next to the capital and his unit got smashed and him wounded.  When he finally woke up from the coma and started walking, he started getting attacked by rogues every turn.  And scratched or wounded.  And sent into a coma.  Wake up.  Start walking.  Get attacked.  Sent to coma.  Rinse, repeat, ad nauseum.  It took me weeks to get to the capital.  From the region next door to it.

I've never seen anything like that before.  I just deleted the character in the end because the game made him unplayable here on Dwilight.  Started over with a new one, and I'm waiting for him to grow up enough honor and prestige to be able to lead a decent unit into battle.

The ONE good thing about all the monster attacks is at least honor and prestige go up fast.  But fighting monsters sure isn't as interesting as fighting humans.  At least with humans you know you've got minds on the other side that you are trying to outwit.

Beluaterra is running into that issue now, with all the interesting human wars put on hold until the devs get done with whatever monster game they're playing and let us get back to backstabbing each other like proper nobles.  ;)

Atamara / Re: Atamara's Fate
« on: May 05, 2016, 09:21:55 AM »
I was a common noble when CE, Tara, and Talerium "won" the last of the major wars.  I had a lot of fun going out and marching and killing bad guys.  ;)

Fast forward some time and when the Tyrant disappeared, I became the new Tyrant of Tara.  I took one look at the diplomatic situation on the island from the eyes of a ruler who is supposed to give his players a fun time and realized that it wasn't setup that way.  And so I spent the entire year of my Tyrancy first stabilizing Tara and making it an effective realm again, and then began working to break up the CE/Taran alliance.

As a player, I wanted it dead.  Gone.  Buried.  But at the same time I (and especially my character Regstav) were loyal to CE.  Regstav fought when Tara had three regions and it was CE that saved our butts time and again.  So there was no way that Regstav would just drop them.  He owed them way too much for that.

But others agreed that the CE/Taran alliance needed to be broken for the good of the game, including the previously-mentioned "Old Guard" in the League of the Eagle.  We came up with some very interesting ideas that would have broken the League up rather well.  Never agreed on any of them, but we were talking in the right direction.  Heck, I was pushing HARD for an idea that would have broken Tara into three different realms with two cities each.  Point is, we all agreed that things had to change.

Then the Strombanians lit another fuse by doing what they did best.  Insulting people and then saying "come at me bro if you dare face CE."

At which time I responded with a "don't mind if I do" and dropped Tara out of the Federation.  And considering all the work I'd done over the last year to improve relations between Tara and the non-CE realms, I'm pretty confident Tara would have survived.  Oh, there was always a chance one of my new allies and friends would have stabbed Tara in the back.  It had happened before.  It could happen again.

I judged it worth the gamble though.  Even if Tara died, I considered it worth getting the game going and exciting again.  Now what I WANTED was to break CE and Strombran, see a return of Carelia in the Strombanian regions, and break up Cagil into some bite sized chunks.  Then break up Tara.  I was about "this" close to just handing Shanandoah over to Minas Leon.  I had plans to get one or two of the Taran dukes to secede and start their own realms.  Or maybe I would have stepped down as Tyrant and done my own secession.  ;)

Either way, I had lots of plans to break the power of Strombran, CE, and Tara and they were going along very nicely and turning the whole island on its head.  And I never could have done any of it without the help of the other rulers and high muckitimucks in the League of the Eagle.  I don't think I've ever seen a group of players agree to destroy everything they've worked to build all because they knew it was best for EVERYBODY who played the game.  Not that well at least.  They pulled the trigger and it was game on.  Made me proud to be one of their number.

It was a good game and it was a good time.

I'm sorry that outside people decided to end it before we found out how it was going to play out.

Atamara / Atamara's Fate
« on: April 29, 2016, 10:47:21 AM »
Yeah, some people said Atamara was a !@#$hole.

You know what?

Some people were wrong.

I first started playing on Atamara.  And Atamara is one the place I always kept one or two characters because for me it was the funnest of the islands.

Did it slow down a bit?  Yes.  One alliance did the one thing that BattleMaster is designed to not allow.  They won.  Seriously, the way the game pushes things to degrade in time and everything about it is designed to break up large realms and alliances.  But through ingenuity and determination and a lot of smarts the alliance BEAT EVERYBODY ELSE.  They literally beat the system.  That is what some people didn't like about the continent.  There were clear winners and losers in a game that is supposed to stop that from happening.

In the case of Atamara it took the players to self-police and break the alliance up.  Which we did.  Atamara was crashing and burning into a continent-wide civil war when the Devs nuked everything.  Years of gaming and scheming on the best map the game has just deleted and taken away from the players.

My hope is that sometime we can get that map back, either through restoring Beluaterra back to the Pre-Blight status, or by resurrecting Atamara entirely.

I ended up deleting the character and starting over.

The game made it almost impossible to play him so I did what I had to in order to be able to get back to playing again.

*shrugs*

I've actually got a soft idea that has been tickling the back of my mind...

Have him say something about it being time to go home to Daishi.

Pause and send him to graveyard.

Create a new character who wakes up with memories of having seen Daishi and being sent back to continue his work.  And claiming the same name.

Could make for some interesting role playing...;)

East Island / Re: Oligarch gang-bang
« on: April 02, 2016, 06:02:39 AM »
Oligarch has been doing fairly well so far.

We lost a couple of our farthest regions to each Sirion and Caligus, but as always happens in war the further they have to go the harder it is for them.

Basically, if you can maintain a good army it is very hard for another nation to march within a day of a capital and maintain their strength when you sally out to meet them.

Oligarch was able to expand easily while fighting just Sirion.  Caligus has made that less easy, but our losses have been minor and we may have stabilized matters once more.

The recent smashing of a Caligus takeover and then instant march to wipe out a Sirion takeover was a very well done one-two punch for instance and shows that Oligarch is a rather hardy little target for those who wish to look on them with avarice...

Dwilight / Re: Bandits in Dwilight

I've had no more than 20 gold on hand...I'm down to under 10 gold now.

And I'm in a coma now after having just arrived in the capital...so it will be another few days before I can recruit a unit.

Now for full information he is a very old character.  He might even be over 100.  He was the first character I created in BattleMaster, in Foda, in Atamara.  And he was the last ruler of Tara when the island sank.  He's been a hero most of his life, even when fighting Daimons, and every enemy he's thrown himself at has failed to kill him.

But I get a scratch now from these bandits that are hitting him one after another and he goes into a coma for days.  And he only gets 5 hours a day...3 if wounded.  And he has been either wounded or in a coma for the last I don't know how many weeks.  It's seemed like forever.

A part of me feels like it might be time to pause him.  But I really want the guy to go out in a blaze of glory.  It's just that nobody's been able to kill him in all the years I've played him...

And it really sucks in these "one character per island" times that I'm not contributing at all to the realm I'm in while he's spending all his time in a coma.

Dwilight / Bandits in Dwilight
« on: April 01, 2016, 06:52:14 PM »
Hey guys.

I've got a question about the bandits in Dwilight.

Are they more numerous or something?

I have a character who recently emigrated to Dwilight after the devs sunk Atamara and he had a cavalry unit in Black Mountain when the Daimons attacked.  He is a hero but they just wounded him, wiped out his unit, and left him in a coma for a week.

I have since been trying to get back to the capital of my realm, which is right next to the mountain.  I have been attacked by bandits and dropped into a coma every single time I recover to be able to move again.  I finally, this morning, after what feels like weeks of travel in real life, finally made it to the capital, and was instantly attacked and sent into a coma by bandits AGAIN.  In the capital.

Now I'm used to bandits being a slight problem.  Something that may show up in every other region or so as you are making your way home from lost battle.  Just like there is a chance of getting captured after your unit is wiped.

But I have never seen an organized campaign of banditry so effectively and routinely exercised that it would make a character spend weeks in real life to get from one region to the region next to it.

I would have been home weeks ago if I had been captured by the Daimons, held for a week, and then sent home.

Instead, my character has been in a coma, for 2 to 5 days, he wakes up with vastly reduced hours for maybe one turn, he starts to move, and then is put down by another bandit group immediately for another 2 to 5 days.

Is this normal in Dwilight because I've never seen anything like it before in all my years of playing this game...

Oh...absolutely.  Assumptions and jumping to conclusions is all part and parcel of that.  I could very well be wrong about some or even all of it.

My statement is what it FEELS like to the players.
