Development / Treat really old accounts with care
« on: April 05, 2018, 06:20:23 PM »
So it seems that old accounts are deleted after half a year (?) of inactivity.
This is understandable since we need to keep the database clean.
But can we at least differenciate a little bit and be smart about cleaning up? If someone spent a few months playing a game and then disappeared - sure, delete the account in half a year. But if someone's been playing for several years, maybe give him a longer grace period? There are not that many accounts who's been around for years, we can safely keep them for a bit longer.
I think it's obvious that preservation (or the lack of thereof) of the old account can sway the decision of a potential returning player.

Development / Messenger delay
« on: April 05, 2018, 03:43:02 AM »
Stop treating IG messages as instant messaging.
Simulate messages actually being carried from the sender to the recipients.
As dedicated messengers move much faster than nobles and their retinues, let's give messenger a virtual 24 hr pool. Meaning that messages within a few regions will still be delivered on the same turn. Messages travelling three and more regions away will arrive with a delay of at least one turn. Messages across the continent will take weeks to arrive.

What does this accomplish apart from irritating the haters?
Huge realms become a real pain to defend which levels the field somewhat for small agressive kingdoms.
Marshals become actually important as the general will not always be able to coordinate separate armies efficiently.
Super-active realms no longer get a massive upper hand due to coordinated moves across the front 10 minutes before the turn end.
The game becomes more about strategic planning and mind games for generals and more about difficult on the fly tactical decisions for marshals.

Feature Requests / Borrowing from M&F
« on: October 20, 2016, 04:34:59 AM »
There actually are certain features in M&F that I find brilliant and worth implementing in BM.
Among them bloodlines, family trees and marriages. Why don't we have those yet?
Also character descriptions and heraldry. Is it too hard to implement?

Feature Requests / Rumours
« on: July 10, 2016, 10:12:32 PM »
It seems the players often find themselves in a vacuum especially when playing in small realms or realm with inconsequential/not too active leaders. Even in bustling realms you often have no idea what's happening in remote realms.

I suggest a mechanic of spreading rumours across the continent. They can be anything, from playful RP matters to more serious internal or global news. Like "There is a rumour coming from [insert realm] that the recent rebellion though being stillborn caused much fuss at the court and led to several unexpected political decisions."

To prevent this from getting out of hand, make this an expensive feature, like 100 coins per message. Not the best solution, maybe there's a better one.
I think the feature is interesting in spirit but I am not sure how to implement it properly. Thoughts?

Beluaterra / Thug life
« on: June 07, 2016, 03:25:43 AM »
So I've been recently tossed into daimonic dungeon and immediately got bored. I found out you can talk to other prisoners and turned out others were also bored. So basically we are now conspiring to form an avengers society once we get out.

Any advice on how to pull that off? I'm not sure, but I suspect prison correspondence is not saved once we leave prison, no? Will we at least have each other as contacts? Who can create guilds and how?

Newbie Board / Removing titles
« on: May 28, 2016, 07:52:38 AM »
Let's say I'm a Duke/King of a realm and there are some landed nobles who just sit there and send gold to their families and do not even respond to my letters. How do I remove them from their positions?

BM General Discussion / Firebrand society
« on: May 19, 2016, 01:05:38 PM »
After reading a lot of discussions about the dreaded status quo that settles in and chokes all fun I've put a lot of thought into inventing mechanical leverages to prevent this.
But recently it dawned on me that the most effective way to battle the stagnation would in fact be to create a coalition of like-minded players who would try to reshape the political landscape of various continents. There are a lot of people who yearn for action and they just need to coordinate their actions globally to be effective.
Even if this will end up being not feasible, we at least will have some numbers to congregate in the same realm and create some fun for ourselves and the rest of the server. "Losing" is actually not a huge issue if fun is what you ultimately seek.
The only issue I see here is potential for metagame but I am sure being mature players we can avoid that easily.
Can I have your thoughts on this?

East Island / Invasion.

Three portals at once?
Either we've got three adventurers somehow coordinating their efforts in three very remote realms or there's someone else's malevolent will behind all this.  :-X

Helpline / Managing Duchies
« on: July 05, 2015, 04:36:58 PM »
So I've got two Duchies in the realm where I'm a ruler and both are without Dukes.
"Govern the Duchies" page doesn't look right.
It only shows one Duchy and there are no options to actually appoint Dukes and I do not really understand how renaming Duchies is supposed to work. What am I missing?

Please help.

Helpline / Lost Guildhall
« on: June 05, 2015, 09:58:00 AM »
As the previous lord passed me the ownership of the region he also made me an elder of a secret society existing in that region.
Afterwards I checked that society had no other members sans me and no other guildhouses, so it was sort of pointless. So I decided to leave the society and raze the guildhouse.
But after I left the guild I realized I can no longer see the guildhouse, hence can not raze it.
What happens to secret societies with no members? Do they just hang on there hidden and useless forever? Do I still have to pay rent for the hidden guildhouse as a region lord?

Any reason to disallow that?

Development / We need more platforms for player interaction
« on: May 27, 2015, 11:09:54 PM »
On several continents right now there is a movement for partitioning larger realms into smaller ones and promoting local conflict. At first I thought it was a great idea. But then I realized with horror that it would mean we will be trapped with only a handful of players to consistently interact with. And even now smaller realms are robbed of the luxury of reading lots of quality roleplay reportedly thriving in such leviathans as Luria.
We need means to involve more people in interaction and tournaments proved to be an insufficient platform for that.

I suggest creating more channels. Right now the largest circle you can reach out to is your realm (half a dozen people in many cases). Why not create alliance-wide channels? Continent-wide even for roleplay back-and-forth at least?
Of course we can make it optional, toggleable on and off.

Thoughts?

Region Lost to Corruption   (36 minutes ago)
message to all nobles of X
Local government officials in Y announced earlier today that according to ancient documents, A, a noble from Z, who happened to coincidentally be in the region at that time, holds an ancient and undisputable claim to lordship of Y.
They officially handed control of the region over to him and Z! Shortly afterwards, the responsible officials were nowhere to be found.

What kind of mechanic is that? How does that happen?

BM General Discussion / East Continent vs. Far East
« on: April 24, 2015, 07:05:10 PM »
These two islands look almost identical and share the same design flaws, both maps being dominated by leviathans in the north. But I've heard there is some quality roleplay there and no shortage of war. Which isle is actually more fun to play on? Maybe there are specific nations that are on the rise right now?
Give me some pointers, guys.
