Honestly, I'd be willing to accept a style change for the ability to modify maps easily.

East Island / Re: Magic On EC
« on: December 22, 2016, 01:30:02 AM »
I actually find this to be more exciting and enjoyable. Honestly a war can have a period of dull marching back and forth to and from battle, so having these unexpected events occur is very fun. That and the fact that all of the events I've seen from portals have been extremely random. I mean, one of them had a horde of random mob enemies attack the very place it was meant to save (speaking of Donghaiwei during the HD vs Astrum war). If portals became just RP events only, then you'd have the same issue that you have with religion, where it doesn't even matter for the most part and no one bothers to participate.

Also, low fantasy does not mean no magic. It means that it does not have all the attributes of high fantasy. So magic does exist, and can have effects, but it is by no means available to the average person and requires extraordinary measures to bring about. The main focus in Battlemaster in a low fantasy sense is instead on the fact that other species do not exist, with an arguable exception of Outer Tilog and Sirion. And even then, you could say that Outer Tilogians are just insane and the Sirion has humans who cut their ears weird in some sort of culture oddity, when looking from the outside in. In addition, battles are not decided by magic, but by strength of arms in the traditional medieval sense.

That is what makes it low fantasy, not this misconception that it has to have a complete absence of magic or supernatural occurrences.

Heh too bad GX is an outlier.

Maybe if certain realms followed their example...

You were there before the realm's units, right? That makes you the defender, and as others pointed out, "you cannot attack if you have already been declared a defender" move to another region if you want to engage them/continue looting. ;)

I moved there while my units were set to murderous from my own territory. Sorry, but no, your scenario is not what happened. So please don't give me a patronising explanation. I've been around here for a long time, I know what causes defender status, thank you.

This sounds like a top secret mission  ;D

For the choicest meatsacks to send to our torture farms, of course.

50
This is incorrect. Murderous overrides all diplomatic settings.

However, it still has limitations. You cannot attack if you have already been declared a defender, and sometimes the process of declaring defenders can be a bit zealous.

Furthermore, murderous or not, combat or not, has no effect on whether you can loot another realm. That is entirely determined by diplomatic status.

I can loot the realm in question, but only if I can clear the troops of that region. I can't do that if I can't engage them. So it isn't a matter of diplomatic status.

51
So my character, let's just call him Bob, wants to loot the lands of a realm that is peaceful with his. Brimming with excitement, he tells his meatsa-*ahem*soldiers to be murderous. However, this fails to initiate combat even when only he and that realm's troops are in the region. Could someone please tell me if this is correct behaviour?

I think I might have been (one of) the first to accidentally blow themselves up trying to use demolition charges back in the day... good times.

Remember kids, you should never spend all your hours with demo charges, they don't like having so much attention or being in such large groups, and will explode at you from shy embarrassment.

Starfall was mad at you, wasn't he?

He was quite livid about my blatant disrespect, enough so to make up me spying as an excuse to ban me.

Kuriga, who was then Lord of Itor Bass and general of Alara, defected from Alara to GX and told them Alara was prepping for War with GX.
Alara was surrounding GX with a web of Alliances and eventually provoked GX, who wanted the war anyway, into attacking (super summary)

The Southern War has lasted 6 IG years now, started in jan 2016

To be fair, I only defected after the ban, not before. :3

I like CK2 over EUIV. EU never felt that good to me.

Have you played it since the Rights of Man DLC? If not, I highly HIGHLY recommend you give it another try, as this really makes a huge difference in gameplay for the better.

Since a primary ingredient is gasoline or something similar, no.

Actually naphtha was pretty common in medieval times when it came to warfare. Especially in the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire, where they used "greek fire" as a primitive fire grenade (effectively a molotov cocktail, except probably stickier). During the Song Dynasty of China (960-1279AD), black powder was actually packed into metal containers, marking the beginning of the modern hand grenade.

So they might not be the industrial weapons that we have today, but they did exist and were used in the medieval time-period. The technology was there and easy to make.

BM General Discussion / Re: Donation page
« on: December 04, 2016, 07:19:34 AM »
The donation page is a little outdated.

direct bank transactions can now be made threwout the EU and more and more outside the EU as well, free of charges up to 50 K euros.

the current text sketches a difficult situation, where as thanks to the new iban system, its actually very easy to make direct money transfers.

More info on the system and a list of countries that use it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Bank_Account_Number

the current text almost discourages direct money transfers, instead we should actually encourage it and include in the text a reference to IBAN with an IBAN bank acount number.
Infact Toms previous postbank bank acount now is an IBAN acount by default as its mandatory within the EU economic area.
The bank acount number should be put on the donation page, so anyone interested in donating can just copy paste the acount number and donate what ever they want.
To keep up administration, a note can be added with the transaction where the family name of the donator is stated so goodies can be given to the right player.

Amazing what people don't realize the EU system as a whole does for them individually, let alone on an economic level.

-snip-

You realize that D'hara's position currently is completely unassailable, except by monsters who don't follow the same recruitment rules as player realms, right? So I'd definitely take a stronger D'Hara that CAN be attacked to a weaker one that can't. It also works in reverse, D'Hara is hard pressed currently to take part in any offensive actions on land thanks to the desert just outside their mainland regions and the rest of the Island requiring them to sail over seas to attack.
