But despite them, these major empires are upheld. Realms like Ibladesh and Sirion are just too large (in a fun to play aspect).

But maybe the penalties is not where the problem lies. Maybe something else that encourages more secessions. Like somehow giving the secessions increased likelihood of surviving.

Player culture. They already have enough incentive to break off, but chose not to. There's a limit to how far we should go to force people to act as we think they should. If they don't want to break away, no amount of penalties will change this.

I already did, but that D'harian bast*** is ignoring me lolz :P

Are you referring that that vague narrative about how you noticed my char come in? Didn't seem like there was much to react to, if it's the one I was thinking about. :P

I dunno, I feel the size penalties pretty well. I don't think we need them to be stronger.

Feature Requests / Re: Free and instant realm scout reports?
« on: June 18, 2011, 05:40:21 AM »
As Chénier already mentioned, scout reports DO give more detailed information than can be otherwise acquired. If a foreign army was operating inside of a realm, I am sure that the realm would be actively scouting them and not simply rely on the information provided in the region details.

It only makes sense to me that there are networks upon networks of informants at work within the realms borders. As a prominent noble I would expect my staff to provide me with such information. Sure, all the little details of how all this information is gathered and distributed might be fuzzy, but that just leaves room for role playing how the information came into your hands.

One thing another thread made me think of, however, is that perhaps scout reports should also tell the movement of nobles without units. Even with an army of scouts you can't predict the movement of infils without units.

Beluaterra / Re: next invasion

That's true. And it has been said before, like on the first Community site forums.

The 4th Inv announcement said as well:

"The reason for an announcement is that we will be changing the rules. We do not guarantee a human victory this time. Our NPC sides have been set up with pre-determined, limited resources (and income, just like human realms). They are balanced for a fair, but tough fight. And they may win. If they do, you may lose part, or even all, of Beluaterra."

As well, there were times when Tom might have hinted that he desired BT to be wiped, but this is unsubstantiated, and unless he gives some statement, should not be taken as fact. I do not think he would say anything about it though, since that would artificially influence the continent's dynamics.

He vaguely mentioned once or twice that we might eventually need to close a continent due to declining player numbers. Players, I believe, are the ones who speculated/assumed he meant Beluaterra, as it'd be the one with a most logical means of destruction.

Now that I think of it, though, why weren't the war islands wiped by daimons? It's kinda lame that the islands "sunk", and I always thought the RP around that was completely impossible and hollow. Destruction by battle would have been a fitting end.

Except that half of your eastern island is rogue. That is a monster nest.

Speak for yourself, mister know-it-all. Rogues are so infrequent in D'Hara that we suffer from too much peace in-between the spawns. The east is not a monster nest, it's a line of very few regions that lead to our walls in Nebel.

And we used to hold the whole isles. I think loss of nobles is the main reason we haven't reclaimed them, yet.

So....intentionally being stubborn about it. You know, this isn't the only place on Dwilight where you've been rather stubborn to the facts...

No... I don't really give a !@#$ about SA as a player. Not caring for the facts and not buying them aren't the same thing.

And because, you know, I can differentiate my characters from myself, perhaps? SA isn't the best religion around, and often is used in simplistic arguments to manipulate debates on religions, but they at least play by the same rules and game mechanics as everyone else.

What I'm saying is not to get all emotional to defend the honour of SA in this conflict OOC, it'd be the equivalent of going to someone who doesn't give a !@#$ about politics to preach to him about how much better your political party is than your rival's. You just can't sway someone who doesn't care.

I think any city on the water is a great place to be on Dwilight.  The water gives you natural boundary to keep monster away.  So much easier when you don't have to defend such a large frontier.

I didn't pick Shadovar for nothing.  8)

We were patient. As an outsider, you really have no idea what happened and how long this process was. I appreciate that the end result was not good PR (due in no small part to efforts by Thulsoma's players to spread misinformation), but this affair went on for months. Most people outside the north probably didn't hear about it until it reached the epic proportions that it did at the very end, which took a long time. We eventually grew tired of being insulted and mocked and stalemated on level 7 walls that they never should have had in the first place if they weren't abusing game mechanics. I'm sure that the closing of the loophole had an effect on the war, but honestly I don't even know when that happened in relation to everything else. Do you know why? Because I treated it IC the entire time. We thought they would be easily dispatched. We were wrong. So, we gradually escalated things until we were forced to bring in the full force of 3-4 realms just to end things. This is not in any way a testament to Thulsoma, rather it is an indication of just how serious their abuses were.

Please understand that OOC, I really don't care. I honestly don't. Though I've gotten myself a nice position through wise political players over an extended period of time, Dwilight never was were I dump most of my game time on. OOC, I understand everything that happened there. But nothing that is said on these forums will change my IC feeling towards it.

Have you ever visited an honest-to-goodness medieval castle? They're often filled with medieval graffitti.

e.g. http://www.flickr.com/photos/hauxtongill/2748365297/

From my understanding, prisoners and captives did not get the same kind of cells and treatment. Prisoners being those arrested for crimes (commoners), and captives being other nobles captured in battle and detained for ransom. I would expect graffiti from the former, but not the latter.

Development / Re: Religion is missing something?
« on: June 18, 2011, 01:07:25 AM »
What about take away the option to "ignore" other religions.
If they only can except each other as Variant, misguided and evil, it could create more game. As you need to have need to have a reason why an religion is a variant or misguided or evil.
If needed you could make another option instead of ignore called "unkown"
as soon as a priest or elder meets an priest of an "unkown" religion the player has a week the time to change the view to variant or misguided and else it will be changed to evil.

another suggestion:
When a priest/elder is in a level 3 temple, he can allow to arrest evil priests in this region.(each member of this faith then can arrest evil priests(the region lord can be against it and tell his militia/knights to arrest nobles who arrest priests. Then you also can add that militia can disobey the orders if a priest(with enough influence) tells them)

Complicated and useless, if you ask me. Verdis Elementum, notably, has every other faith on ignore. If this option is taken away, we'll simply have them all put on misguided and continue ignoring them. What would change? Nothing, pretty much. If our gods don't demand that we convert every infidel to our way, why would we bother making a big fuss with the unbelievers? We know we are right but don't really care if others are wrong. Who knows, they might just have whacky ways of worshiping the same gods we do without anyone realizing it. If what they were doing was evil, then the gods would punish them.

Preaching is a game of luck.

A fickle one at that.

Reclaiming Fwuvoghor for Enweil was pretty sweet. Bringing Riombara down to one region was also pretty good times.

I believe he was saying that Aurvandil needs millitary aid, not Madina.

I was.

OOC inactivity, but I'm awaiting the return RP. Our claim is fair and real considering that our lands was stolen by a rebel group from libero in combination with old Grand Doge and old Duke of Madina that were plotting IC against our own realm. Which makes the game interesting but sucks since the on purpose mismanagement of Sage destroyed a lot of Madina city.

A forewarning would have been nice... And mind you, I sent an invitation to basically all of Aurvandil to reply to me, and Florence in particular, but got no response from anyone there. In Madina, I haven't had the time to actually reply to anyone, but I've gotten a few letters and invitations.

Beluaterra / Re: next invasion
« on: June 18, 2011, 12:59:23 AM »
I do believe Tom said that, so many years ago. And it's a general consensus amongst people that it was a temporary continent. At least for me, the intentions of an invasion have always been to rid the continent of players (or has been), so it could be closed down. It worked the other way around, though. Invasions actually attract people.

I've been here since 2006, and read the d-list since almost as long, and don't recall ever reading that. I'm pretty sure it would have left an impression.

I've lived through two invasions. The last one clearly said the invasion could destroy the continent, but I never had that slightest fear in the third invasion, where my impression was that everyone knew the continent would come out alive and it was just a question of how many realms got killed in the process.
