Still not very convinced, I will have to think again on everything that's been said (OOC: re-read the posts  ;D)

Helpline / Fortifications and regions
« on: August 29, 2012, 12:24:50 PM »
I had assumed that fortifications can only be constructed on townslands, cities and strongholds. I seem to be able to build them in a mountain region. I say "seem" because I haven't actually tried, but if I click "Build Fortifications" in the "Command" menu, I get this:

There are no fortifications here, but you can build a new fort. You will need to construct 5 "blocks" to complete construction.

Each block will cost 86 gold to construct. You can build up to two blocks per day (one per turn).

Is this intentional? The region is Bym, at Beluaterra.

Open accusations already? My, my, too much hasty too much nasty  8)

I don't like the trunk at all, but agree that perhaps we shouldn't get rid of it currently. Although perhaps if we do so, those interested in it will leave the ship in an attempt to pick it once again!

Ketchum, we the Sailors ain't smart guys. That's the reason why I became a sailor!

Oh, it doesn't seem to be detachable, I agree. It is very well placed in your arm, although I'm no medic to check that. And I'm jumpy because... my captain has been killed! Aren't you afraid of being the next? Because that can only mean one thing...

Well Fury, just saying that if strenght counts on it, Lefanis can possibly overrun us all. I mean, look at that hook! It could go all the way into a head with one thrust!

So Cren, are you saying you don't know how to sail? Then why are you here, if you're not a sailor? Does that mean... perhaps... that you are a...

Cook?  :o

That gives us little to no clues. We are sailors, if we can fight with a rope in a storm we can surely use our strenght for other ends. Although that reminds me... Lefanis, didn't you won most of the arm wrestling contests on board...?

As you all will remember, I said several times that such a secrecy covering the cargo would mean nothing but troubles. Now we know nothing about our destination and whatever we are carrying. Even worse, we have an assassin on board, perhaps even more. Someone saw anything suspicious?

Out of contol bloodthirsty society? I fail to see how executing a criminal, who has killed and raped any number of people, is being bloodthirsty. It is protecting society from a predator, someone who hears a woman crying and yelling for her release and, instead of filling deep hatred and outright condemnation for which he is doing, laughs and tells her: "You are my toy, and I will use you, my little object, for as much as I want. Once I'm done, I'll kill you, because your life, and all people's lifes in this planet, matters nothing for me when compared to my personal leisure".

If someone has ever thought even for a single second something similar to that, that someone deserves death. Period. I'm bloodthirsty? No, just protecting the rest of women and even men from such a murderer, someone with such an eroded empathy that can not feel the suffering of those around him. Of course, even worse is the case of those that feel the suffering, but actually enjoy it. They are abominations, plain and simple, and must be destroyed before they harm anyone else.

About hate speech, one thing is to allow disagreeing and open expression of ideas, which is fine, and another entirely different to see as benefitial the flaming and intentional verbal attack in order to incite unrest and, well, hatred. That is NOT right.

Roleplaying / When your home doesn't feel as your home anymore
« on: August 27, 2012, 07:02:48 PM »
So, just wanting to collect some (hopefully constructive) feedback over my roleplays. Last days I've been asking myself what to improve, and who would be better judge than you guys?  :P Anyways, I want to see what do you think about this one, which reflects the thoughts of my character, but perhaps can also offend some people, something I did not think about before sending it. There it goes!

Guldor finally entered Anacan's gates, putting an end to a several days journey towards the battlefront. At the same time his foot stepped inside the city, a whole wave of memories assaulted his mind. The times of the old Cathay, when it stood proud and defiant to the many threats at its frontiers, as if it would last forever. Guldor sighed, negating with his head. It had taken less than he had thought to destroy Cathay, betrayed by both foreigners and, above all, even Cathayans; only to see it restored later by a bunch of traitors who, obviously, had little to no idea about the meaning of the word honour and, above all, the spirit of the true Cathay.

He walked through the city, filled with a stormy mood. The places he so very well remembered seemed extremely familiar, but something seemed to have changed in them. Guldor made a saddened smile: "Probably it is me the one changed", he thought.

After having visited the places he knew the most, he just wandered around with no specific objective, and after some hours, at the start of sunset, he decided to return to his basement, where his soldiers and servants awaited for him.

 - Welcome, m'Lord! - said Lionel, his personal servant - We were waiting for your arrival.

 - Not now, Lionel. I am not in the mood to talk.

 - I... see, m'Lord. Then, I shall not disturb you. May I bring something to m'Lord before retreating?

 - Yes, bring me a fine wine. And after that, tell Geoffrey to send a letter to Strategic Commander Wilhelm Altenahr. I want to know where will be going to act next.

 - Understood, m'Lord. Something else?

 - No, Lionel. You may leave.

Once alone, Guldor awaited for the wine, and once he had a goblet served, he stood still. Some minutes later, he finally lost his temper, and throwing the glass to the floor, he started shouting:

 - This city will never belong to you, so-called Cathayans! Your betray lies as a burden on your honour, and this land you have made from lies and deceit will never replace the fallen realm of my heart! Just await, feeling safe and comforted in your viper's nest, because sooner or later justice will be brought upon all of you!

He breathed deeply, his not so young chest trying to recover the normal breathing rythm. Lionel appeared suddenly, inquiring for the reason of the commotion.

 - It is not your business, Lionel. Clean this all up, and do it quick.

Guldor exited the tent, looking for fresh air. His eyes looked first to Anacan, then to the point where he knew that Kindara started, many miles to the West.

 - I hate what you have become, Cathayans. - he whispered - But if I am able to return even a minimum damage to Kindara, the final destroyers of my Cathay, then I will fight with you. Just for this time. Just for this purpose.

His rage now tempered, he entered his tent once again, and awaited there for the orders from his Strategic Commander.

On the other hand,

If you're a rapist, a violent murderer, or a manipulative, abusive monster hellbent on ruining everything you touch, it is my belief that you should not be allowed to live. Yes, its "extreme", but !@#$ it - I'm old-fashioned on the subject of capital punishment. If you live to make others' lives a living hell then you're an utter waste of space, air, time, and resources, are obviously contributing nothing to the Human species, and should be relinquished of your right to waste the time, air, and resources of those who actually try to, I don't know, not behave like monsters.

That guy who raped his own daughter and had 3 children with her while she was locked in the basement for 3 decades? Execution. Serial killers? Execution. Rapists? Execution. Child molesters? Execution. Corrupt politicians who swindle the public out of billions, thereby causing more death and suffering than we can begin to calculate? Execution.

Because I think allowing utter monsters to waste further time and resources by 'rotting in jail' is !@#$ing stupid when that same money we blow giving prisoners a better life than many Americans/whatever could instead go to, hmm, actually helping the honest, hard-working citizens?

I know I have joined the topic late, but I have logged in just to state my complete and utmost agreement with these paragraphs.

Just in case somebody has joined this topic later: Make sure you read my posts on pages 3 and 4 of this topic, they will answer a lot of questions you might have about the game.

Yeah, I have to say that your posts have been, literally, a life saver. They have been the difference between me saying f*** this thing, I don't understand anything - and my current enjoyment of the game. So, thanks!

Next in line with two pregnant mothers :P

Heh, then you will possibly be one of us cat people. I think we had a pregnant mother? Don't know for sure, though.

Use *blah blah blah* to roleplay emotes. Also, you click 'unnamed' and rename yourself, just like you can click 'little girl', 'little boy', 'adult female', ETC. You have to assign the names to every character because by nature you don't know who they are and thus, they have no names. Find out names from RP-emotes and assign them as you figure them out. Also, get on the FTO IRC and they'll teach you how to play and what to do, the cat folks are very nice :-)

Yep, I have already done the IRC thing, and they told me something similar to what you posted. I have also gone back in this post and found some *very* useful FAQ's, so from now on it should be easier.

I'll tell you if I get bored, Gustav, but thanks to the info I got in the IRC now I see everything a hundred thousand times brighter, so it seems that I won't give up. At least by now...

So, it seems I'm a giant carnivorous cat (8 feet? I mean, seriously?) with translucent fur and skin... whoah! Well, that will be if someone feeds me or something like that, because I'm damn famelic crying all the time and I don't still know if the RP's of the others comforting a crying cat go for me, mainly because they say a name and I'm tagged as unnamed (¿?) Oh man, I'm really lost here...
