Helpline / Unstable Government Causes Unrest
« on: March 20, 2012, 09:36:01 AM »
In Fissoa, an election failed and we started to receive this message:

Unstable Government Causes Unrest   (2 hours, 59 minutes ago)
The recent failed election has the people confused and uncertain about the future.

To deal with the issue, I appointed someone to the position several days ago, however I still get this message. Is this intended behaviour? I wanted to post here before, but I decided to wait a bit longer. The first message appeared 10 days ago, and the appointment I made was about 7 days ago.

Helpline / Appointing a Lord
« on: March 15, 2012, 07:38:22 PM »
Being the Ruler of Fissoa, I am currently unable to have my character appoint a Lord to the region of Kamade.

I know this would normally fall to the Duke, but the Duke and the Lord of Kamade were the same person until both titles were lost because of imprisonment.

Extra: Kamade is not the 'capital' of the Duchy, so perhaps there's a mixup?

Feature Requests / Adjust Advy Travel
« on: February 02, 2012, 03:51:14 PM »
Basically, I think the way adventures travel right now, is in conflict with the idea everyone should be able to play BM at their own pace. Hear me out.

Advy travel is great. The time-pool, the instant travelling, ... But there's one thing that bothers me: having to wait for your timepool to fill up to a certain level before you are able to make your move. I can imagine, for people who only log-in once a day, how it's annoying to see many of your hours go to waste.

E.g.: Let's say you're in Keplerville and want to go to Kepler. The voyage takes 12 hours to complete. When you log in, you only have 10 hours in your time-pool. If you can only manageto log-in again 12 hours later, you will find your advy sitting in Keplerville with 16 hours (and 8 hours have gone to waste).

But what if you would allow non-instant travelling for adventurers as well? This would mean you invest your 10 hours in the trajectory, and for 2 hours your status changes to 'travelling'. If you log in 12 hours later, you will have completed the journey with 10 hours in your time-pool.

Basically, this system is already in place for long-distance travels, like when a route takes more than 16 hours to complete. All I propose is to lift that restriction, and always allow it.

Priority: rather low. In fact I might be the only person bothered by this? But then again, it seems this only needs a minor adjustment to work, with the benefit of making the game more light-weight, accessible and fun.

It's a zombie-killing game with pretty good graphics, and it's tons of fun. But the reason I downloaded is because it's free on Steam. Not for long though, some 10 hours left :)

Development / Noble Houses - I mean, actual houses.
« on: January 06, 2012, 11:07:21 AM »
Reading the other topic, called Noble Houses, I got an idea.

What if, when you're in a certain region, you could visit the local estates?

There would be a link under Actions, "Visit local estates" (like there's Visit the Temples", etc.). This would bring you to a drop-down menu of people based in the region. Visiting the home would have no consequences on the level of game mechanics. You would simply get a special messaging screen (similar to the message field you get when transferring funds?) (also adding the person to your contact list? -interesting for diplomats).

Messaging someone using this channel would basically let the person know you're asking them to roleplay with you. This could be the visit itself, or another activity. Basically, it would be the medieval equivalent of poking someone on facebook :) it would also flesh out first encounters, as the receiving persons can easily present themselves.

Feature Requests / "Destructible" Messages
« on: January 03, 2012, 11:12:31 PM »
Sometimes you're in a situation, for instance when blackmailing or when using politics of the more shady kind, that it's unsettling to know another can hold evidence for your words. I could for instance threaten someone 'privately', only for that person to copy my message and forward it to anyone who'd like to know.

Now in the real world, if I didn't want a message to be recorded, I'd send in a messenger, delivering an oral message instead.

Would it be possible to simulate something similar in Battlemaster? I believe it would deepen interaction and intrigue, for evident reasons. I haven't thought too far about this though, so perhaps I'm missing some less beneficial side-effects.

Ways to simulate this would be a message that can only be read once (and is not delivered in html, so it can't be copied - if that is even possible?) or to add an extra option to the list of Request-Letter-Roleplay-Orders. This 'stamp' would effectively mean that even though copying the message is technically possible, it would be frowned upon or even treated as cheating. It would also allow roleplays where the recipient /does/ somehow record the message (a roleplayed witness?), but with the explicit permission of the sender.

Thoughts? :)

PS: I know there's a feature freeze. I don't mind if this goes into the freezer (granted that it would ever actually get there :P )

We've fallen short one member, and we'd like to fill the gap. We've had good fun so far, and anyone is welcome to join. We'll happily explain everything you need to know, so noobs are allowed for once :D

(Put this in a different thread to get a different audience than the D2N thread :) )

Feature Requests / Expansion of the Tournament Model
« on: October 11, 2011, 03:49:09 PM »
Many players (and characters alike) are fond of tournaments, I believe. They can be real fun events, and an excellent way to stimulate interaction or meet new people.

However, they are largely restricted to the Warrior caste. Traders or Priests seem to have little to do (except for getting their butts kicked in the first round - can they even participate? I'm not sure), and that is something that could benefit from change.

Basically, I would like to see the idea of international gatherings (with high RP value) expanded into the Trader and Priest classes. Now, I don't have any character in either class, so it's hard for me to judge, but I think both classes could really benefit from this.

For Traders, as in real-life Medieval times, regular, or irregular markets could be organised, in certain key regions. Think the annual Champagne markets. Here, large or small scale business deals could be made, Traders from different realms can share their experience or compete over assets, and simply roleplay. A Duke hosting such event could of course exclude certain factions to benefit his own, offer cheap trade offers and what not. These markets would become major events for Traders/trading nations, with economical and political influence. Perhaps even auctions could be held, where realms can get the best price for their goods? This system would also fit in great with the rumoured New Economy System, where certain regions produce certain resources.

For Priests, "Conclaves" could be held. I'm unsure on how to do this, but I think we can come up with something that is nicely analogue to Tournaments and said "Annual Markets". Then again, it is fairly easy to bring a few members of your religion together, and Priests usually have a better RP'ing base (and as such less need for game mechanics as a back-up(?))

------------------------

Now, you could of course say that any of what I have proposed will not add value, because 'you could simply roleplay those events'. I could agree for the Conclave thing, but I do think that a mechanical backgound (even if it's just some kind of invitation/announcement, nothing more) would be beneficial for the Markets. Look at tournaments: we could 'easily' send letters to all the people on our contact list, devise a duelling roster and hand out a cash prize. Nonetheless, Tournaments are a great addition. I believe Annuel Markets could bring the same joy to our hearts, be it in another form. :)

Perhaps atypical for many people on these forums, but I started playing TF2 a few days ago. I downloaded it because it's free now :) Anyway, it's a cool game, and it would be nice if some people would join me playing. Nothing too serious, though.

My steam account name is Fry_Shizzle. As I only play TF2 on steam, my account is limited, so I cannot make friend requests. But people playing other steam games can invite me.

Helpline / Army Banner

Somehow, the army banner for the Privateers in the Grand Duchy of Fissoa on Dwi is not showing up. I asked the army sponsor, and he said the settings appear to be okay - however the banner won't show.

Helpline / OOC vs IC
« on: June 08, 2011, 10:17:32 PM »
Sorry for asking another question in here, but we're in dubio.

This is what happened:
A character sent a letter, to which I had my character react, but in a Roleplay. (the issue doesn't really matter) However, next thing I see, is that the first character reacted on my roleplay, where he had not been involved at all in it.

I brought it OOC to ask how he could have known that (all in good understanding, let me add that), and then the other player said:

Actually, per Tom RPs are supposed to be general knowledge for anyone who reads them. There was a big discussion about this on the d-list. Toms says if you want something to be private, send it only to that person.

and in another message:

Nope. Truth is, even if you RP being in a room with no windows or doors, anybody could use that knowledge against you. Which is why it's strongly recommended not to RP planning a rebellion. Of course, if you RP being in a box with somebody, and another person uses that information IC, then it's certainly douch-bagey. But they can't get in trouble for it.

The Wiki, on the other hand, says (on http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Roleplaying ):

"unless your character is there, AND you are roleplaying that you are there and listening, OR you are told via another character who is, your character does NOT know about what they are saying. This is because what you the player knows (OOC) is different from what your character knows (IC)."

So what is it now? Are RP's only to be regarded as OOC knowledge for those not taking part of it, and IC (+OOC) for the participating characters?

Helpline / Investment
« on: May 31, 2011, 09:15:11 PM »
Does anyone have any figures on the payoff? Like what is the cost-benefit ratio?

Thing is that I would like to invest in a Townsland region. However, my family wealth is at 1750. So I wonder if depositing 250 gold first, and doing an investment would gain me more money than just holding on to the 250 + next tax day...

PS: is investment money deducted from your family wealth or fromthe character's personal money?

Helpline / Question about ranks
« on: May 29, 2011, 06:23:29 PM »
I understand how an Earl holds control over Townsland, and a Duke over a city. But what's the difference with Viscount, Count and Baron?

Couldn't find the answer on the wiki.
