Feature Requests / Heirs
« on: May 24, 2011, 06:07:57 PM »
I know this is partially covered by claims, but it would be interesting if Lords were able to assign a heir for their region, so that when they die that person automatically becomes Lord. :) it would strengthen the tie between Lords and their knights, as well as between knights and their region.

This feature could be expanded into other features as well, e.g. Guilds (though a 'second in command' covers that, I suppose) or army Marshals and Sponsors.

Development / FR: Time
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:48:51 PM »
I must say the current time system is very confusing, especially when it comes to what year it is. But I understand that the difference in time scale will always make things difficult, though.

However, couldn't it somewhere say what date it is? Like where it says 'Spring', change it to 'Spring, in the 5th year of Dwilight'?

(If that's to plain, you could even have realms decide when their calendar starts, as in 'Spring, in the 12th year after the Fall of the Kepler Stronghold'. But that's more than I'm asking for)

Background / Question
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:17:17 AM »
Here's the thing:

  • Two advy's duel each other (with approval of the Judge). The winning Advy has an IC brother, who is also the Lord of the region the duel took place in.

  • The Lord throws the losing Advy in jail for causing trouble (but not his advy 'brother'), and then the Judge decides to steal the 125 gold the losing Advy had on him (for "causing trouble to the Lord").

    • As far as I know, there has been no in-game contact between said Lord and the punished advy.

Now, imagine your noble character is the losing adventurers 'Liege' in a Guild, and part of the money the adventurer owned was given to him by you. What would you do?

Feature Requests / Improving Roleplaying: Realm-wide RP
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:08:53 AM »
I think it is sad how some people (I think) miss out on a lot of fun, because roleplays can only be read by the people working on the project. For that reason, I would like to see a message option implemented to send a message to everybody in the realm a character is located in. This would mean both noble and common characters, of course.

Advantage
Improving roleplay and fun, as well as awareness of what is happening for nobles away from the centre of power

Disadvantages
Spam or abuse.

Feature Requests / Improving Roleplaying: Like-buttons
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:01:11 AM »
Recently someone else came up with this idea, and I thought I could share it.

Basically roleplays would get an extra option below the message, being to "like" it (like on Facebook, yes). This would encourage people to roleplay, because they actually get some credit for their work. Also, it would allow people who enjoy reading roleplays (but not necessarily enjoy writing them) to express their intrest.

Advantage
This would encourage roleplaying, bringing BM to life

Disadvantage
Is in analogy to Facebook, might disrupt IC'ness. (though an option to show/hide the button and stats could be made available)

Feature Requests / Improving Roleplaying: message groups
« on: May 02, 2011, 11:56:35 PM »
Problem
I hate it how you can be having a great roleplay in a region, and then you need to break it off because of IC issues, like monster attacks or whatever. Sometimes you don't want to roleplay in real-time, but take your time and spend a while week describing one event. I am sure many weddings or ceremonies have been abruptly terminated because some characters needed to leave the region...

Solution
As a solution, I would like to see temporary message groups to be created. You could send an invitation to roleplay to all characters in a region, perhaps with a small introduction to the subject of the roleplay. Invited characters could then choose to accept or decline the offer, instantly making clear for the starter of the roleplay if there is any intrest in his initiative.

Far too many times I have tried to commence a roleplay, with hardly anybody replying to it. You can say I should write more interesting RP's then, but it's not fun to have wasted an hour working on your text and seeing it was all for nothing...

Advantages
More flexible roleplaying = more fun

Disadvantages
Might make roleplays further restricted (OOC friends for instance)
Might be abused to send regular messages, though I hardly see a problem there

Dwilight / the Fissoa Verminators Guild
« on: April 26, 2011, 10:55:24 PM »
We are actively looking for members! Don't let 'Fissoa' in the name scare you, we hold no nationalist ideals. Main goal is to coordinate monster and undead hunting by adventurers, giving them a nice income each month in return. Being a noble member of course gets you several advantages. Contact Skyndarbau Melphrydd, Earl of Drowenton, Lord Treasurer of Fissoa for more info, or search the Wiki.

In the past, I heard foreigners who were interested in joining, but were unable because of the great distance. Does anyone have any hints on recruiting foreign members? My character there is a Banker, so has some kind of a network, but using that seems inappropriate.

I figured it would be cool if we had a place to show off the units under our command. It's not just about the amount of soldiers in your unit though, also about the number of CS per man. I'm hoping to gain some insight on the relevance of weapons/armour/training/cohesion/unit size/... :)

I guess I'll start off, with a modest unit:

Newlings
Captain Valdric (+2)
Type:    Infantry
Strength:    19 men
Training:    80 %
Weapons/Armour:    50% / 65%
Damage:   9 %
Morale:   100 %
Cohesion:   100 %
Combat Strength:   382

CS per man = 20.11

In general, would you rather prefer fewer strong men, or a big group of weaker? (for an equal total CS)

In the past I have always edited Wikipages without problems, though today something went wrong.

I tried editing the realm page of the Grand Duchy of Fissoa. As it was only a minor change, I did not bother to check preview. Something must have gone wrong, though, as the page is now blank, with only this text:

<parsererror>XML-parsefout: onjuist gevormd Locatie: http://wiki.battlemaster.org/index.php?title=Grand_Duchy_of_Fissoa&action=edit Regelnummer 2, kolom 3:<sourcetext>---- --^</sourcetext></parsererror>

The text you see is in dutch, saying something like "wrongly formed location".

Feature Requests / Battlemaster Rankings
« on: March 12, 2011, 07:48:00 PM »
If you create a new noble, it often is difficult to find a realm that might offer what you are looking for. Unless you get a twin character, or a char on the same continent as you've been on before, there's no way to determin what realm you might like. This counts double for new players, of course.

For that a ranking system might help. As we have in WI, although completely different.

The rankings could include:

military affairs: total CS, regions gained in the last months/weeks, battles won/lost, monster/undead dispatched, top soldier types (training, armor, ...?)...
culture: average daily amount of letters, roleplays (perhaps character count?), religions, guilds, ...

Not only would this be handy to inform yourself on a realm before joining, it would also encourage competition, not only in wars but also in roleplays etc.

Because now it only shows the 'amount of knights needed', in a way.
