the role of a captain would essentially be that of a 2nd character to go with the 1st character as a noble. of same player.

you don't see npc captains not turning up for a battle or end up in a (non) battle on his own.....
"hey.. i blew my hours training whilst waiting for the orders whilst my captain didn't.. and he's turned up against a billion men on his own"
or...
"some dipstick blocked the road and my captain got there on his own..."

now.. if you were to ban players with captain/noble serving each other.... not unlike advy/nobles can't trade each other stuff... how many would take it up? there might be the oddball or two who paired their capt/noble off, much like 2 players crossing trading their items... won't be common.

expansion of npc captain has more legs than this really...

here's an odd one... i sent a caravan (20/100) out to a place that autobuys @20...

some of the food was sold.. but most not......  but the next day the place is starving (it might have been starving anyway.. didn't look)

what are the chances that it had both manual and auto @ 20/100...  and the stuff my caravan sold took all the manual... but decided not to take up the auto too?

can't think of any other reason why the auto 20/100 wasn't used..... unless it has a really low threshold...

Well, you could give troop leaders the option to 'turn' friendly fire on or off. It would be interesting to see how many people would use it.

would depend on whether infantry actively bypass engaged units. Instead of having a few odd ducks charging into and holding up 20 units. you would think those crowded out of melee will just flank them and hit the lot behind that.

(no idea how combat is done nowadays... haven't seen a big human human battle for a while...)

just trying to understand how recruiting new troops can change captain.

does "recruiting new troops" mean
1) adding men to unit
or
2) changing unit type, say, inf -> arc, etc

Even recruiting new troops may change your captain

eh? is there some hidden stat aside from the +whatever that appears next to the captain's name?

well i ain't testing more. only thing i'm really interested in is whether traders will see both manual and auto offers.
the 2 systems should be streamlined to act consistently

test results:

manual buy offer = 1/100
auto buy offer = 20/100

if caravan sell set at:
1/100 food sold at 1/100
20/100 food sold at 20/100
19/100 food sold at 20/100

.......eh?

if it gets that bad, then whoever you give it to doesn't matter. the hero can even be the sacrifice for the peasants to boot out! XD

depends XD

would be interesting if retiree can do something for the family in the background (before eventual death.. somewhat based on age)

as a way to encourage old chars to move on. obviously a 20 yr old retiree with zip h/p won't do much

does it comes back in terms of cash in hand? (forgot now.. haven't done it in ages) or goes back as part of the taxes?

in general, if there's only manual offers, there's no need to remove the cheap ones. because they'll only be used if all the other ones expire...

why bother removing them?

but the point is, when you have manual and auto offers, it would appear it'll use up the manual ones first, regardless of price.

basically nothing changes, aside from training/cohesion which gets lowered.... and number of men, which goes up.

ok... put it this way.

you have 2 thresholds... 1/100 and 20/100

what happens if someone sends out 20/100? or 19/100?

if there's only 1 threshold, then it'll be sold at 20/100 even if the caravan is set to sell at 1/100 (or above).. at least that is the case for manual offers.
