If  then why it affect shrines? And if it is made to affect shrines as well, then why there is no option to deposit gold in shrine treasury analogously to option to deposite gold in temple treasury.

This way shrines are practically long termly useless while they cost tones of gold to be constructed...
Useless is an exaggeration but less useful is true.

Because peasants are always skeptical when you can't cover your expenses out of local funds.

This is an incentive to keep temples with well-supplied treasuries :)
Hidden incentive programs generally don't work. This is certainly something worth making easyish to find as an elder or priest.

Would make sense, but morseo with the logic of prevention of protection from loot.
Soon it won't be safe from looting.

Questions & Answers / Re: Troop Recruitment Question

"Some guy who has crappy archers, instead of good solid infantry, isn't going to be of any help!"

That's an actual attitude in this game, and it's part of why the unit type IR exist. For many people, the unit type they recruit is part of their character's identity.

You have to remember that even as a Marshal, it's not your job to micromanage everyone into doing exactly the most militarily efficient thing at all times.
Not quite equal but fair enough.

1) If you notice someone that is lagging, try sending them a message asking if there's a problem, and if they need any help. Offer to help them resolve any problems. Then you can find out why that person is lagging, or only has 5 men, and maybe give them some advice. Maybe you can contact the lord of the RC they are using, and see if you can get a draft.

2) If someone is too slow in their refit, then yeah, you can yell at them. If they are only leading 5 men, then yeah, you can yell at them. You can order them to recruit 20 men and be back in the road immediately. (Be careful with the "within a day" thing, though, as you probably already are aware.)

3) Hand out kudos, by name, to the nobles that make it where they need to be with the required number of troops. Seeing your name in lights is a great motivator.

4) Make sure to explain to your army why you need them to be so fast on the refit. If they know that lagging too far behind is going to cause serious problems, maybe they will recruit from the non-elite RCs so they can to make sure they make it on time. Or maybe they will make sure they are there on time, but with a few less men.

5) Beyond that, relax a bit about whether or not one or two people can't make it back to the rally point on time. Loosen up a bit on the schedule, and urge on the laggers to catch up. There's rarely a battle plan that *requires* such precise timing that lagging behind in the capital for a day means you miss the whole thing.

As for archers.... Good solid infantry is always better than crappy archers. ;)  The key is to make sure that your realm doesn't have any crappy archer centers to begin with. Only let them recruit the good ones, and you don't have to worry about it.

I am not saying I couldn't take a more active effort on positive things, but I am not yelling at people every turn because they didn't move. In fact I think I have dealt with unreasonable attitudes from others after my laxness, because I have put up with people clearly not following orders for several days and ask them why, then they act like I am crazy/a jerk because I think they should actually follow orders.

To the rulers of Cathay and Kindara:

Quit putting the entire island's fun, and especially your realm's fun, as Velax's responsibility. Its not. I agree he should try to give reasonable terms, but you both don't seem to try much for that supposed fun Velax is required to guarantee.

You have options, but you act like the only one is that Velax accept the terms you demand.

For starters, negotiate. He sent you some terms you didn't like, that should be expected. Send him back some new terms. Have some back and forth with him on terms instead of just well I don't like your terms so no peace.

Next, you are the ruler of your realm, you should have experience persuading your realm of things. So after you have got what you consider more reasonable terms, start convincing your realm the terms are in fact reasonable.

Finally, you are the damn ruler, not the nobility. Not only are you the ruler, you are the ruler in a monarchy, so quit acting like you can't do anything because there was a vote and the realm disagreed. How about just don't have a vote? The point I am getting to is, quit blaming the lack of peace on your nobles, you are the one with the button for peace, its your decision not theirs.

As an add-on, you could always accept terms and not follow through with them, then politic your way out of another war/get them to just deal with it.

That's not really how it works either. Don't gather a lynch mob, just report directly to the Titans.
Exactly, and if the rest of the realm agreed, they would be sending their own reports without him telling them to.

Questions & Answers / Re: Troop Recruitment Question
« on: July 11, 2014, 09:56:24 PM »
The issue I am trying to somehow fix is getting people to fight that are actually are worth fighting. Some guy who has 5 soldiers isn't going to be of any help, someone else who sits there for a week recruiting is of no help either.

I feel trapped as a Marshal trying to have troop leaders actually help, because I can't yell at him for disobeying orders to recruit at least 20 men and move out within the day, since then I am making him drop his unit and recruit a different type.

It does, but not as bad as letting your deal ride through the term posted.  IIRC, it back dates to the day of posting with normal rate of rot, and then applies the accumulative rot at once.  In other words, if unsold, you'll see the same amount of rot as if not on the market; though, I'm notnsurebif you save anything to roundings this way (not sure if it uses decimals at all for values).
IIRC to try and prevent people from putting food on the market just to prevent rot, the rot rate is much higher when the offer expires than if it just sat in your granaries.

I actually like the island-wide anonymous system.

However.... It definitely needs strict policing, and hooks to ferret out any abusers.

Messages to that channel should probably also have a slug line that points to the Helpline or Newbie Corner on the forum.
That is what I am worried about. Get a ton of people in this and someone asks a military question, I feel like you are going to get a lot of arguing going on.

Questions & Answers / Troop Recruitment Question
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:43:00 PM »
In cases where recruiting say, special forces, means the character can not recruit more than say 5 of those soldiers because others are already using the recruitment center, would it be against the IR to say something like this:

Quote
Sir X,

There is no particular issue with recruiting special forces in general, but due to the many others already using our special forces center(s) you will not be able to recruit a suitable unit thus you should not recruit special forces currently.

With Regards,
If the realm has only 1 cavalry center but say 4 people already recruiting cavalry from it, it could fit in the same situation if there is an issue because I used special forces as my example.

Holding off on pressing the "nuke" button is not commendable or even worth noting in any way. If that is your only redeeming quality, you were an awful duke. It's like being proud that you don't kick your dog.
I share the same thoughts.

Xander was banned because he was constantly getting into conflict with the government and was caught plotting against the government, particularly trying to have the judge replaced.

Btw, its even worse than that because its like saying well I didn't kick my dog until after he growled at me since Xander still tried to damage Ikalak.

But yeah he didn't get much sympathy from me when he said the ruler and judge were clanners OOC, and then after people told him to stop, he made nearly identical claims of clanning but instead in character.
That's the one rule you should never break.
Stuff like that really bugs me. Don't get me wrong, its fair to be a little skeptical because of his family reputation, but some people have stated they will literally never give a Himoura or certain other families power.

His claims that he made a mistake trusting a Himoura is that the banker was appointed without giving an application which was the stated requirement, whereas Himoura and another both gave decent applications and were ignored. Because of that, Himoura protested the banker but that was supported by even the new ruler because the banker was caught stealing gold.

Dustole apparently and a few others were really annoying because they demanded a screen print to prove that the banker stole the gold or they wouldn't accept the messages the Queen gave as proof. Happily the queen did not do such because that is terrible game play to not let your characters make decisions but instead require yourself to know 100% OOC before willing to have your character accept something.

We had a fairly bold marshal on the eastern front. Then he got banned and we kinda halted.
The General was also quite active at first, but soon made a few tactical blunders and apparently lost interest.
I wish characters in power were forced to step down sooner if a player doesn't log in for days.Oh. I guess we should all thank you after all.
I don't want characters to be forced out sooner although I could perhaps understand only for WI. People should just step down if they don't have the time to play anymore but if someone is having issues in RL for a few days, as long as they aren't failing to do their duties they shouldn't be forced out of their position.

You might say, "Well they are inactive, of course they aren't doing their job" but thats not necessarily true. Sometimes there isn't things going on, and better generals should be working on strategy such that their absence for a few days is fine because their marshals are working on plans already laid out. (I mention generals specifically since they are the ones generally considered to be the ones needing to do things all the time, the most.)

You had a General rage quit as well?

Generals don't seem to fare well on the War Islands.  :-X
He is talking about Taselak. We have it worse. We have a general who I have heard isn't having fun any more so isn't playing that character, but is keeping the character alive and unpaused, the taking a very valuable position. What really irks me is he decided to do this right after he ran for re-election.

I will comment more on the Ikalak situation but to throw one tidbit out:

As Anaris stated, people expect to run the realm as is best for the military. That means not picking marshals because he is the duke's best friend (IC) people can shut the hell up with their OOC accusations or assumptions of accusations. The general of the realm decided who was best to be the marshal and from there the marshal's decided who was best to be the Vice-Marshals. In other words, those qualified to make a proper decision on the matter were the ones who made the decisions on who got Marshal and Vice-Marshal in Ikalak.

P.S. The ruler of Sandalak never died so please don't make accusations of him demanding to be made ruler right after his character dies. All I have heard from the player related to that is complaints his ruler hasn't been killed yet so someone else can have power. (He enjoys it and is quite good at being a ruler, he just is looking for proper atmosphere like high turnover)

BM General Discussion / Re: Number of Players Lost Since Glacier?
« on: July 05, 2014, 07:37:07 AM »
Well I wouldn't say the Atanamir affair impacted only the numbers of the past month.
I am referencing people quitting the game in protest of the Titan decision. From April to May there was in fact a slight increase and I doubt he had any major effect from March to April, that was likely mostly due to protests over the Freeze.

And the whole Atanamir affair.
I am sure thats the biggest part of the recent drop but they were talking about from January to March.

Helpline / Re: SF and Marshal settings
« on: July 02, 2014, 08:06:41 PM »
It seems all SF are being treated like infantry.
I brought this up as a bug a while ago, but it was misunderstood and dropped before I could respond.
Ranged SF are being treated as infantry by marshals.  So my 5 range SF are being placed with infantry.  This make them much less effective.
Can this be changed?
You will need more basis than the last battle you were in because the settings were Fortification Defense, which has both infantry and archers at the frontline.

Loghain was just starting to get fun to play too :(. Any suggestions on what I should do next? I doubt the NA would be up for letting Anora go on compassionate release?
It wouldn't hurt to try and get the judge to let you go so you may grieve over Loghain's death.
