Far East Island / Re: History of the Far East Island
« on: June 03, 2014, 06:20:24 AM »
Whoops, didn't realize I was replying to such an old conversation. I think electing your ruler monthly sounds like a recipe for a schizophrenic realm.
I don't see monthly as a great idea but quarterly seems fine especially in republics and democracies where rulers hold less power on policy.

This, of course, is the genius of a three realm island - there can't be any stable alliances.

"Sandalak has always been allied with Ikalak and at war with Taselak", etc.
It has more to do with the fact they are all at war because once you kill a realm, you already have your enemy lined up. I have always enjoyed games like that because of their enjoyable diplomacy because its tricky, although much simpler on this island with only 3 realms whereas I have played games where there are 8 different sides.

Although this is jumping off a negative comment, I'm genuinely interested in what I see as the positive side to it: Will the WI mortality be used as a litmus test for expanding mortality to other continents?
It is very unlikely for mortality to be expanded to the other islands. The issue that people had with it in the 4th Invasion was that it was imposed on them thus with a no island no one can claim that but the problem would come back if it was imposed on other islands.

That's not to say its impossible as there have been ways for it not to be imposing yet still expanded to the other islands (seems contradictory, but isn't). I think I will throw a more informative post in June's Newsletter, so look for it there if you are interested.

If you don't like begging for more money, you could do a couple things:

* You could find a lord willing to give you a bigger tax income.
* You could just recruit whatever troops you can afford, without begging for more money.

Constantly asking for more money is NOT a requirement for playing the game. There is nothing in the game that requires you to constantly be asking for more money. If you choose to do so, then that's your choice.
I agree with you on all that, but the title of the thread is Improved Army Chest, so I am going to ignore talking about that since I agree and give other suggestions.

What I would like to see are options. To elaborate on it, I mean options for what the sponsor pays. A poor sponsor may only provide gold for training, while richer sponsors will pay for equipment damage as well and the richest will even pay sea travel, instead of all of it automatically coming from the army chest.

Even your own sent messages? I thought *that* was allowed, but not other people's IC messages?
The current policy is precisely that which Indirik stated. In the past when no rules formally existed, it was a general consensus that you should not post others letters but it was ok to post your own, the current policy though does not include that exception.

What I would like to see is options, because the I dont care to add this such that all armies must allow this, but I think something along these lines could be good.

As Afi was the last character to join before the referendum (I think), and he cast his vote for Indirik... that would make me the kingmaker. I'll take that appointment now.  8)
The failed Kingmaker, as it seems Kurlock somehow got power.

South Island / Re: Plan going forward?

So, Anaris, what's your plan for going forward from here? When can we expect a turn to run? I assume the first turn or two will be run manually to make sure everything works properly before regular automated turns begin.

Referendums Extended   (1 day, 12 hours ago)

Due to the Memorial Day holiday in the US, the referendums are being extended into tomorrow. When the referendums complete, turns will begin running, but everyone will be restricted to their own realms for a period of setup.

Everyone is strongly encouraged to cast their votes for their favoured candidates.
As said, they have started. What happened with the elections on the other hand, I have no clue.

And then Barca decides to do something dumb...
Hard to blame them for not wanting enemy priests in their lands. Tact on the other hand is something Barca as a whole has not been overly known for.

Development / Re: War Island Realm Flavours
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:13:02 AM »
Oddly enough, the "war islands" have always been a hotbed of rp. A lot of it had tended to be silly, but it was still there. A few prominent religions got their start on the war islands.

But no, flavors will not be enforced by the dev team. Ther posted ones were suggestions. The actual realm styles will be set, and enforced if desired, by characters in the game.
I have logged on to Ikalak with 30+ messages and nearly all were roleplay, so it seems to be true of the War Islands being a hotbed of roleplay, although I haven't encountered any I would consider silly.

Will kingdom flavours be actually enforced?
There are no official flavors to be enforced. The original flavors were merely suggestions, not demands.

My extreme apologies, finishing up school has kept me quite busy this month thus I will be combining the May and June issues.

Exactly right. If it weren't for the shear volume of messages being sent back and forth, I would be happy to keep it entirely IC, but as it stands now...
If you are just trying to have a place for info, use the wiki. Its a perfect use for it, keeping track of campaigns and such.

I do like the idea of no federations.

Thus far, from what I have seen, there is only a confirmed group going to Ikalak.

A few individuals have mentioned that they are joining Taselak and Sandalak, but I do not know of any groups that have in any way laid claim to those realms.
I have heard about a small group going to Sandalak, but I haven't heard about any going to Taselak. I do not see why people dislike these groups so much though.
