Helpline / Re: Marshal formation

I firmly agree with all points in the former two postings, as have adhered to those very dictums myself ever since being first promoted to a command rank.

(hehe that was some while ago now and no mistake, and likewise don't think I've ever been out of one, be it either a marshal or vice-marshal, for more then a couple of week sincefirst joined soliferum)

I also belive it matters not just how many or how few units you command, as while I command my realms largest army I do it no different then if had only a couple units under me.

One of the other qualities required of a good marshal, and indeed perhaps the most important, is not only being able instill an inherent dicipline in his/her army, meaning more often then not nearly every member follows orders to a tee concerning settings etc, but also the ability build up a true sense of brother and sisterhood amoung it's ranks.

For both to hit in the same turn, assuming the defenders move forward in Round 1, I think attacking infantry would need to be set up on the front row and attacking cavalry on the middle row, but there doesn't seem to be a marshal setting for that. Am I missing something?

Sometimes the best options not to use any marshal settings whatsoever it certain situations, but instead rely on experience and use custom battle lines etc, as even while have all the marshal commands myself I still find that works best in many situations.

I'm not sure if this will help deal with the banner issue, but it might nevertheless help deal with the heraldic one.

I suspect a lot others are like myself in not only using the web to obtain specific information useful for playing BM, ie medieval weaponry, warfare, history etc, but also attempt get a feel for medieval times in general, such as everyday things like food, clothes, games and lifestyles, and likewise enable you either add more "colour" to your char or a RP'd NPC's personality etc.

So to that end I've decided post a few of those sites I use myself, so that others can either try them themselves or/and add their own to the list.

I've only added posted nominally basic ones, as while have quite a few bookmarked a lot of them are "user specific" in a way,  ie perhaps a page (or even a paragraph) I've found while working towards a specific end, so not much use to anyone else.

All the sites are virus and clickjacking free etc, as likewise are their subsections.

BM General Discussion / Re: Exotic realm cultures

Actually, I was wondering, when were the Vikings around? I mean, Scandinavia is still Europe.

It varies which specific race your considering, but the last real hurrah for them was around the end of the 13th century, around the time of the Baltic crusades.

I take a keen interest in them myself, as not only are both my chars of Norse origin,  but my hometown was actually first settled by them :)

Even though Batesaors part of Zonasa now it still remains loosely Piratical in make up, and likewise we intend try make it more so soon, in the hope turn it into a hot bed of scurrilous, villainous and merrily wicked sorts for chars from "any realm" to RP in ;)

It would be easy and likewise historically correct to have an african or asian themed realm, being as was not just a strong moorish presense in spain, but likewise all frankish and goth culture emanated from at least the near east.

Jeez it must be a good 20 yrs since I last played AD+D or MERP!, as what with losing track of my old circle of friends when I joined the forces, and likewise this long distance hauling lark preventing me building up a new one, (saves a small fortune on heating my flat etc though, as often away 8 days in 10 lol) I've never had the opportunity again, so can't wait until this takes off.

So wh would you want the enemy to know what troops are in what army? I like the idea, but I'd still prefer keeping that information away from the enemy's hands ...

In medieval times the enemy would, like yourselves have heralds among their retinue, whose sole job it was to mark and note such things.
