There is definitely not. But you are a hair away from a correct guess.
Nay, but you grazed 'yay' with that shot.

Successfully claiming a bounty above a gold threshold? 1000, 1500?

I'd like to open a discussion about the effect of discord on the BM community - gaming events that occur because of discord actions, the role of hyperactive players in pressuring development of the game, and the alienation of those who do not wish to participate in the very heavy activity that discord demands.

It seems like this phenomenon has increased since I got back to BM, although I must say it also seemed to be there in the IRC days. The more things change...

On a couple of occasions, I’ve seen directly this cry-bully behavior, with players coming onto discord to complain about their “fun” being curtailed when their character’s IC actions/scheming was caught out and they started facing IC consequences. In this particular instance, what made the matter worse in my eyes was certain good-hearted players OOC went out of their way to cater to the player’s wants after this complaining, thinking they could contribute to build a better game atmosphere, only to see their characters get almost immediately backstabbed for it. Those particular players ended up leaving/pausing out of the game, and I don’t doubt these sorts of OOC interactions soured the BM experience for them.

As someone who has been playing off and on since ‘07, there was a time when realms born and died easily- secessions were common, betrayals and region flip flops happened all the time, and this kept the game from being static. One of my favorite experiences in BM was the war between Arcachon and Arcaea/Ohnar West, where Arcachon, my one duchy realm was trying to fend off two realms with 9 cities. Sure it was tough, and we lost eventually (thanks to a spy embedded in our realm for IRL years). But no one complained, loss is just part of a board game. Nowadays, anytime a realm is destroyed, or a city taken, actions which bring dynamism and change to the game, I see a growing tendency to take to discord to badmouth the realm concerned and exact an OOC toll. When Perleone pulled out of the North-South war to take on MN and Alara in ‘18, on discord it was “Perl clan”. Now with the war with Caligus, it’s the “Perl dogpile”, despite Perleone beginning the diplomatic negotiations with SD to convince them to get that war started. Is it any wonder that the game is stagnating, when any actions that bring creative destruction to the game get continually panned on discord for upsetting the status quo?

hmmm, Maybe I had not received ruler day 1 fame for the previous rulership because the realm was too small... Investigation continues  :)

Questions & Answers / Re: Class IR- applicable to advies?
« on: August 22, 2019, 03:17:35 PM »
If I understand correctly, the adventurer in question wants protection from a manhunt, and you're willing to give it on the condition that they change class.

This seems related to (though not clearly analogous to) offering compensation for those who will change unit types. It also sounds like part of the protection in this case would be the class change itself, as once they were no longer an adventurer, they could not be arrested and executed out of hand.

Can you please expand some about the situation? Is there any other particular reason you/your character wants the adventurer to become a noble?

I have not said anything to the advy in question yet, to steer clear of the IR as it stands. Waiting to hear feedback here before engaging with him. If made the offer, he might just decide to leave anyway and take his chances in the wild.

From what I understand of the situation, the (rather pretigious) advy is wanted in one realm (Arnor) and possibly another (Astrum) for taking (thousands) of gold he'd deposited in Sanguis Astroism temples and offering to use it against their enemies after getting demoted in rank, and Arnor's ruler has messaged rulers asking for him to be punished. My character was asked his advice by his ruler, since he'd had dealings with this advy in the past. My character asked for leniency in the matter, arguing that it was possible he was of noble blood, but running around as a ranger for inexplicable reasons. The ruler responded, saying that he if he was of noble blood, he should prove it.

The punishment will likely go through unless my character can convince the ruler not to do so. My character has had prior engagement with this advy - my understanding of the recommendation system is that if your character gives a recommendation, you believe the advy has noble blood? So my character has two main reasons- protecting an advy he'd recommended to be recognised as nobility and to support someone who is being hunted by a realm that is attacking him and his allies, and who might be able to provide material support.

Questions & Answers / Class IR- applicable to advies?
« on: August 22, 2019, 11:18:17 AM »
An advy on Dwilight is facing a manhunt, and my character, who has recommended this particular advy, wants to offer protection from the manhunt, should the advy prove it's nobility.

Before I propose that to the character, I want to check whether this goes against the choosing your class IR? Given the RP behind the advy class, and this being SMA/Dwilight, I imagined that it was fine. Vita suggested that it should probably be discussed here.

o.o how did it die
I remember myself being entrenched in a long long war with Xavax, Selenia held on for so long...
While they were being pushed back for a while, GX's fate was pretty much sealed when Crownguard, the lord of Isadril flipped control of the city to Vix in July '17, following some internal disagreements in GX. Within a month, GX was pushed back to Xavax city, and instead of a last stand for Xavax city a la First Oligarch, Selenia's group headed north and made a deal with Sirion to take over Oligarch City for a new realm, Redhaven.

Is the realm I founded, Minas Nova still around?
I remember naming it
Minas Nova fell a couple of months ago. Discord is probably the best place to get the blow by blow, but there is an accounting here:http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Perleone#War_of_Deklan.27s_Folly

Development / Re: Rebalancing regions
« on: May 21, 2019, 12:09:31 PM »

Agree that there are indeed some regions that would be well served with a rebalance of some sort. These are roughly the 15 trashiest regions you can get on EC. For a lot of the other regions, there is a fair balance between the food/gold value. Rurals may be gold poor, but food rich- with notable exceptions like Skezard and Zamor. Mountains offer the option to build palisades, and a lot are pretty rich- exceptions being Bursa, Ar Raqqah, and Bastad. Cities, gold rich, food poor. Woodlands seems pretty middle of the road. Badlands on EC, on the other hand, seem to catch the worst of all worlds, with the notable exception of Perdan Mines.

I guess the balancing for the OI regions and other regions like Dayr happened during Bad Tidings. However, particularly in the current state of the game, this creates a situation where those regions are simply not attractive anymore, and consequently don't generate much conflict and player interactions. Short of these regions not existing or changes to the map, it would be great if the gold/food values could be tweaked for some of them on a case by case basis. The OI badlands, for instance, are in a volcanic weather area. Why not a multiplier for the food production here? They should be highly fertile. This makes that area suddenly valuable, and a realm there an important player. I know that hinterlands will take away from the need to abandon such regions to rogues in order to meet density limits. However, a rebalance will make these sorts of choices far more interesting, and in my view create more interaction.

That last fame point nobody has earned bugs me. And I have a guess. Is it for wounding your mentor in battle?

The last fame point is obviously called the "BattleMaster" fame point. Last unit standing in a battle over 10k cs on each side?  ;D

Lefanis, let's quit our jobs and become Fame Detectives. We are rockin' it!

Hehehe 8)

Perhaps a combination of the two factors then? "10th member has joined the order" and something else. I am tempted to say 10,000 followers? Nice round number, pretty attainable with some effort, although only readily available to a priest- I don't have access to a religion spread off the bat... Perhaps the second factor might be being a major faith in more than 5 regions?

Guilds get a "significant event" message when they make it to 10 members. Perhaps 10 noble followers is the threshold for Prophet fame?

Hmmm... This is a wildly random guess, but do you get a point when you get kicked out of lordship due to revolt? Those unknown fame points are nagging at me...
