Helpline / Re: Special Forces

SF and the 17 year old quest to find the elusive centre bypassing walls... probably one of the biggest red herrings in the game... There are only two "special" abilities that are actually observable, for which we have some data and actual proof. Ranged SF, pretty much jacked up MI- R5 being the best example, and just regular melee SF, which looks like infantry with a RNG modifier to sometimes provide extra hits. There is no magical unit that scales walls, or other insane stuff. If there was, we would have battle reports adorning the wiki about it.

I don't suppose you happen to have any insight or records into the most effective means of engaging daimonic units in battle? I'm sure someone somewhere has notes.

Now my memory is rusty, and the battle reports I remember are nearly 10 years old from the Third and Fourth Invasions. I never had a chance to test it out, but I suspect that heavy cavalry opening might be the way to go, with a couple of fodder infantry units protecting archers. Daimons are range 5, and cavalry have a bonus defense against arrows. Maximize your cav, engage in close combat asap, and cross your fingers that your charge is good enough. You'll lose the cavalry, but do a good deal of damage while you're at it.

I don't think I have ever clicked on a name from the Legendary Hero burial message and seen a character with less than 100 honor. That makes me think it is something that gets accumulated.

I would think that legendary part of the hero has more to do with prestige than honor- nothing to do with the time spent as hero, or accumulation or battles. Just the pure H/P values. My own legendary hero had 111 honor and 27 prestige at death. So I am going to say that to be a legendary hero you need to have 25 prestige. Perhaps 100 honor as well.

Public Execution
message to everyone on East Continent - 1 day, 1 hour, 23 minutes ago
Messengers bring news of a public execution in Al Arab earlier today.
Sigurd Erickson, a noble of Alara, had been banned from The Noble Constitutional Monarchy of Perleone as a traitor on 7th August, 2018. When he was later imprisoned, Prime Minister Mary Anne de la Fere Bluelake of The Noble Constitutional Monarchy of Perleone decided to make him pay for his treason.

Feature Requests / Approved: Customisable Duchy Shares
« on: October 15, 2018, 04:45:52 PM »
Name: Customisable Duchy Shares

Summary:
Allow Dukes to set individual duchy shares per region.

Details:
Currently, Dukes can set a global tax rate for all regions inside their duchy. However, the proposed feature would give them the option of customizing it for every region in their duchy, based on their preferences.

Benefits:
Increases lord-duke dialogue- characters can punish or reward lords, or set specific taxes based on the regions total earnings- thereby improving the duchy game and promoting discussion between a duke and his lords.

Improves politics- Dukes can now slug it out to lure individual lords over by promising them a lower tax rate. This creates conflict and can cause wars.

Downsides:
None that I can think of. Disgruntled lords, perhaps?

Vix really needs to vote to become Tyranny and chose Archibald as it's absolute monarch.
Might be difficult, Archibald just brought his secret cookie stash to Perleone  ;D

Correct, about the starving region and rejoice message. But it's not only selling to, but buying for, and brokering trade for.

You've earned 3 months of Goodies as a result. Congratulations on being the first player in over a decade(?) to successfully guess a fame point.

Hurray!! ;D

I am curious what happed to mentor fame though, now that the class no longer exists!

And yet no one has successfully guessed the details of what achieves it...

Sell food to a starving region. If you get the "locals rejoice as the food comes in" message, you get the fame. Might need to sell under a certain price.

It's just that BM design does not fit it's current playerbase. Especially on BT. And we're all screwed by this but I am certain that taking away from people is only going to make this worse.

This. Currently, BT is slowly stagnating away, a shell of what it was- in my view for a variety of reasons, including the blighted map and lower playerbase- desperately in need of fixing somehow. PvP wars aren't likely to happen for IRL years, if the remaining player base sticks around through the exercise of masochism that is grinding against the "density" monsters and dead- both on BT and Dwilight.

In this case, many dozens of players thus went through the trouble of collecting these scrolls, and created the most significant event that has been seen in months on the continent- since this density invasion began at least. Again, players- not manual intervention through portals, making it that much more important- and yes, the effects were devastating, and the fact that 8-9 advies did the castings can be debated- however this was precisely what was envisioned with the scrolls - I distinctly recall them being referred to as mechanisms to have player controlled invasions.

Instead of recognising these things, both on discord and the forum, the players involved were accused of ooc coordination, exploitation and bug abuse. I am not even going to bother with the coordination BS, but since I heard the bug abuse come up multiple times- and apparently the bug is advies using scrolls- How can there be bug abuse when no one knows this is a bug? How can it be bug abuse when one of the game's chief devs himself doesn't agree it was a bug? Meanwhile, these allegations get thrown around freely and flippantly. I thought that part of the social contract is not to publicly accuse anyone of cheating and abuses?

The underlying problem here is that BT and Dwilight are now nothing more than grinds against monster/undead hordes. I somehow don't think this is part of Tom's vision for the game either- and yes, perhaps that is a symptom of the declining player base, who are all desperately trying to make do in these circumstances. Instead of throwing accusations at folks playing a game, it would be nice if there was a proper discussion on how to fix the game in a way that brings people to it instead of driving them away.

Based on the many discussions on discord, people are not short on ideas on how to do this- I personally think bringing back a resettable SI is the best thing that can happen short term. However, what has happened to BT and Dwi cannot be ignored either- and I think there needs to be an open discussion with the players at large to figure out what we can do together for these two worlds, and what players would be happy to see happen to this islands to make them fun again.

Plus the nobles of those realms were the ones who gave scrolls to their own adventurers. Each adventurer i saw had a noble in that realm. They were just an extension of the noble.

Not true.

Feature Requests / Under Debate: Enable bounties for Scroll of Accident
« on: August 25, 2018, 10:33:28 AM »
Name: Enable bounties for Scroll of Accident

Summary:
Bounties are currently gainable in three ways- seriously wounding someone on the battlefield, or to an infiltrator that successfully seriously wounds a character, or through a duel. I would like to propose an additional way, using the scroll of accident- I would have assumed this was already the case.

Details:
The spellcaster that successfully uses the scroll of accident on a character with a bounty, seriously wounding them, gains the bounty on their head- It makes sense that the character that wounds them gain the bounty from the person that put it up.

Benefits:
  • Increases the incentive to post bounties
  • Congruence with other parts of the game- dealing serious wounds grants bounties in battles, duels, and through assassinations
  • Gives the caster an incentive to target high value targets
  • Creates a market for scrolls of accident

Downsides:
It creates a market for scrolls of accident- Both a benefit and a downside IMO. However, I think they are rare enough to prevent abuse.

I'm 80% sure that the Lord of the region an adventurer belongs to does get notified if he's executed.

Yes, somebody does for sure-

Commoner Executed   (1 hour, 50 minutes ago)
personal message
A commoner, Alexandre, working on your grounds was executed by the judge of Kingdom of Alara. While just a lowly peasant, he still belonged to you. You should probably demand payment for your loss.

I take the point about it not being reported internationally. However, if you have an advy from your realm repairing an item for you and then next minute he disappears, you are looking for some payback for the lost item- and if there is a judge to blame, why, that sounds like it could generate an incident! In most cases, advies work more with the nobles in their realm than the lord of the region (I presume this is the region they spawn in?). So a realm wide notice would be nice.

Wait, wait, wait. Let me get this straight.

Every time some random commoner gets himself hanged for some random crime, you want that to be international news?!

That's preposterous. Why, there would be bulletins going out every hour!

 ;D

Well, perhaps their noble overlords in their realm should be informed for the deaths of the adventurous sorts, so they may demand compensation! They do get updates when they show up in the realm, after all.
