Evil cackles echo from the Abyss. ;-)

Thank you!

As the conflict between the Lich King's Undead Dominion and other realms in the Colonies develops, I was hoping to have priests of rival religions like Zane and the Abyss waging a parallel religious battle with 'ol Lichy's followers off the battlefield.  Unfortunately, one of the priests' best tools - "badmouth realm" - isn't available because the Undead Dominion is not in the list of realms on the command's pull down list.  Is there any chance we can get the Undead Dominion added to that list so we can start waging war with him on other non-battlefield fronts?

Pyre of Plenty
message to everyone in the vicinity of Iglavik - 2 hours, 47 minutes ago
The Pyre of Plenty crackled in approval at Grob's sacrifice, consuming his black diamond, wyvern scales, two golden idols, ancient documents, and wootz.

When Raziella brought her sacrifices, there was a roar of approval. Yet as she disrespectfully tossed and threw her sacrifices into the Pyre, the fire was only satiated by the variety of her sacrifice. It seemed she had brought her whole estate with her. Dates, figs, bananas, mangos, coconuts, papayas, coffee beans, tobacco leaves, ikrif leaves, corn, rice, sugarcane, and yams at first. Yet if you thought she was done, next were sacrificed a basketful of tilapia, three ducks, a goat, two large turkeys, four iguanas, seven chameleons, a giraffe, and twelve monkeys. All living when sacrificed except the giraffe. And then priceless emu oil! Yet still was she not done. Cookies baked the night before and freshly-made pancakes were sacrificed too. And for the final sacrifice, her estate's best cook, an elderly woman. The Pyre of Plenty grew and grew.
Bonfire of Bounty

message to everyone in the vicinity of Narrowdep - 2 hours, 35 minutes ago
The Forbidden Mallet was dropped into the Bonfire of Bounty by Altard and the flames seemed to sing a delightful melody while consuming the forbidden hammer. As Oak tossed his first 30 gold, then 60 gold more, the flames sparkled as they consumed his sacrifice.

Grob mimed sacrificing the same items he had sacrificed in Narrowdep, but he didn't possess any of the actual items. The Voice in the light-column growled. (OOC: My apologies for the slow response)

Oak joined Grob in mime-sacrificing, preparing to contribute 100 more gold to make sparkly flames while he only possessed 14 gold coins. Flicking those 14 golden coins into the fire, he proceeded to act as if he were flicking another 86 coins he didn't possess into the fire. The Bonfire of Bounty flared at Oak, knocking him backwards.

Zane climbs down out of his palanquin and watches the lesser folk tossing their meager belongings into the Pyre.  He glances over at the gargoyle statue, "You too, Mortimer?  How very ... plebeian of you."

Zane sighs dramatically.  "Oh very well.  I suppose you're right.  Mistress Blüdyknückles!"

A tall, cadaverously-thin woman in a severe black dress steps forward from Zane's entourage.  She bows silently, awaiting her lord's command.

"Have the eunuchs take my beloved palanquin into the Pyre."

The four huge albino eunuchs holding the palanquin's poles all look at each other.  They likely would have objected had Zane not had their tongues removed years ago.  After their moment of mutual dismay they bow their heads in resigned acceptance, knowing the agony inflicted upon them for disobedience would last far longer than whatever effect the Pyre would have on them.  So for the last time they lift the now-empty palanquin and march forward into the Pyre.

Seven Days Remain - Team Iglavik or Team Narrowdep?
message to everyone on Colonies - 1 hour, 36 minutes ago
Across the Colonies two Voices speak, so close in sequence to one another that it sounds like one voice echoing, "Seven days remain to sacrifice the Best that you own in," the last word is garbled.

Some claim they heard 'Iglavik' while others claim they heard 'Narrowdep'. Furious debate upon what was said arises.

Several enterprising peasants put their heads together and decide the gargoyle statue itself would make a fine sacrifice in the Pyre.  They gather up a mob of strapping young farmers and laborers and attempt to drag the statue into the Pyre.  After several hours of sweating and straining they have been unable to move the statue at all - much to the amusement of the onlookers.

Unwilling to be bested by a chunk of granite, several of the farmhands run off to their farms to retrieve their draft teams and some harnesses.  After collecting an impressive array of horse and oxen power, the would-be sacrificers tried once again.  Oxen lowed, horses strained, peasants cursed, harnesses and ropes broke, onlookers laughed and laughed.  Exhausted and dejected, the mob shamefacedly melted back into the surrounding lands.

The statue remained.  Unmoved.

Oh, did Jitney get arrested too?  I really did mean Mortimer, since without either of them in the region as a player I couldn't see the messages. :-)

Sir Jitney, Sir Zane, greetings.

While we would enjoy hosting you in our dungeons, the experience will be considerably less pleasant for you. So leave. Now.

For Oritolon,

Altard the Adventurer was camped near the magic beam when a Voice from within announced, "Sacrifice your Best". Such was the loudness of the Voice that it echoed through The Arakir.

Mid-shrug, the Voice from within announced, "Sacrifice your Best," and fire scorched the air above Zane, singeing his hair.

Zane looks over at the stone gargoyle statue next to him, seemingly oblivious to the smoke coming off his hair.

"Mortimer, you've improved your ventriloquism.  I could have sworn I heard that coming from above me."

Zane pauses and cocks an ear toward the statue, as if listening to a voice nobody else can hear.

"Oh fine, I'll play along.  'Sacrifice your best' you say?  I seem to have left my best in the pocket of my other robe."  Zane looks around and his gaze falls on Jitney.  A thoughtful, and somewhat evil, grin slowly spreads across his face.  "Take Jitney.  He's twice the knight most realms seem to produce.  There's a reason we call him Jitney Two-Times."

Zane dope-slaps the statue on the back of the head, "Shut up Mortimer.  Get those rocks you have for brains out of the gutter."

Nobody knows where the granite statue of a gargoyle came from or how it arrived in Igalvik.  One moment it was just an empty spot next to a crossroads.  The next, a granite statue of a gargoyle was sitting there.  When Zane breezed through in his palanquin the statue appeared completely uninterested.  Unsurprising since it is a statue.   Strangely, though, when the bystanders looked back at the statue after looking away something seems subtly different.  As if the statue moved when nobody was looking.

When the light spoke of sacrificing our best, everyone looked up - if for no other reason than to mock Zane and his smouldering hair.  When the noise died down, however, someone noticed the gargoyle was now holding a matte black arrow in its hand.  The arrow was held up in gesture of giving or offering of a sort, although a peasant who tried to grab it was unable to pull it from the statue's fist.  As night fell the gargoyle nearly disappeared in the darkness, silhouetted by the burning light, its stone arm outstretched.

Pyre of Plenty
message to everyone in the vicinity of Iglavik - 3 days, 20 hours, 59 minutes ago
Several peasants had attempted to free the arrow from the statue's grasp. All had failed.

Another group was trying when fire flared from the column of light towards them. They scattered away just in time.

As the flames reached the arrow, the statue's hand was activated by the heat and released the arrow. The tendril of fire extending from the beam of light followed the arrow's fall to the ground, where it consumed the arrow.

The fire-tendril withdrew back into the column of light upon the Dark Arrow's destruction, yet the ground remained afire and kept burning without any fuel source. The Pyre of Plenty had begun, ready for sacrifices to be added to its flames.

The Voice then spoke, "Zane does not own Jitney."

Smiling as he walks to the bonfire of Narrowdep, Oak proceeds to offer Brilliant Aegir to the bonfire.

Both Zane and Mortimer were arrested by the militia at that point, so someone else will have to post the rest. :-)

"Ugh!  Dat potion tasted terrible!"  Gorawartieniup hawks and spits. He wipes his hands down his face and shudders.  "I should knowed ta never trust potions from some random traveling alchemist  ..."

Gorawarthieniup's monologue trails to a stop when he notices his surroundings.

"Wait ... where am I?"  He turns around, scanning the featureless horizon.  "Where's my damn cabin?  Where's, um, everything?!"

Gone was his beloved swamp bayou, replaced by a barren landscape lit only by the unfamiliar stars above.

And.. How is OT different? I worry it might not be "serious" enough, too many jokes and not much going on. But this is just from what read on the forums

OT is vehemently not serious.  It's about as not serious as one can get: http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Outer_Tilog_(Realm).  Most of the characters are delusional and/or criminally insane.  We have characters who believe they're skeletons, zombies, vampires, wolf-man - all the classic horror movie stereotypes.  None of them, of course, can be anything but normal human according to BM rules, but that doesn't prevent them from living under their delusions.

It's great fun, but don't come to OT if you're expecting serious roleplay.

I've played in Outer Tilog for 8 years.  I adore it.  I've paused all but one my characters multiple times, but always kept my character active in Outer Tilog.  No, it's not as active as it was in the past, but it's still the most twistedly-entertaining realm you'll ever find.

More magic in the Colonies would be great fun.  A wildcard like magic could do very nicely complimenting the quirky, rather eccentric nature of the Colonies.

I've never had a problem with the 1 turn per day, but then again, I've been playing a priest there for years so turns mean almost nothing to my play.

I'll post more once things have calmed down IRL.

Also, that unless shifts are involved, it will mostly do what you wanted it to, at least it can't do something entirely different (as with the captain example).

Don't you always have at least one shift with spontaneous magic?

When a spell discharges into something else - like it did for Zuno with the mind bullets - is that basically shifting points from the primary discharge into the secondary?  As in a 2-2-2 with 3 shifts could produce two 1-1-1 discharges?

(hello, OT?)

Curses!  you've discovered my nefarious plan! ;-)

Seriously, though.  I was considering playing a Three Stooges-type fool who does everything spontaneously, but I think he'd be too deadly to himself and everyone around him.

Zuno brushed the splinters from the shattered wall off his arm and out of his hair.  Well that was certainly interesting, he thought. I definitely need to figure out how I did that ... it'd be plenty useful.

Exhausted by his activities and ensconced in a relatively comfortable and secluded place, Zuno curled up to get some rest and recover from a rather eventful day.

Astalos stopped trying to healing himself after the third try. He had healed enough to walk back to his inn. He casted spontaneous magic (Move/Body - 3-1-3) (3 shifts) hoping he can move a bit quicker.

(shifted to 1-4-2)

The entire street around Astalos suddenly became incredibly slippery - as if he were walking on ice, or a banana peel.  He suddenly found himself laying on his back, seeing stars after his head hit the cobblestones.

Zuno felt his control slipping away just when things were getting interesting. That damn tomcat was a stubborn one. Strong-willed. Fine, let him go. This voyeurism was awkward at best, regardless.

Zuno blinks and sits up in the hayloft, shaking his head. It always takes a moment for him to recover when he's been controlling another mind. Besides, he needs some quiet time to think. In the past he made sure to only use his powers to fleece helpless commoners, so he'd never needed to worry about wards or magical protections. This situation, though, was a dog of an entirely different color. First things first - devise some sort of protection for himself. Zuno concentrated and focused his mind inward, trying to build a mental wall between his mind and the rest of the world - spontaneous magic (Protect/Mind - 4-2-4) (11 shifts).

OOC: 11 shifts?  It's a protection spell, how could that possibly end badly? ;-)
