Zuno shoves back from the table, disgusted with himself. Glowering at the now-gloating merchant, he stomps out of the common room and into the fading late-afternoon sun. He should have paid for a room before he started gambling. Now he has no place to sleep tonight.

Zuno wanders aimlessly through the back streets and alleys around the battered harbor, At one point a particularly brazen rat stands in the alley, chewing on some moldy bit of trash. Zuno's anger and frustration suddenly has a focus and a target. Fury pours out of him, directed at the unknowing creature. spontaneous magic (Harm/Death - 4/1/1) (with 2 shifts)

Now I'm getting an exception:

ErrorException [ Notice ]: Undefined index: XPgains
APPPATH/controllers/action.php [ 77 ]
77  foreach ($CanCast['XPgains'] as $element=>$gains) {

Yeah. Energy didn't change. EXP however increases 1 per hour. Will we be getting more EXP later or will it always be 1 per hour?

I'm pretty sure XP is 1/hour + whatever XP you earn from casting.

Of course right after I posted this my energy increased.

Interesting, I stacked two spells in the parser that would have required 2 energy each and it said "not enough energy (would require 2 - you have 1.42)"  1.42 is what I would have had left had I cast the spells: 5.42 total - 2 - 2 = 1.42.

yes, you should. Ok, please try again, I've now added more info, it tells you what the parser thinks you have in energy.

"not enough energy (would require 3 - you have 2.42)"

According to my character page, I have 5.42 energy.

Is anyone else actually accruing energy?  I see my free XP increasing, but my energy hasn't changed in more than 18 hours.

Ok, try again, it should now tell you how much energy it thinks you would need.

It is now telling me that I need 4 energy: "not enough energy (would require 4)"  However, my character still shows as having 4.34 energy, so shouldn't he be able to cast it?

can you give me the exact text you feed into the parser (PM if you want), please ?

Nothing more than:
Code: [Select]
[#4|Mental nudge]

You can check the spell details in your spell list, and it should tell you there how much energy and concentration casting that spell would cost you at your current values.

The spell details say 4 energy (the spell is [#4|Mental nudge], control/mind/2/2/1, [4|5b1cd6049b649431c3aed23004d93a7f0ecfb2e8]), my character's current power is still at 4.34 (it's been more than 6 hours, shouldn't it have gone up by now?), and the verify still says I don't have enough energy.

I think I'm either not understanding the energy costs, or there's a bug somewhere.

My character currently shows as having 4.32 energy and 20 concentration.  I went into the parser and tried to cast a control/mind power level 4 spell and it's telling me he doesn't have enough energy.  His skill is control 5, mind 1, so the energy cost should be 4 (power level)/1 (base skill) = 4, right?  So why is the parser saying he doesn't have enough energy?

"Please...Call me Garath."

Zuno looked up from the table as the voice floated from the corner table.  Something about that voice attracted his attention.  It certainly carried well.  Then Zuno spotted the barmaid.  Damn, he was hoping to use whatever winnings he could fleece from his table-mates here to entice her into some more entertaining activity later.

"... I call!"

Suddenly Zuno's attention in drawn back to the table.  "Huh?  What?"

"Pay attention, boy!" the merchant snaps, "I said 'I call,' now show me yer cards."

Zuno briefly ponders several rash courses of action before realizing he was already in too deep and should probably quit before it got any worse.  He throws down his cards in disgust.  "Fine.  You win."

Zuno sighed as he gazed at his hand.  Not particularly promising.  The cards on the table weren't bad, but the cards he held were no help.  He really didn't want to back out now.  He had too much on the table and there was only one player left - a sour-faced merchant who was quite a ways into his cups.  Besides, how else was he going to buy his way out of this pathetic little burg?  If only that idiot sea captain hadn't lost his ship ... well, what's done is done.

A furtive glance around the common room revealed a small spider hanging from a lamp behind the merchant.  A quick [#231|Vermin Spy] gives him a glimpse of the man's cards - a castle and two knaves - not strong, but marginally stronger than Zuno's.  Mustering up all the brazenness left in him, Zuno smiles confidently.

"All in.  Put up or walk away, my friend," while sending a little [#4|Mental nudge]:"Fold"

Completing these actions would result in the following changes:
2.80 concentration expended
6.00 energy expended
2 XP in Perceive gained
6 XP in Mind gained
0 XP in Control gained

I am looking for feedback, especially when you try getting into actual spellcasting - just how much is possible, too much too little? Does the parser work for you, etc?

Well, I see XP accruing and I can verify in the parser, but I don't see where to actually commit the action and get the verification code. Am I missing something obvious?

I'd like to make a test run of the system, incomplete as it is. ... Give me some feedback and questions/thoughts, and then we'll start in a day or two.

Three words: bring it on!  :)

I'll happily test the heck out of it.  Might even leave the town standing afterword.
