I think hitting to soldiers training is too harsh atm. And it should not go under what your unit had when they were recruited.

Actually, it's impossible for the game to tell this.

Quote
Even when Darka is at war, but sure we had long refit times... so TMP will kick in... it REALLY hits to training atm.

It will make RC´s which have good training almost useless. Better recruit already sucky cheap units.

I hope it would be tweaked a bit less harsh when it effects training, rather hit morale?

Hitting morale would give you even bigger problems on long marches, trust me.

Frankly, Tom has been trying for years to make it hard for people to run long-distance wars.  If this is what it takes to get people to fight closer to home, rather than insisting that they ought to be able to fight on the other side of the continent, because that's what we did in 2002 and that was the Golden Age, then so be it.

Finally, once this hits stable, I think you should actually watch the effects before you declare that everything is doom and there's no hope for the game anymore.

I seem to remember the message that appears for OOC inactivity and IC inactivity (prison or wounded) is the same. It can be confusing; I tend to have OOC reactions to OOC events. The text could be changed.

It's not identical, but it is pretty similar...and that's because from an IC perspective, the situations are nearly identical.

TMP has also been changed since it was first implemented: now, rather than hitting region stats directly, it simply makes your acceptable tax rate lower. It also makes your troops' training decay.

This should result in your being less able to fight, while still making it highly unlikely that TMP alone can kill you.

Only 58! You'll be fine.  It took Gregor a little under 7 days to recover his last simple wound... that was a boring 7 days where I thought he might lose being Duke from inactivity (PS - What the hell is that about? I logged in as him jeesh).

What does logging in have to do with it?

He's not able to perform his duties; therefore, he can be removed from his office.

BM General Discussion / Re: Letters as roleplays

Actually, when this issue came up on the dev list about two years ago, Tom gave the go-ahead to remove the signature from roleplay messages, which I never got around to doing.

I have now done so.

It's not a huge thing, but it should at least help to show that Roleplay messages are not letters.

I've got no particular preference.  If it looks like the ARS is a more balanced system than GP/BP, then I'm perfectly happy to go with it.

This is on stable, and has been for a while.  I've got a message marked on my EC character already, in fact.

I've known people who have insisted on sending everything tagged as "roleplay", because they are always roleplaying their character.

I had a General once who did that.

And then yelled at us for not following orders.  Because we didn't notice that they were orders.

Does being 'dying' mean that my character will eventually die? The text that I read when I play that character makes it sound like there's still hope, but how much hope is there? And how long will it be before my character finally goes to the great beyond?

What continent are you on?  And what class are you?

If I remember how I coded it correctly, what it means is you're mortally wounded, and you have one last chance to recover or die from your wounds at the following turn.

However, that only applies where mortality is enabled—which it isn't, right now.  So basically, it means you're as wounded as it's possible to be, and it will take you a long time to recover.

I believe heroes and adventurers, when they die, always go straight to "dead" status, so you shouldn't be seeing it there.

Um...and I thought I switched it so that when mortality is not enabled, "dying" status would show up instead as just more "critically wounded." I could be misremembering that, though.

No new Game Mechanics. No new Rules. No new results. Just lower the price a little and increase the chance of success.

He wants you to tweak a couple of numbers, so that more people can do what only a few older players are able to do now .

No, he wants to be able to do it in rogue regions.

The Roleplay message tag is specifically intended to be used only on narrative roleplays: that is, describing the actions of your character.  They are not meant to be letters sent between characters.

I believe in those cases the game helps you out by allowing you to get priests from the start, not forcing you to work as the sole priest until you can upgrade the temple to level 4. For all other temples, they start at level 1, assuming the level 4 thing is true.

It's not.

Priests have always required a level 3 (small) temple.

What you want is exactly the same thing as a colony: a realm formed out of a region that is not adjacent to the parent realm.

The only difference in what you want is that you don't want it to be related to the parent realm.

That is a RP difference, not a mechanics one.

What you are requesting has been denied multiple times by Tom, and clear reasons have been given for it, multiple times, politely.  Just because it's your pet feature request doesn't make it special and something that we have to implement or the game will come crashing down around our ears.

i never said that ooc connection was the only way to organize colony.

3-4 men without needing to form colony, but creating completely new realm has nothing to do with isolating yourself.

as i mentioned several times, main difference is that colony, if properly played, retains firm vassal relation for very long period of time, and can hardly create new political dynamics.

If you want to create a colony that has no tie to the mother realm (which is exactly what you are describing)...

Then find a way to do it with a CTO.

The features requested here are not going to be added.  Period.  We have explained the reasons over and over.  They simply do not fit into the vision for what BattleMaster is supposed to be.

If you don't like it, then I'm afraid there's nothing I can do for you.

Have you ever tried being one of those leaders yourself? If you don't like following, stand up and lead - there's no monopoly on leadership. I don't understand why the existing colony mechanics are not good enough. You want a colony? Then become a leader and make it happen. It's incredibly rewarding if you can pull it off, because it isn't easy. That doesn't mean that it's impossible though.

From a roleplaying perspective, Battlemaster is also a team game; as you rightly pointed out, nothing exists in a vacuum. Roleplaying in BM is an act of collaborative storytelling, which means that you *still* have to work with other players in order to accomplish anything meaningful, unless of course you're one of those types that likes to write small novels about what his character is doing independently of any other characters. It seems to me that you are saying that you want all the success of accomplishing things and creating roleplays without allowing other players to participate in the act of creation. That just isn't what BM is about (in my opinion).

Smart man.  I give him a cookie ;)
