Most of the family homes in Storms Keep, were manually moved to Storms Keep

I can say with some certainty that this is simply false.

Wait...I thought this was actually an old game?!

No, it's being actively developed.

That would be very cool.  Wouldn't that meet Wikipedia's notability requirements?

Not if it's a book the deletionist Wiki-admin has never heard of.

Or he decides there need to be three more references before it can be accepted.

Or...well, he doesn't like the article and just wants it deleted.

DF runs very well on a 3 GHz quad-core Opteron. I wish it would actually *use* multiple cores, though. Then you'd see the game really fly.

Yeah, once Toady eventually implements proper multithreading, I'll probably have to limit my framerate to keep it from going way too fast to keep up with  ::)

I have a very simple method for maximizing framerate:

I run the game on an 8-core 2.8GHz Mac Pro with 12GB of RAM  ;D

Haha, showoff!  How much did that cost, especially since it's a mac? :o

Didn't cost me anything.  It's the computer I inherited from my predecessor at work ;)

Interested in this because I'd like to know which channels to use when we want to expand the playerbase again.

I saw your sig on Slashdot.

"Back in beta (too many new features): BattleMaster"

The lure of something in beta with loads of new features was extremely compelling :-)

Development / Re: Bug - Read Messages from Last [x] days
« on: March 17, 2011, 02:58:22 AM »
With this new feature, I only appear to get about 1 days worth of messages. For example if I select to see the last 7 days of messages, I get no messages that are newer then 6 days ago. I'm using chrome as my browser.

Whoops.  Typed a = when I meant <=.

Fixed in rev. 5331.

And once Tom gets the bugtracker properly linked to the Core, then we can yell at people for not using it ;)

Dwilight / Re: Dwilight IC and OOC updates and news!

Wow. You guys just turned this into a real Caerwyn-Averoth hate thread. This is one of the things I hate about BattleMaster.. when things go the wrong way, some people just assume too much and call other players liars. I didn't "fabricate" the war yet I am one of the people who pushed for it and knew a lot of key information being passed around.

Well, perhaps they're upset that their characters are being lied about, hmm?

Whether or not you're the one doing the lying, it seems pretty clear to me, from everything I know IC and OOC, that at least a big chunk of Caerwyn's justification for the war was false.  People tend to get upset when that sort of thing happens.  I know I'd be upset if, for instance, Morek Empire had declared war on Pian en Luries, insisting that we had planned to attack them next.

As for Averoth, if they're being hated on, then I think they're getting what they deserve for supporting the most hated realm on Dwilight, and having such close ties with the so-called "Saxons".  I don't know about anyone else, but I have found the VanimedlĂ© player to be one of the more annoying I have encountered in my time here, and I've never even been in the same realm with any of his characters.  Part of it is his penchant for sending long roleplays to the ruler channel, and another part is his insistence on using Old English for so many important things in Thulsoma and Hredmonath, even after he was told many times that it was unacceptably exclusive of those who do not know Old English.

This kinda thing happens all the time on all the continents and I believe I've seen far too much information to not go to war. We all saw the first Brotherhood of Astrocracies which clearly allied against the "pagans" aka the free realms.

Except that the intent was never anything of the kind. In fact, it was more or less to have SA band together to defend against a direct threat to the faith—which is exactly what you have given them.

This is unbiased OOC knowledge, by the way.

Madina is a "free-realm" and I love how everyone underestimates them.

Yeeeaaahhh....I don't think it's so much underestimating as seeing exactly how pathetic they've become.  They can't hold onto their own regions, and they're going to send an army what, a week and a half's travel to the north?

If Madina even manages to fight in any important battles, I'll be surprised.

BM General Discussion / Re: Roleplaying
« on: March 16, 2011, 05:40:27 PM »
I would like to state, for the record, that I absolutely hate Tom's official position on this. I think it's a terrible offense to people who truly enjoy and respect good roleplay, and I wish with all my heart that it weren't so.

But I also agree, with all my heart, that it has to be.

Personally, I would never do such a thing, and I never tolerate it in realms where I have influence.  If I roleplayed my ruler character thinking something, and someone else in the realm responded to it as if it were spoken, I would have my pet Judge immediately start an investigation of that person for witchcraft and consorting with demons.

But too much of the playerbase of BattleMaster neither understands nor cares about the rules of RP.  Even leaving aside the ones who know the rules perfectly well, and gleefully break them simply to gain a benefit for their own characters, there are far too many people who join BM purely for the strategy aspects.  Who don't even really understand that there is a difference between IC and OOC knowledge.

Is that a bad thing, from a roleplay and atmosphere standpoint? Absolutely.  But it's also the reality we're dealing with, and one we cannot change, no matter how much we'd like to. At least not without reducing BattleMaster's playerbase from just under 1000 to just under 100.

It was more an epitaph,

...you mean epithet?

Would be cool if every player could make a banner for their family that was very customizable, but rigid at the same time.

That is under development also, though not by me.

Development / Re: Balance of features and functionality
« on: March 15, 2011, 04:09:22 PM »
You can easily fix that without automated messages or other hoo-haa. Encourage the people in your realm to keep an eye open for newcomers, and greet them when they see a new arrival. The new player will (hopefully) feel welcomed and encouraged to interact, and the realm as a whole gains another noble. Everybody wins, and the devs haven't even lifted a finger.

We also need to make sure it is painfully clear on the "join the game" pages that you should not expect a response within a few minutes, and that that is not the type of game BattleMaster is.

We just send the save to each other, so everyone can use their own graphic pack right? That shouldn't be a problem.

Some graphic packs have particular requirements as far as the raws go.  Ironhand, for instance, adds in llamas.

I've been using Ironhand, too, and I think I like its latest iteration better than the current Mayday graphic pack.

If I do end up being the starter, I think I can twiddle the raws some to ensure that they will work with Mayday, Ironhand, or (naturally) plain ASCII.  A least-common-denominator raw set, if you will, so that all we'll have to do is change the settings in the init.txt file to switch smoothly between graphics packs.

I can handle ASCII if I have to, but I very, very much prefer a good graphics pack.  This is why another of my side projects (back-burnered due to bugs in DF) is a client for dfterm2 that lets you use a graphics pack...
