Is normally the perception of which they are explained, for example:

Ingame Message:
You XXXX Ruler of X i demand you to move your troops back or face war!

Newspaper:
ZZZZ From Z demanded XXXX >From X to withdraw his troops from their borders, this tension could escalate into a war quickly.

Also, it should be added that newspapers are often propaganda media.
Someone should not take everything as real what is written there.

Hasn't all letters already sent IG happened IG? Whats the difference of a letter sent 2 days ago by a ruler and a letter sent 1,5 day ago by anyone?

Not here to make a scene, just understand the difference since it caused quite some drama the last time we went through this :)

The difference between the messages is the ruler's authority in external affairs.
Everything that the ruler sends to the ruler channel, unless specified, is expected and intended to be known by the other rulers, and thus their realms.

So, the newspaper editor can expect that the sending ruler's message has been forwarded by the receiving ruler, to his council or even the entire realm.
If the receiving ruler hasn't, well then it's not the problem of the newspaper editor, it's not a sensitive information, as the sending ruler wanted that everyone knows.

I do believe I have seen some of them, though hardly read them.

On a completely different topic, whats the difference between the newspaper + forum and posting IG letters directly on the forum?

Newspapers contain news which have already happened IG/IC.

To be fairly honest, only 2 of them has actually declared war yet, while the others seems to be simply there by chance.

Go read the newspapers first! ;)

In case Ecthelion does not forward my letters. ;)

More like using the game mechanics to your advantage. It's low form, but legal within the game rules.

What was that? Any hard facts on that?

And I'm dead serious, and I know that Tom will agree with me completely: If you do not trust the dev team to be impartial, regardless of what we say, then you cannot hope to play this game without constantly looking over your shoulder. So you may as well leave.

No way. I have to be here in 6 months to ask you for that data  8)
And by failure management I don't mean that this is already a failure.
I mean more your current methods of communication with the complaining party.
Imagine what happens if in 6 months the other party is proven right.
That's why I'd ask you to be more transparent and less oppressive and aggressive in here and leave room for possible mistakes on your side. Just as you did in your reply to me now. But this could be done in more points in this discussion.

And this is why there's no possible way we can win: Because no matter how public we make the decisions, no matter how obviously open and random we make it, there will still be people who make bull!@#$ passive-aggressive non-accusations like this:

If you do not believe that the decisions on which regions to glaciate were made entirely without reference to political affiliation or where our characters were located, despite dozens of assurances of this from the dev team, you may as well leave the game now, because you'll never, ever be able to trust anything we do.

Anaris. Let's say this very straight.
The polls were not IC, they were on the forum.
On the forum are only active players.
So only active players voted.
Which again means that it hits active realms where these players play.
Which again makes it not really random.
If you can accept that this is why now so many players are against what happened, then you could also find a way for a solution to ease them.

I repeat, it is your current lacking failure management that does not let this discussion shut down.
I see players coming up with statistical data which make very valid points for what they say and the admins lock or delete threads.
Is that your plan to end this? Seriously?
Either the players will be heard or they will be continued to be shut down till they leave.

And then you will have your right and Bm again many less players.
I mean seriously, did I just read from the dev team the indirect soltuion to just leave the game?!
Is that what you want? Is that how you treat people who don't agree with you?

Maybe you should start accepting some input here and try to come up with some hard facts like has been asked for.
That would be more constructive.
But maybe now this thread will get locked or even deleted as well.

Wait... wait a minute. I just saw this... you discounted player satisfaction and activity? Those aren't even IC political considerations... those are OOC points that are very, very important to the whole success of this event. So you think to yourself, "Oh, these highly populated realms are intensely active and the players here see these as the best realms they've ever been a part of. No, I won't take that into consideration. I'm sure ruining the best the game has to offer won't hurt anything in the long run."

As I have already stated in a lost, deleted or locked thread...almost all successful and winning realms/parties got (randomly of course) hit because they are the only ones who can fulfill the migration role. Only the best players don't quit and carry on during such an event. Be proud to be chosen and share the wealth now with the lesser ones.

I know this is not the truth, but I prefer it. It makes me playing on. :P

Being affected in almost all realms I can mention account deletions and migration as main event.
Especially players with only chars in one realm (2 char in one realm families are here very endangered).

The tricky thing though is if an account gets deleted it might hit also realms who are not affected as a players could have had only 1 or 2 chars out of 3 or 4 affected.

Indirik, in all calmness, I believe that most players do not argue what you say and especially not those who are not of the forum.

I think - from what I hear right and left - that most players are actually unhappy about the solution at all because of instead one realm, many realms of them are affected and would just hear from the dev team an honest "ok that didn't work out as we wanted, we should just have done better something else".

While I agree on the other hand that it might be too early to have final results on how this will end, I believe the dev team should develop as well a failure management and accept that possibly some decisions may have not been the best in case that at some point it will turn out that more players left due to this current decision instead of another.

Questions like from Foxglove about a count on deletions vs new accounts in these phase should be monitored and also answered.
I wonder actually that you are not doing this.
That is more important than repeating in everythread the same thing. This is exhausting for you and for the players its sounds like they are not taken seriously or listened to.
It's very important to evaluate and monitor such changes in order to improve.

I think that in general that would make many discussions here avoidable.

Sometimes it's ok to be wrong - if you are wrong, that is not decided yet, but for most, with the limited information given, it sounds like this. That is the bias of the player, but you have to take it seriously, cause without the player  there is no game. That is the dependancy here.

The decision had to be made without taking the political situation of the continent into account. Attempting to take politics into account opens the entire process up into the realm of favoritism and partiality. Do you really want the devs attempting to interpret the political state of the continent, and then deciding which realms to wipe out? I can guarantee to you that if we did, the political state of all of the islands would be quite different, and much more massively disrupted, then actually happened. And I can also guarantee that almost no one would like the outcome. And that almost everyone would be pissed off at the dev team, and no one would agree on what was done.

Politics-based GM intervention has been tried before, in the early stages of the game. The fallout from the player-base was massive, and extremely negative. It simply can't be done.

If your particular realm was harmed in this evolution, I'm sorry. You're not the only one who's realm got destroyed. (And apparently Asylon managed to rally and take Unterstrom? Go Asylon!) But imagine how much worse it would be for you if the devs came forward and said "We destroyed your realm on purpose, because we feel the game is better off without it."

I think D'Este meant that the decision itsself to do what is done now, was more focussing towards an end result and less thought out on the effects it now has.
Instead of losing one continent or one realm per player (if one island would have been closed for example), now many more players on many continents lose many more realms than only one. All continents have remained but during the changes of them, most of players already give up (as no matter where you go, there again ice and monsters hunting you).
In the end, it's a bigger GM intervention than the dev team probably would have thought in the beginning (being focussed only on the density thing, but players feel more than just being called a number, something that I personally see that should have been better communicated during this whole thing).

I think that everyone understands and agrees actions have to be taken to increase the noble density in the game. Where it goes wrong i think is that the devs try not to look at the current state of a continent before taking an action and only look at the potential end result. By this approach they underestimate the damage done during the change process.

I'm most sure that was Nosferatu... someone with a strange "N" at his name. I certainly should have saved those letters and have done an RP, 'cause I remember perfectly how Erik have laughed at the Council and made a joke about being the real conqueror of Aix. I also do not remember if he was General or King at the time, but I'm sure Erik was Judge Erik. Probably while Margrave of Trinbar.

I'm sure of it 'cause I laughed a lot of the unusual situation. I would never forget something that could embarrass my opponents in a conversation  ;D

PS: I would like to know who was the Judge of Perdan at that time, but I'm most sure that was Nosferatu, the guy who sent the letter. I also would like to see the entire timeline... when Perdan took Aix, who was King and who was General? Who was elected as Duke of Aix? Atanamir? I would like to write the RP now to offer to our ECDA.

After putting some research in it, Balkeese was Ruler, Atanamir was General and ][osferatu or Nightmare were Judge. The last position is one of both.
But seriously, I doubt why one of those Perdanese oldies should have asked Erik for help to conquer a city.  ???
Especially Nos, he barely talks with us in Perdan, so why should he have spoken with you...lol
Maybe you were drunk? ;) :D

And certainly impossible, just to say  ;)
But, you know... if someone in Perdan is in need of some tips, Erik is there to say them how to conquer a city.  8)

Seriously, I really wonder who that guy was.
I asked many times OOC Nightmare and Nosferatu, none has any idea about what you are talking about since so many months, years.
Are you sure you had that conversation with a Perdanese? I am really curious to know some day the real truth behind this, honestly.

No, you said "the real reasons will soon come out" and then you refeer as "Atanamir reasons" ending up as the real reasons that are about to come out are Atanamir's reasons which made me congratulate the skill to have all that people fighting Sirion for Atanamir's reasons.

LOL you like puzzling from different posts, do you? ;)
But I take it as compliment that you try so hard to put something in my mouth which I clearly not said.
But I can only say that what you see sent by Atanamir or any other char IC is that what counts...
