BM General Discussion / Re: New Player Experience

. . .

So, instead of doing a bunch of stuff in the game's database and teaching it how to track events, you all want to teach the game how to edit the wiki so the wiki's database can track events?

What?

Actually, I have an image for how little sense this is making to me:

Anyways, I did talk to Anaris about newspapers being moved in game on IRC, and it sounds like it's approved as a CONCEPT for them to be moved in game assuming someone is willing to do the work to add them. Which lines up nicely, because I'm going to start reworking M&F's own publications system soon, and I'm not a fan of re-inventing wheels.

In regards to database storage issues, it's not so much that you can't add things to the game, it's that you need to add them in a way that keeps them from just taking up extra space.

Say you added newspapers or books, or just in general: publications, right? How do you add them in such a way that they take up the least amount of space for the least amount of time.

That same principle applies to the game as well. Storing things in the game, will take up less space.

Let me give you an example. Say you edit the realm page of Perdan (they're still a realm, right?) with a new description. The wiki will log who edited, what they changed, and the new page, all to it's database. If you want to edit the realm description in game, the game will just track new description, and not care about the old one or log who did it.

The advantage of in-game content is also that it's IN the game. Players are more likely to interact with it, and it automatically makes it IC info.

There was a comment on reddit mentioning M&F?

It's not me that needs to approve this, that's Anaris. I was just helping to flesh this out.

I could probably work on it though, or, given I spend most of my time working on M&F, help Wimpie, once he does though.

From a technical standpoint, you'd need a page to manage marriage requests on, a database table to track them, a page to display the information on, and some rules to govern what you're allowing. It's certainly less daunting than several other systems in BM (not counting the battle system because that massacres all other pages in levels of daunt).

For instance, if you wanted, you could steal M&F's concept of relationships, which may save some implementation time since that all already works, then adapt it to how it would work in BM.

As to rules in how it would work, are you allowing anyone to marry anyone, or only male-female marriages? Can you have multiple partners in marriage, or just one? Are we allowing divorces or is it for life?

Go to your profile, then "Buddies/Ignore List", then "Edit Ignore List", and add whomever you want as appropriate.

Just throwing this out there, but back int he early days of Dwilight, I tried to gather a bunch of ideas of what the monsters actually looked like.

Only 11 entries, but, hey, ideas.

YES! So much play. 153 hours so far, not that it's a lot, but I play a LOT of games.

I recommend the Fight For Universe mod, though the recent update/DLC has made it kind of not-as-perfect.

The Civ V Vox Populi mod pack is pretty good, if you're looking for something fun and Civ-y to play. http://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/community-patch-how-to-install.528034/

As the forum admin, I have mixed feelings about letting this stay here. On one hand, I agree with the logic you used in posting it here, on the other I agree with Zakky.

There's also this whole Morek having "former grace" bit that I"m not sure of. :P

Anyways, I'll let this stay here, as it appears to be aimed at players rather than characters, and I don't think it's doing any harm. Just make sure it stays civil.

It's not as stripped of stuff as previous Civ titles were. Religions still exist for instance, and the way the game plays is a bit different as well.

The Diplomacy system is just dumb late game. It's almost impossible to keep allies, and the AI doesn't seem to realize that just because a city is (relatively) undefended, doesn't mean that it's owner doesn't still have the largest military in the game (this literally just happened to me). And these guys were the friendliest civ (that is, they were neutral on me) in the game relation wise. Stupid.

The maps got smaller too, even though cities require even more space. Not sure what the idea was there... for every civ to become a sprawling megalopolis maybe?

Clearly, there must be something wrong with you then.

In all honesty though, it's an alright Civ. It's not great, there are parts of it that annoy me, but it's an alright Civ game.

My work on the other game is either awaiting action from outside parties or requiring more time than I can dedicate in an evening and still have time for myself, so I took a look.

Rest assured, I'll be bringing up a discussion in the dev area about this, and while I can't promise it because I don't run this game, I'd expect a change on this policy soon.

Accounts that were deleted are still gone though :'(
